Total project costs: $403,000 14 Whiteside, Middlesex The Vermont River Conservancy acquired 70 acres of land along the North Branch of the Winooski River and conserved an additional 18 acres, protecting wildlife habitat and over two miles of undeveloped river frontage. A river corridor management easement will allow the North Branch to move within its floodplain during high water, absorbing the force of the water and preventing costly erosion. Land is 98 percent prime and statewide soils. Project supported by funds from Town of Georgia and by a bargain sale. $165,000 federal NRCS funding. Total project costs: $352,500 Geordie & Emery Lynd, Walden. $146,250 VHCB award to purchase conservation easement and Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value on 228-acre organic dairy Nordic Holsteins Farmland, Charlotte. $33,000 VHCB award to purchase conservation easement and Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value on 236 acres agricultural land. The land is 94% prime and statewide soils and helps meet the forage needs of an expanding 700-head dairy operation. The project contains other resource values and is very highly leveraged. $294,500 federal NRCS funds. Total project costs: $331,600 Nate & Brenda Smith Farmland, Pawlet. $84,000 NRCS funds to purchase conservation easement and Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value on 52-acre parcel of 100% prime and statewide riverbottom agricultural land. Includes 2,700 ft. of frontage on the Mettowee River. $106,500 Athens Dome, Grafton The Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association added 195 acres to a nearly 2,000-acre nature reserve created over the last 20 years.
