LETTER FROM CLUB’s PRESIDENT
Dear Members
The comprehensive redevelopment project of the Club which commenced in year 2000
is finally nearing completion. The revamped Recreation Complex (RC) will re-open its
doors with enhanced facilities by mid November this year. Regular swimmers at the
RC will once again be able to enjoy their leisurely laps and the new alfresco dining
facility by the pool. The Heritage Gallery located at Level 3 will also be unveiled
on 30 November 2012. Do refer to the Bulletin for more updates on the upgraded
facilities in the Recreation Complex.
Members may also be aware that the amendments to the Club Constitution have
been approved by the Registrar of Societies and the amendments have come into
effect since 1 October 2012. You may obtain a copy of the Constitution from the Front
Office or download from the Club’s website www.chineseswimmingclub.org.sg. We
congratulate and applaud those members who participated in the “Register Your Email
Contest” who have won themselves F&B vouchers. For those who have yet to register
their emails to receive E-Freestyle, please do so to support the Club’s “Go Green”
efforts.
I also would like to congratulate the CSC youth swimmers who once again came up
tops at the recent 18th SSC Open Midget Meet 2012.
The school holidays and festive seasons are fast approaching. Do keep a lookout for
the delectable line-up of F&B Festive Buffets as well as the year-end parties and festivities. Members who
periodically suffer from aches and pains may find reprieve in the Fix Your Body, Ease The Pain program.
With the year-end festivities beckoning, learn the art of chocolate making in our Chocolate Workshop
and surprise friends and loved ones with personalised gifts of these sweet treats. Parents do register
your young ones for the Kidzmas Party on 8 December which promises to be totally fun and memorable.
On behalf of the Management and administrative staff of the Club, I wish all members a very blessed
Christmas and may the coming new year be filled with wondrous joy and peace.
Shalom and God Bless,
BALLOON LANTERN
FRENZY PARTY
The fascinated kids were all eager to produce the most stunning
masterpiece as they painstakingly painted their paper lanterns
during the children’s lantern party.
The busy bees were also treated to a session of balloon sculpting
and in a heart beat, a school of brightly coloured fish lanterns
emerged. The new found friends also had a blast during the game of
11 members of the tennis section together with their
families, crossed the border for the first of the four
friendlies at Segamat Country Club. The section then
made their way to Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club, home
to the annual Port Dickson Open. Like in Segamat, the
CSC team was overwhelmed by the warm hospitality of
their hosts.
Day three found the team at KL’s Royal Lake Club, one
of Malaysia’s oldest and most prestigious clubs. This is
believed to be the first instance of club-level sporting
alliance between CSC and Royal Lake, with the host
scheduled to make a return visit to Singapore later in
the year.
Single Age Group Swimming Meet 2012
The Single Age Group Swimming Meet is a selection meet for the annual Junior Inter-Club Age Group Swimming
Championships where children aged 7 & under to 11 swim it out for the championship title. This year, 127 hopefuls vied to
represent the Club in the inter-club competition, which will be held on 4 November at the Toa Payoh Swimming Complex.
More tennis followed on Sunday morning, on the indoor
courts of Kelab Darul Ehsan before their return trip
home. Besides savouring the mouthwatering fare in the
course of their travel, great memories, family ties and
friendships were also cemented during the 4-day trip.
Kudos to Maximillian Ang who broke one of the longest standing records of the meet – Boys 10 Years Old 200m
Individual Medley. Gerald Koh had held the record with a timing of 2:40.88 since 1989 and Maximillian broke that with
a timing of 2:37.42. Well done!
Much appreciation goes to the volunteers whom, once again, contributed to the successful running of the 2-day meet.
CSC-Japan National Selection Squash Friendly Game
In Singapore for an 8-day squash tour, the Japan National Selection team headed down to CSC for a friendly game on
31 August.
Several familiar faces were spotted once again. To mark the event, CSC players welcomed the team with a friendly
gesture of memento exchange. Both teams enjoyed the games tremendously and renewed their ties during the dinner
specially prepared for our friends from the land of the Rising Sun.
CREATIVE FOOD ART FOR KIDS
What are we making? May we eat them, please?
The little ones simply could not wait to get their hands to start moulding their own sushi bento. Simple ingredients
such as cheese, hams and carrots were used. Various tools including cookie cutters were provided in the making of
the “kawaii” bento sets.
The workshop proved to be a rewarding one indeed as each participant got to create and enjoy their very own bento
masterpieces.
SOCIAL DANCE PARTY
The Activity Suites were decorated with
fascinating masks in line with Mardi Gras theme
on 8 September as members and guests partied
to the beat of the music after a sumptuous dinner.
Our spontaneous participants also throughly
enjoyed the games with some lucky winners
waltzing home with some fanstastic prizes.
ENZYME & DIGESTION
HEALTH TALK – THE KEY
TO A HEALTHY YOU!
The importance of enzymes and our digestive
system was shared with CSC members on 6 October
by Certified Enzyme Therapist, Ms Charlene Hui, of
Transformation Enzyme Corporation, USA, Texas.
Not only will cooking kill germs and bacteria inherent
in the food, it also destroys the enzymes needed for
digestion to take place.
Hands On Sushi
Making Workshop
The workshop received overwhelming full
house attendance on 30 September. It
was an eye opener as the crowd watched
on while Chef Alvin Wong demonstrated
the fine technique of making Gunkan
Sushi, California Maki, Temaki Sushi,
Kyuri Sushi, Kani Sushi and many more.
Members also had a jolly good time
during the hands on session as they put
their new-found knowledge to the test.
ACTIVATE THE HEALING QI WITHIN
Qi Gong is widely practiced to treat or cure an existing illness, to prevent the onset of disease, to increase stamina
or energy levels and to slow down the ageing process.
Having discipled thousands around the world in his systematic art of Qigong exercise and meditation, Grandmaster
Anthony Wee, founder of Chi Dynamics International, shared the benefits of Qigong on 6 October with a class of
health conscious CSC members.
Members practiced the various breathing methods during the demonstration which strengthens bones and even help
to boost the functionality of vital organs such the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and digestive organs.
Back-to-School Night By Janice Lim
Memories of school days were re-lived on the night of 8 August 2012,
when the Bookworm Beauties, together with their bunch of unruly
students took over the bar and zapped everyone back to school days.
The exclusive shooter for the night was aptly named “Exam Fever”, a
concoction which had a part in our members feverish revelry at the bar!
Macallan Whisky
Tasting Night By Janice Lim
‘Single’ Malt Scotch Whisky is Scotch Whisky
distilled at a single distillery entirely from malted
barley
Mixologist and Brand Ambassador, Mr Jamey
Merkel, from Beam Global Asia titillated 30
registered members and their guests with his
knowledge of whisky making, on 2 October at
Three Bars. The varying casks used in whisky
making as well as the different periods of aging
were some of the interesting facts which got
the attention of ardent whisky attendees. The
highlight of the event was the samplings of fine
12, 15 and 18 years single-malt whiskies.
Formula One Night By Janice Lim
The Grid Girls took centerstage when Three Bars decked itself in checks of black and white to bring on the
adrenalin of F1 racing. It was full speed ahead throughout the night, together with the exclusive shooter,
“Formula One” which “raced” the atmosphere of good fun that night.
Wine & Dine With
Castello Banfi By Michelle Ng
Italian Toscana (or Italian wine) is home to some of
thre the world’s
the most acclaimed reds produced. The evening of
21 August marked the biggest dinner pairings of the
year. Members marvelled at the fine display of culinary
skills in the fusion platters of the evening - the Marsala
Glaze Duck Liver Atop with Seared Sea Scallop. Well appraised by many attendees,
the well prepared Roast Black Angus Ribeye with Red Wine Jus, exudes a taste of pure
excellence justified by the exquisite pairing of the Cum Laude Toscana IGT 2008. We
would like to extend our thanks to Auric Pacific for their kind sponsorship.
See you at the next wine pairing on 10 January 2013.
