Aside from planting various crops, the farming households were engaged in multiple entrepreneurial activities to augment their income in the lahar areas. Among the off-farm and non-farm activities are: animal raising (carabao, hogs, goat, cattle, chicken, horse, duck, turkey); fish production (tilapia, catfish, mudfish); hired labor (“tabasero”, farm worker, baker, porter/”kargador”, housemaid, factory worker, etc.); small scale business enterprises (nata de coco, camote chips, banana chips, barbecue stick making, renting-out tractors, farm supplies retailing, vending, buy and sell, mango spraying, etc); services (teaching, carpentry, masonry, tricycle/jeepney driving, midwife, dressmaking, sweetpotato agent, overseas contract worker, etc.); pension (as retired Philippine Army, teacher, veteran) and honoraria as barangay officials. The researchers were not able to get accurate data on the income from these various sources but estimates were done based on the raw data gathered. Table 7 revealed that almost all the respondents (134 or 87%) had other sources of income. There were 20 (13%) of them who just relied on farming alone as the source of livelihood of the households. The highest income from other sources in all the categories was P261,120 and the lowest was P 700. Like the income from on-farm sources, heterogeneity was observed among them. Household income from all sources Another estimate was made on the household income from all sources. This was revealed in Table 8 below. Table 8. Household income from all sources.
