IWA Fellows Nomination Form
Please read this form carefully before proceeding with your nomination.
This form is used to nominate individuals for the rank of IWA Fellow. All IWA members are
eligible for nomination unless they also serve on the IWA Board of Directors.
You do not have to be a member of IWA to nominate an IWA individual for the rank of
Fellow. Please note however that as a nominator you are limited to direct participation in
at most two candidates' nominations per year. Direct participation includes serving as
nominator or writing a letter of support. Thus, for example, you may write letters of
support for two candidates, or serve as nominator for one candidate and write a support
letter for another candidate. Indirect participation, through the encouragement of other to
nominate people or to write supporting letters, is not limited.
As a nominator your duties are to:
Review the requirements for classification as a Fellow.
Consider the qualifications of the individual you are nominating to determine that they
are truly the most worthy of candidates and consider whether they are likely to
continue to contribute during their five-year term as a Fellow.
Considered whether the nominee is in a position to comply with the objectives of the
IWA Fellows programme.
Provide the full information requested below ensuring that all supporting files are in
the name of the nominee. Any incomplete nominations will not be accepted
for submission.
Nominations must be submitted by February 18 2011 to be considered for this Award
round. New Fellows will be confirmed by June of 2011.

Election to IWA Fellow grade is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed upon an
individual by the Association. The accomplishments that are being honoured shall have
contributed importantly to the advancement or application of water science and
technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society.
An IWA Fellow is a member of an elite group of global water professionals with
international recognition and known for their guidance and leadership in the world of water
science, technology and management as it continues to evolve.
The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual and outstanding distinction in the profession and
shall be conferred by the IWA Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary
record of accomplishments in any of the IWA fields of interest.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSIFICATION AS AN IWA FELLOW
An IWA Fellow can have made significant contributions as an application engineer or
practitioner, an educator, a utility manager, a regulator, a research engineer, a
scientist or as a technical leader.
This recognition is not only for past contributions. It is expected that an IWA Fellow will
continue to be active and make significant professional contribution for years to come,
as appropriate for their role as listed above. Fellows are expected to be active
ambassadors for IWA, demonstrating the very best of our members in terms of
continuing contributions to the profession.
At the time of the nomination the nominee shall have been an IWA member for a
period of five years or more preceding 1 January of the year of elevation.
Members elevated to the IWA Fellow grade may use the title immediately following
approval by the Board of Directors. All those elevated will receive a congratulatory letter, a
framed certificate, and Fellow pin, as well as acknowledgement in the IWA yearbook,
Water21 and on the IWA website. Appointment as a Fellow is for a term of five years,
renewable upon mutual consent.

I. List the contributions that you expect the nominee to make during their five-year term
as an IWA Fellow.
Brita Forssberg is a former Manager of Communications and will
contribute to increase the importance of efficient and well adapted
communications in water utilities and among water specialists in
different fields. The aim is to make communications an effective
management tool that supports the daily work in and by utilities so that
water becomes really visible, interesting and significant in society. The
aim is also to stimulate researchers to use communications when
explaining their findings and applications to those who will use them.
This can be done through selecting good practical examples for
presentation at conferences, in journals and through specialist group
activities etc.
II. Provide evidence that the nominee will be able to make the suggested contributions.
Brita Forssberg is chairing the IWA Specialist Group on Marketing &
Communications.
SECTION IV
Letters of Support
Letters of support are generally the most important input to the committee’s assessment.
Nominators need to obtain convincing letters of support for the nomination from qualified
individuals. To be effective, a letter should be as specific as possible and should
convincingly attest to the contributions made by the nominee to the industry but also
indicate how the nominee will be able to continue serving the profession and IWA through
ongoing contributions.

Self-Statement
All nominated individuals need to confirm support for their nomination by providing a selfstatement
on their willingness to serve as a Fellow of IWA.
I have been an IWA friend for many years and strongly believe in the role
of IWA as an inspiring knowledge provider through its wide member
network. I want to make more people in my professional sector to
benefit from similar experiences: to meet and learn from colleagues – to
their own benefit and to the benefit of the water sector at large.

Curriculum Vitae
The CV or resume often valuably supplements the nomination form by providing additional
contributions that may not have a clear place on the form and by detailing long-term and
consistent contributions to the profession. Please ensure you attach a copy of the
nominee’s CV to complete your submission.
Brita Forssberg has a BA in languages and pedagogy from the University of
Stockholm. She studied economics and business administration at the Stockholm
School of Economics.
She was a Manager of Communications at Stockholm Water Company for over 20
years until 2005 when she retired. The job can be described as educating people
in Stockholm about their role in the water supply/wastewater treatment process.
Before that she worked for 4 years as a PR consultant at an agency within the
Young & Rubicam advertising group. The clients were mainly heavy industries.
And before that she worked with information, public relations and
communications at Handelsbanken and an organization specialized in HR.

She has received prices and awards for effective communications.
She was vice Chair of the IWSA Public Relations Committée for several years.
