Lorien Novalis School Annual Report 2009 Reporting Area 1 - A Message from Key School Bodies Board of Directors Lorien Novalis School is a company registered not for gain. The Board of Directors consists of an equal number of representatives from the College of Teachers and members of the Association of Lorien Novalis School for Rudolf Steiner Education Ltd (parents, teachers, ex students and friends.) The school comprises Pre- school to Class 12 with adult courses in Steiner education also available. Donations to the school’s building fund are tax deducible. Lorien Novalis is Registered and Accredited by the Office of the Board of Studies NSW. The school is a member of the Association of Independent School NSW and receives both state and federal per capital funding at a middle level on a Governmental funding scale. Apart from school fees, government funding and school fund raising we receive no additional income. The school is a member of the Association of Rudolf Steiner Schools of Australia. The Board of Directors meets monthly with on going management meetings occurring, comprising School administrators/Directors . The College of Teachers Pupil numbers have continue to increase with the population of the school reaching its highest numbers. The college of teachers meets twice a week covering issues such as curriculum development, monitoring student progress and school management. Building work has begun $3.6 million school development assisted with a grant from the Federal Government. Reporting Area 2 - Value Added information Year 10 students attended a Driver Education Course. All students in classes 10 and 11 completed St. John’s First Aid Course. Class 7 completed a two- week cultural exchange trip to New Zealand. Class 8 undertook an intensive surf school with the Great lakes Surf School. Class 9 completed an Outback expedition completing areas of study in Stage 5 HSIE. Class 10 completed a one-week sailing training course as members of the ‘Young Endeavor’ in Queensland. Class 11 completed a 3-week intensive Sport Lifestyle and Recreation Course with students’ completing PADI diving license in Cairns. Class 12 completed a cultural community service trip to Vanuatu. All classes participated in the school’s performance programme with each class completing various performances including Winter festival and an end of year production. 3
