Of the 111 students who received their Doctor of Pharmacy degrees in
June 2007, 14 graduated cum laude, 11 magna cum laude and 2 graduated
summa cum laude. Our students graduate from OSU prepared to accept
positions in hospitals, community/ambulatory pharmacies, managed care
and other interesting pharmacy professions. We continue to see our students
excel in their performance on the NAPLEX and MPJE licensure
exams…99% pass rates for both exams (first-time candidates).

James Boakye-Dankwah Jr.'s
parents came to the US in 1981,
from a small village of the Ashanti
Kingdom in Ghana, West Africa.
James, Jr, born in Athens,
Georgia, while his father was a
graduate student at the University
of Georgia, will succeed his
father as the second in his family
to earn a doctoral degree. His
mother, Roslyn, a registered
nurse, and father, James, an OSU
Alum, ingrained in their children
the principles of faith, discipline
and dedication. James, Jr. will
earn a Doctor of Pharmacy
degree with honors in 2008.
James credits his career
direction to Dr. Ken Hale,
Assistant Dean for Professional
and External Affairs. A High
School counselor connected
James with Dr. Hale, resulting in
an internship at OSU. That was all
James needed to ignite his
interest and passion for the
profession of Pharmacy. Says Dr.
Hale, “Given his character, work
ethic, leadership abilities and
commitment to his studies, I have
no doubt James will make a real
difference in our profession".
James is making his university
experience count in numerous
ways. He presently serves on the
Dean’s Diversity Committee and is
the National Secretary of Finance
for the Student National
Pharmaceutical Association.
Vicky Tkacz, Entry-Level PharmD
student from Mayfield, Ohio,
remembers dreaming of becoming
a pharmacist since she was a
very young child. Her father, a
store manager for Revco, held the
pharmacist in high esteem and
Vicky learned early the important
role a pharmacist plays in
healthcare.
Vicky, through the Early-
Admission Pathway, will earn her
PharmD degree in 2009. Her
interest in health literacy and
disease management will likely
lead her to the area of community
pharmacy where she can work
closely with her community.
In the meantime Vicky is active
in many student organizations.
A leader in the American Pharmacists
Association Academy of
Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP),
she is involved with Katy’s Kids,
Operation Diabetes, Heartburn
Awareness and Operation
Immunization.
Vicky gained research
experience at the National
Institutes of Health and with
Dr. Karl Werbovetz in Pharmacy.
She is the recipient of the John
M. and Nancy A. Cassady
Scholarship for student
leadership and served as Chair,
Beat Michigan Week, in 2004.
