From the Director, Margaret Resnick

Mundelein Park & Recreation District Board of Commissioners

Pat McGrath

President

We get by with a little help from our friends...

There are so many events, programs and projects here at the Mundelein Park &

Recreation District that would not be nearly as successful if we didn’t have the

help of amazing partners. As The Beatles sang, we all can do more with “a little

help.” In this case, it's not “my” friends, it's “our” friends.

Probably the most visible and recognizable partnership is with Mundelein Community Days. While this

annual summer event is hosted by the Village of Mundelein, it is held on property owned by the Park

District and Santa Maria del Popolo Catholic Church. Without the three entities working together, this

long-standing favorite would not be such a success.

The new Mundelein Arts Festival held in September at Kracklauer Park is another great partnership.

This event is sponsored by Mundelein Community Connection. Last year’s inaugural event held at the

Park District's very first neighborhood park located in the center of town, was outstanding and helped

promote Mundelein as a cultural destination for the weekend. While the award-winning Pumpkin Drop

is organized and run by the Park District, the focal point of the event is the trebuchet, built by teachers

and students at Mundelein High School, that gets those pumpkins soaring into recycling.

The Fort Hill Heritage Museum, on Noel Drive, offers a historical journey into Mundelein with a

wonderful mix of exhibits, artifacts and unique displays. It's free and great for all ages. Mundelein Park

District and The Historical Society of the Fort Hill Country have partnered together to bring the

community this treasure. Come visit, it's open Saturdays.

We hope you have noticed work recently completed on Bull Creek and Seavey Ditch. Partnering and

working together on these projects with organizations like Lake County Stormwater Management

Commission helped us realize grants to assist with project funding.

An area that probably touches most residents is youth sports. Mundelein American Youth Soccer

Organization ‰ , Mundelein Junior Football League and Mundelein Little League utilize Park District

fields for practices and games, free of charge. These groups assist, in turn, by helping maintain the

sports fields, supplying personnel for registration, coaching and refereeing teams,

ordering uniforms, and scheduling.

All of us working together enable the community to enjoy more programs and

facilities while managing costs, pooling resources and expertise. As our

mission states, we are committed to providing diverse recreation experiences that

connect the community through quality programs, facilities and open space.

Thank you for helping us along the way.

Sharing your Parks

Throughout the year, remember to share your parks safely. Please watch your speed, stopping and

signaling when driving around park zones.

while passing parks and recreation facilities and areas. Details are available at

www.ilga.gov/legislation.

Provides that (i) exceeding the posted speed limit while passing a park zone or in an area where

children are going to or coming from a park zone or (ii) failure to come to a complete stop at a

stop sign or signal, including a signal at which a right turn on red is permitted, in an area where

a park zone speed limit applies, is a violation of the new provision.

Park Rules to Remember

• Leave nature as you found it for others to enjoy and dispose of litter in proper receptacles

Registration

All Mundelein Park & Recreation District (MPRD)

programs require a minimum number of participants

five business days before a class begins. A maximum

number is also listed to ensure quality instruction.

Classes may be combined and times modified to

facilitate better programs. Receipts are mailed to

those enrolled.

Safety is a Priority

MPRD recognizes that safety is a top priority to

all who visit our parks and facilities. We place an

emphasis on safety to ensure that you, as park

and facility patrons, have a safe, fun experience.

To ensure your parks and facilities are as safe as

possible, we need your help. If you see or hear

about something that may be unsafe, i.e. broken

playground equipment, an animal hole by an

athletic field, or anything else that you feel may

be hazardous, please call us at 847-566-0650.

Insurance

MPRD is unable to assume responsibility for

injuries or accidents occurring at programs,

activities, parks and facilities. Carrying medical

insurance for participants would make the

program user fees prohibitive.

Photo Policy

Participants of programs and special events

permit the taking of photos and videos of

themselves and their children for potential

publication in Park District printed materials as

well as for online/electronic media. All photos

and videos taken on Park District property are for

Park District use and become its sole property.

Care for Your Parks

Preserve the natural beauty around you. Please

don’t climb trees, cut branches, pick plants or

flowers, or approach animals or their nests.

Dispose of litter properly. Please recycle this

brochure when you’re finished.

Oops!

Occasionally, there may be an error that

appears in print or online regarding days, times,

requirements, fees or other information. When

such errors occur, MPRD will do everything

possible to correct the situation promptly.

Thank you for your understanding.

Residents/Non-Residents Defined

The term resident refers to Park District residents

who live within Mundelein Park & Recreation

District boundaries and who contribute financial

support to the Park District through property

taxes. Some residents with a Mundelein mailing

address may not be residents of the Mundelein

Park District. Please contact our office at

847-388-5451 if you need residency

information.

The non-resident fee structure is in place to

ensure fairness to our residents. Residents of the

Park District contribute financial support to the

District through property taxes. The Board of

Commissioners has elected the non-resident fee

structure to make non-resident use of our

programs and facilities equitable to our

residents. “NR” means non-resident.

Family

A family is defined as no more than two adults

and their unmarried children, up to age 21,

residing within the same household, full time.

Children ages 22 years and older, other relatives

and/or individuals in the same household, are not

included in this definition.

Discipline

A positive approach is used regarding discipline.

Staff periodically review rules with participants

during programs. If inappropriate or unacceptable

behavior occurs, prompt resolution will be

sought and the Behavior Code of Conduct will

be used as a guideline. The Park District reserves

the right to remove a participant whose actions

endanger the safety of himself or others.

The Behavior Code of Conduct includes:

• Show respect to all participants, staff and

volunteers

• Follow direction from staff and volunteers

• Show respect to equipment, supplies and

facilities

• Will not use inappropriate, abusive or foul

language

• Will not show any disruptive or aggressive

behavior (hitting, punching, slapping, kicking,

biting, etc.), regardless of whether behavior is

initiated or in retaliation

More information next page.

Fall 2012 61

Termination of Participant

MPRD reserves the right to terminate the

participation of any individual in any Park District

program, event or facility for disruptive behavior or

if it is considered by the Park District that continued

participation of the individual is not in the best

interest of the participant or others.

Recreation/Program Scholarships

Scholarship assistance may be available for those

in financial need. For more information or to see if

you qualify, call 847-388-5450.

Refund Policy, etc.

• A full refund will be issued if the Park District

REGISTRATION WAIVER & RELEASE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (Please read and sign)

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District (MPRD) is committed to conducting its recreation programs and

activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. MPRD continually strives to reduce

such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect

participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the below listed

programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in

recreational activities/programs.

You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the

activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant,

disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before

undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK

Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of

each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and

equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not

all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that

certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning,

carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises’ defects, inadequate or defective equipment,

inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor

recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for MPRD to guarantee

absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

programs, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for

injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and

all activities connected with and associated with these programs/activities (including transportation services and

vehicle operations, when provided).

I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in these programs,

and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that

my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all

claims my minor child/ward or I may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in these

programs against MPRD, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees.

I do hereby fully release and forever discharge MPRD, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees

from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue

to me or my minor child/ward and arising out of, connected with, in any way associated with these programs/

activities.

I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and

waiver and release of all claims. If registering via fax, my facsimile signature shall substitute for and have the

same legal effect as an original form signature.
