Orange County Sheriff’s Department (13 miles from Conference) Monday, August 19 Depart CC: 10:00 a.m. | Depart PSAP: 12:30 p.m. Open to 40 people The Orange County Sheriff’s Department provides law enforcement services to 13 contract cities as well as the unincorporated areas of Orange County. The state of the art dispatch center features dispatch consoles and call taker positions that are staffed by a combination of 47 personnel who work as radio dispatchers and call takers. Nearly 640,000 telephone calls were received by the center in 2012 generating 229,735 calls for service. California Highway Patrol/CalTrans Traffic Management Center (14 miles from Conference) Monday, August 19 Depart CC: 6:00 p.m. | Depart PSAP: 8:00 p.m. Open to 40 people Located in Irvine, California, the Orange County Communications Center (OCCC) is one of 24 dispatch centers for the California Highway Patrol (CHP). OCCC services a population of 3,055,745 and an area of 948 square miles. OCCC dispatches for the three CHP Areas in Orange County: Westminster, Santa Ana, and Capistrano. In 2012, the OCCC answered nearly 394,000 calls. Los Angeles Police Department (28 miles from Conference) Tuesday, August 20 Depart CC: 10:00 a.m. | Depart PSAP: 1:30 p.m. Open to 40 people The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is proud of its state-of-the-art communications dispatch centers: Metropolitan and Valley. The dispatch centers are home to the LAPD’s largest division consisting of nearly 700 civilian and sworn personnel, and receives approximately four million 9-1-1 calls annually. Metro Cities Fire Communications (3 miles from Conference) Tuesday, August 20 Depart CC: 5:00 p.m. | Depart PSAP: 6:30 p.m. Open to 40 people Metro Cities Fire Authority (commonly known as Metro Net) is located in Anaheim and proudly provides fire service dispatching services for the cities of Anaheim, Brea, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach/ Sunset Beach, Newport Beach and Orange. The center serves a population of 1.2 million and covers approximately 200 square miles. The center is staffed by 22 full-time dispatchers and 8 part-time dispatchers. Its call volumes exceed 15,000 9-1-1 calls and 40,000 7-digit emergency and business line calls each month. Orange County Fire Authority (12 miles from Conference) Wednesday, August 21 Depart CC: 1:00 p.m. | Depart PSAP: 3:30 p.m. Open to 30 people The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Emergency Command Center (ECC) provides EMS, fire, and rescue 9-1-1 services to the 1.5 million people of its 24 contract cities and all unincorporated areas of Orange County. PRE-CONFERENCE COURSES APCO INSTITUTE Communications Training Officer (CTO) Course Dates: August 15 – 17 Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Communications Training Officer (CTO) 5th Edition course focuses on the development and maintenance of an agency’s one-on-one training program and provides the training necessary to foster levels of consistency for CTOs as they provide on-the-job training to new hires. Upon successful completion, CTOs can help build and maintain the CTO system while exploring important elements of effective CTO programs. Previous editions of APCO’s CTO program have been implemented in hundreds of agencies nationwide. Public Safety Building Blocks Date: August 17 Time: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for public safety communications personnel and management to better understand the “big picture” in emergency communications technology. This presentation was designed for individuals new to the public safety communications profession or professionals seeking to refresh their knowledge. Active Shooter Course Date: August 18 Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Active shooter incidents and the response to them pose several unique concerns for all facets of public safety including public safety communications. There are a multitude of issues that make responding to an active shooter incident more difficult than other armed subject calls or violent in-progress incidents. This course helps to educate telecommunicators about the many intricate issues and challenges posed by active shooter incidents and their response and the role the telecommunicator plays in each. Comprehensive Quality Course Date: August 18 Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A Comprehensive Quality Program cannot be created overnight. A program must be thought out and prior planning efforts put into the system utilizing the methods of measurement and the analysis of results achieved. A successful Quality Program will require a systematic approach. This course will provide the necessary insight so that the proper tools and methodologies can be employed to make the Quality Program a vital and useful part of your organization. NCMEC: Missing Children Seminar for Chief Executives (CEOs) Dates: August 17 & 18 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This training course is designed specifically for Chiefs, Sheriffs, 9-1-1 Directors and Clearinghouse Managers. Only applications from individuals in these roles will be accepted. Participants are expected to attend all segments of the training and complete an evaluation form.
