1 CCPCJ Resolution 1-2 The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Condemns governmental corruption within nations due to the detrimental effects it has on the people of a nation, Endorses resolution A/RES/51/59 entitled “Action Against Corruption” and its call for the collecting of information as to the corruption of nations, Promotes the United Nations Convention against corruption and its specific aim at eliminating government corruption, 1. Urges the pressing need for improvements in the area of criminal justice in reference to corrupt officials and judicial systems including: a. Trial of corrupt officials by the International Criminal Court for illegal acts including, b. Harsher punishments for corrupt officials based on punishment equal to the extent of their crime including but not limited to: i. Money laundering, ii. Taking of national resources, iii. Taking of bribes, iv. Mass murder and genocide, d. Other criminal acts which take from the wealth or security of the country, c. Purification of judicial systems through strengthening of judicial and legislative branches of country by the means of organizations such as: i. Southern Africa Development Convention, ii. Global Programme Against Corruption; 3. Calls For the establishment of an educational system in order to inform people of corruption which may be present in their government and to enable individuals in said countries to combat corruption through: a. NGOs, b. International Day Against Corruption/World Anti Corruption Day, c. Spreading of the Genocide Presentation Programme; 4. Endorses the use of transparency of nations for the purpose of discovering and eliminating corruption as well as increasing accountability in the handling of government funds; 5. Requests that the regional unions of nations establish a documentation system for the handling of resources and funds in order to prevent embezzlement and other fraudulent acts such as: a. The Organization of American States, b. The European Union, c. The African Union, 6. Decides that there is a necessity for pressure in an effort to motivate countries toward the elimination of government corruption through organization such as but not limited to: a. African Union, b. Global Programme against Corruption, c. Human Rights Commission. Philadelphia Model United Nations 2007
