<strong>IWA</strong> Fellows Nomination Form<br />
Please read this <strong><strong>for</strong>m</strong> carefully be<strong>for</strong>e proceeding with your <strong>nomination</strong>.<br />
This <strong><strong>for</strong>m</strong> is used to nominate individuals <strong>for</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong> <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow. All <strong>IWA</strong> members are<br />
eligible <strong>for</strong> <strong>nomination</strong> unless they also serve on the <strong>IWA</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.<br />
You do not have to be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>IWA</strong> to nominate an <strong>IWA</strong> individual <strong>for</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong><br />
Fellow. Please note however that as a nominator you are limited to direct participation in<br />
at most two candidates' <strong>nomination</strong>s per year. Direct participation includes serving as<br />
nominator or writing a letter <strong>of</strong> support. Thus, <strong>for</strong> example, you may write letters <strong>of</strong><br />
support <strong>for</strong> two candidates, or serve as nominator <strong>for</strong> one candidate and write a support<br />
letter <strong>for</strong> another candidate. Indirect participation, through the encouragement <strong>of</strong> other to<br />
nominate people or to write supporting letters, is not limited.<br />
As a nominator your duties are to:<br />
Review the requirements <strong>for</strong> classification as a Fellow.<br />
<br />
Consider the qualifications <strong>of</strong> the individual you are nominating to determine that they<br />
are truly the most worthy <strong>of</strong> candidates and consider whether they are likely to<br />
continue to contribute during their five-year term as a Fellow.<br />
<br />
Considered whether the nominee is in a position to comply with the objectives <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>IWA</strong> Fellows programme.<br />
<br />
Provide the full in<strong><strong>for</strong>m</strong>ation requested below ensuring that all supporting files are in<br />
the name <strong>of</strong> the nominee. Any incomplete <strong>nomination</strong>s will not be accepted<br />
<strong>for</strong> submission.<br />
Nominations must be submitted by February 18 <strong>2011</strong> to be considered <strong>for</strong> this Award<br />
round. New Fellows will be confirmed by June <strong>of</strong> <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

Election to <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow grade is one <strong>of</strong> the highest honours that can be bestowed upon an<br />
individual by the Association. The accomplishments that are being honoured shall have<br />
contributed importantly to the advancement or application <strong>of</strong> water science and<br />
technology, bringing the realization <strong>of</strong> significant value to society.<br />
An <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow is a member <strong>of</strong> an elite group <strong>of</strong> global water pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with<br />
international recognition and known <strong>for</strong> their <strong>guidance</strong> and leadership in the world <strong>of</strong> water<br />
science, technology and management as it continues to evolve.<br />
The grade <strong>of</strong> Fellow recognizes unusual and outstanding distinction in the pr<strong>of</strong>ession and<br />
shall be conferred by the <strong>IWA</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors upon a person with an extraordinary<br />
record <strong>of</strong> accomplishments in any <strong>of</strong> the <strong>IWA</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> interest.<br />
REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSIFICATION AS AN <strong>IWA</strong> FELLOW<br />
<br />
An <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow can have made significant contributions as an application engineer or<br />
practitioner, an educator, a utility manager, a regulator, a research engineer, a<br />
scientist or as a technical leader.<br />
<br />
This recognition is not only <strong>for</strong> past contributions. It is expected that an <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow will<br />
continue to be active and make significant pr<strong>of</strong>essional contribution <strong>for</strong> years to come,<br />
as appropriate <strong>for</strong> their role as listed above. Fellows are expected to be active<br />
ambassadors <strong>for</strong> <strong>IWA</strong>, demonstrating the very best <strong>of</strong> our members in terms <strong>of</strong><br />
continuing contributions to the pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />
<br />
At the time <strong>of</strong> the <strong>nomination</strong> the nominee shall have been an <strong>IWA</strong> member <strong>for</strong> a<br />
period <strong>of</strong> five years or more preceding 1 January <strong>of</strong> the year <strong>of</strong> elevation.<br />
Members elevated to the <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow grade may use the title immediately following<br />
approval by the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors. All those elevated will receive a congratulatory letter, a<br />
framed certificate, and Fellow pin, as well as acknowledgement in the <strong>IWA</strong> yearbook,<br />
Water21 and on the <strong>IWA</strong> website. Appointment as a Fellow is <strong>for</strong> a term <strong>of</strong> five years,<br />
renewable upon mutual consent.<br />

I. List the contributions that you expect the nominee to make during their five-year term<br />
as an <strong>IWA</strong> Fellow.<br />
Brita Forssberg is a <strong><strong>for</strong>m</strong>er Manager <strong>of</strong> Communications and will<br />
contribute to increase the importance <strong>of</strong> efficient and well adapted<br />
communications in water utilities and among water specialists in<br />
different fields. The aim is to make communications an effective<br />
management tool that supports the daily work in and by utilities so that<br />
water becomes really visible, interesting and significant in society. The<br />
aim is also to stimulate researchers to use communications when<br />
explaining their findings and applications to those who will use them.<br />
This can be done through selecting good practical examples <strong>for</strong><br />
presentation at conferences, in journals and through specialist group<br />
activities etc.<br />
II. Provide evidence that the nominee will be able to make the suggested contributions.<br />
Brita Forssberg is chairing the <strong>IWA</strong> Specialist Group on Marketing &<br />
Communications.<br />

Letters <strong>of</strong> Support<br />
Letters <strong>of</strong> support are generally the most important input to the committee’s assessment.<br />
Nominators need to obtain convincing letters <strong>of</strong> support <strong>for</strong> the <strong>nomination</strong> <strong>from</strong> qualified<br />
individuals. To be effective, a letter should be as specific as possible and should<br />
convincingly attest to the contributions made by the nominee to the industry but also<br />
indicate how the nominee will be able to continue serving the pr<strong>of</strong>ession and <strong>IWA</strong> through<br />
ongoing contributions.<br />

I have been an <strong>IWA</strong> friend <strong>for</strong> many years and strongly believe in the role<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>IWA</strong> as an inspiring knowledge provider through its wide member<br />
network. I want to make more people in my pr<strong>of</strong>essional sector to<br />
benefit <strong>from</strong> similar experiences: to meet and learn <strong>from</strong> colleagues – to<br />
their own benefit and to the benefit <strong>of</strong> the water sector at large.<br />

Curriculum Vitae<br />

Brita Forssberg has a BA in languages and pedagogy <strong>from</strong> the University <strong>of</strong><br />
Stockholm. She studied economics and business administration at the Stockholm<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Economics.<br />
She was a Manager <strong>of</strong> Communications at Stockholm Water Company <strong>for</strong> over 20<br />
years until 2005 when she retired. The job can be described as educating people<br />
in Stockholm about their role in the water supply/wastewater treatment process.<br />
Be<strong>for</strong>e that she worked <strong>for</strong> 4 years as a PR consultant at an agency within the<br />
Young & Rubicam advertising group. The clients were mainly heavy industries.<br />
And be<strong>for</strong>e that she worked with in<strong><strong>for</strong>m</strong>ation, public relations and<br />
communications at Handelsbanken and an organization specialized in HR.<br />

She has received prices and awards <strong>for</strong> effective communications.<br />
She was vice Chair <strong>of</strong> the IWSA Public Relations Committée <strong>for</strong> several years.<br />
