Other outcomes • No difference in fever and parasite clearance times. COST EFFECTIVENESS • Cost implications for artesunate seem reasonable considering number of lives saved. • Artesunate is highly affordable and cost-effective.

Implementation • IV administration of artesunate is encouraged at doses of 2.4mg/kg at 0, 12, and 24h then 2.4mg/kg daily. • Full dose of Oral AL is given when child is able to tolerate oral medication. • Monitoring of implementation is essential. • Efforts to identify emergence of potential resistance should continue.
