St. Mark’s Book Group will discuss Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand on September 18 (4:00 p.m.) at the home of Dianne Hunter and Stephen Curtis. If you need directions, please call Dianne at 630.730.1770. On October 23 the Book Group will discuss In the Garden of Beasts at the home of May Anstee. Time to be announced. Both books have gotten great reviews. Major Pettigrew is set in England while In the Garden of Beasts is a non-fiction work set in Berlin as the Third Reich gained momentum. For High School Seniors Only: The College Entrance Essay. Having trouble getting started? Got started but don’t know where to go with it? Uncomfortable writing about yourself, about your strengths and flaws? Not to worry! Meet me in the Parish Library with your entrance essay prompts (the paragraph response prompts count, too) and we will work together to wow those college admissions officers! Sunday afternoons from 2:00-3:00: September 25, October 2, October 9. Come to one, two, or all three sessions—whatever you need to get the job done. On September 11, St Mark’s will be staffing the PADS site at First Congregational Church, in Glen Ellyn, for the last time this summer. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Sign up in the narthex or contact Cindy & Brian Stepien at or 630-858-2350 Wanted: Gift Wrapping Supplies. The women’s ministries is collecting gift wrapping supplies for the Birthday Present Project, a ministry that supplies birthday presents for children (ages 3 through 12) in poverty in DuPage and Kane Counties. Women-to-Women, a ministry that includes all women of the church, is hosting a salad supper coupled with the Birthday Present Project service project. This event is occurring September 21. Folks who wish to donate supplies can do so in a collection box located in the Narthex through Sunday, September 18 as well as sign up to volunteer. Items are requested to be genderneutral and can include wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, scissors and/or gift tags. GIVE BLOOD, SAVE LIVES. On Sunday, Sept. 11 The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will be hosting a Blood Drive and Inter-denominational Prayer Service from 12 - 5pm (Prayer Service will be from 2-5pm) located at 2S 510 Rt. 53 in Glen Ellyn. This will be a wonderful way to remember the events of September 11, 2001. We are putting together a group of St. Mark's parishioners to participate. If interested, please contact Reeny Linstrom at or sign up on the sheet in the narthex.
