September 2012 Children’s News Contact Jill Bednas childrensministry@stmarksglenellyn.org St. Mark’s VBS Wrap UP St. Mark’s Vacation Bible School Week 2012 was a big hit this year. Our theme was Adventures on Promise Island where kids discover God’s lifesaving love. Registration was full weeks before we started and we had over 70 children (ages 4- 5 th grade) participate in the program from July 30- August 3. Caroline McAlpine, Cheryl Olsen and their awesome decorating crew of volunteers transformed Mahon Hall and the surrounding classrooms into a tropical paradise. We sang songs, made crafts, learned bible stories, ate themed snacks and played games. In addition, we had live music from David Fletcher and Chad Alcorn who performed some of our VBS songs! Thank you to them for their talents. New this year, we had a special session of Parents Day Out (PDO) for 2 and 3 year olds. PDO offered this special session during VBS week to raise funds for the St. Mark’s playground fund raiser. The playground has been re -graded and new steps, mulch and seating stones have been added – please check it out! After months of planning, every thing came together and we couldn’t have done it without such a wonderful group of volunteers to make it all happen. Many thanks to the following people who made VBS 2012 week great! ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ Abbey O'Rourke Alex Margaglione Amy Cooney Anna Gorman Bryn Wulf Carol Seume Caroline Fry Caroline McAlpine Carrie Pihl Cheryl Olsen Connor Gross Cynthia Mote Gil Long Holly Pelsor Jen Chavez Jenna Kelly Jennifer Childe Jocelyn Briones Karen Hill Kathy Kelly Kathy O'Rourke Kelly Czosnowski ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ Kelly Gross Kelly Gross Kendall Arlasky Krissy Czosnowski Kristin Margaglione Lauren Glavin Lauren Mordini Lisa Mordini Lydia Smith Matt McGovern Meghan Glavin Melody Mordini Nancy Czajka Norma Cid Norvin Briones Patty Weaver Penny Latta Rachel Alcorn Rebecca Farrell Sarah Adler Sydney Arlasky Godly Play for Age 4-Grade 1 Every Sunday at 9:15 am St. Mark’s offers a Children’s Worship Bible Story for children ages 4 through Grade 1. The format is called “Godly Play” where a Greeter meets children at the door and introduces children to this special time set aside just for them to WONDER ABOUT GOD. A Storyteller weaves the story using wooden figures and props, and then asks questions for children to reflect upon our Christian stories. No registration necessary and parents are welcome to stay, or children will be brought up for the Communion portion of service. Come check it out! Interested in volunteering? We are looking for 1 or 2 more volunteers to be a Storyteller or Greeter? No experience necessary.
