WELCOME, to the fourth Annual Tri-Peachtree City Triathlon. To our
returning athletes – welcome back! To our first-timers, let me just say you
are in for a real treat! First the preliminary stuff:

Parking: First right turn off Willowbend in the First Presbyterian
Church, First Baptist Church parking lots, and lower library parking.
Packet Pick-Up: If you belong to USAT, bring your membership card.
If you do not have it, you will need to purchase a one day pass that is nonrefundable
- $9.00 (you may have already purchased it online). A picture
ID is also required. If you will be using your own ChampionChip, bring it
as well.
Timing & Race Numbers: This race will be timed using the
ChampionChip timing system. Secure your chip to either ankle. Your
race number should be clearly visible attached to your bicycle frame, and
your run number displayed on your front throughout the run segment.
Race number belts are allowed. Do not tear the strip off the bottom of
your race number.
Please Don’t Litter! This race is unique in that it lies entirely with the
city limits of a town we are proud to call home. Please be a good citizen
or visitor, and don’t throw your trash out on the bike and run courses. As
far as any gel packets, energy bars wrappers, etc. – don’t throw any of
these materials on the ground outside the immediate area of the aid
stations. If you are caught disposing of any trash on the bike or run
course, you will be penalized, beaten, and ridiculed.
ITU Developmental Athletes:
ITU Developmental Athletes will once again be racing the Olympic
(Draft-Legal) format this year. Open only to ages 13-23, these athletes will
be restricted to specific equipment, and will race separately from age
groupers for separate awards. Specifically, they must:
1. Be between the ages of 13-23 on race day. 13- 15 are Youth.
16-19 are Juniors. 20-23 are U23.
2. Adhere to the following equipment requirements:
• Only traditional drop handlebars are permitted
• Clip-ons will be permitted provided they do not extend
more than 15 cm beyond the front wheel axle, and they are
not longer than the brake levers' foremost line.
• Straight forward clip-ons must be bridged, and must not
carry forward facing brake levers
• No forward facing bar or gear shifters are allowed on the
end of the clip-ons. The only exception will be grip shifters.
• Elbow pads are permitted.
3. Adhere to all other ITU rules. They can be reviewed at:

4. Attend the mandatory meeting at 5:00pm Friday, August 25, 2006.
Those not present will be allowed to participate in the age-group
(draft-illegal) race.
Note: Items in this booklet specific to these athletes will be identified
by the symbol : !ITU

USA Triathlon Rules: Officials will be enforcing USAT rules. Complete
rules are available at www.usatriathlon.org, and a summary of the most
commonly violated rules are included in this booklet. Just a reminder –
Drafting is legal for the ITU Developmental Waves only (see ITU rule
reference above). No age-group drafting!
Body Marking: All participants must be marked at the body marking
area – as you enter the transition area at Drake Field. Body marking will
begin at 5:30 am
Pre-Race Instructions/Meeting: Pre-race instructions will be given at
the swim start at 7:00 am. Be there.
Awards: Award presentations will begin at 9:45 am at the finish/post race
refreshment area. You must be present to collect your award, or have
someone get it for you. Awards will not be mailed out. Stick around, the
awards are very cool, and at 3 deep in a 750 athlete field, you probably
have a better chance than you think.
Results: Results will be posted on www.tri-ptc.com,
Transition Area:
• No bike storage the night before the race.
• Participants only in the transition area.
• Bike rack assignments will be made – look for your numbered rack.
Place your bike on your number, on the appropriate side, preferably
seat on the rack.
• Only the race participant will be allowed to remove his/her bike
from the transition area.
• Participants will not be allowed to mount bikes inside transition
area – and will be required to dismount at transition area entrance
following the bike segment.
• No Glass in the transition area. (It’s a DQ!)
• Please keep your equipment & clothing in your designated location
– items will not be allowed in the main aisle of the Transition Area
Swim:
• Be at the swim start no later than 7:00AM
• ITU Developmental athletes will start in the first waves. Age
groupers will start 2 at a time every 5 seconds, after the ITU waves.
• If you feel like you need any assistance, please wave your hand
above your head. Our water safety personnel will get to you
immediately.
• There will be a water station as you exit the swim.
• USAT wetsuit rules will apply. If the water temperature is 78
degrees or lower, wetsuits will be allowed. If the water temperature
is 79 – 83 degrees, wetsuits will be allowed – HOWEVER, that
individual will not be eligible for any awards and will not receive
any USAT national ranking points. If the water temperature is 84
degrees or higher – wetsuits will not be allowed. Latest
temperature measured as we went to print was well above 78 –
probably no wetsuits for those going for awards or wishing to be
ranked.

Bike:
• !ITU ITU Developmental athletes may only draft off other athletes
in their own category, not off other category athletes or age
groupers.
• No drafting among age groupers. I really, really, mean it.
• Officials will be on the course. They are here to ensure you have a
safe, fair race. Make sure you read through the “Most commonly
violated rules”.
• Hard shell helmets must be worn.
• Helmets must be fastened before leaving the transition area.
• Stay to the right to allow faster cyclists to pass on the left. Yeah,
sorry to say, there are always faster cyclists.
• Bike course aid station is limited to the Transition area.
Recommend you bring water bottle(s).
• Bicycles Unlimited will be out there providing bike support. They
only have so many hands, so make sure your equipment is in good
shape to complete the 13.2 miles. You don’t want your sorry butt
hauled back ingloriously in the back of the sag wagon.
• Bike frame numbers that are provided must be attached to the top
tube of the bike near the handlebars, or behind the seat.
• Helmet numbers provided should be affixed to the front of your
helmet.
• No headphones, earphones or any radio-type devices will be
allowed.
• There are plenty of volunteers and police officers along the course
but it is ultimately your responsibility to know the course.
Reference the map included in your race packet.
• The course is marked with arrows and has mile markers.
• Participants will not be allowed to mount their bikes in the
transition area at the start of the ride. Walk or run it out to the
pavement. Participants will also have to dismount at the entrance to
the transition area following the ride.
Run:
• The course is a little different this year, reverting back to a counterclockwise
run. Refer to the course map included in your race
packet.
• You must wear the race number (with the pull tag) that is provided
on the front of your body during the run.
• Aid stations at approximately mile 1 and mile 2 with water and
Gatorade.
• No headphones, earphones or any radio-type devices will be
allowed.
• Run course marked with white lime (arrows). Mile markers at
each mile. Volunteers and marshals at approximately each half
mile.
• Use caution. Cart paths are not closed to traffic. Pedestrians, golf
carts and bicycles may be present.
Post-Race:
• After crossing the finish line, you must turn in your timing chip (or
verify that you own it) prior to receiving your medal. Volunteers
will be on hand to help remove them.
• After collecting your medal, recover with refreshments from our
sponsors at Einstein Bros Bagels, Partners II Pizza, Publix,
Starbucks Coffee, and Ted’s Montana Grill. Note that food and
drinks are for registered athletes only.
• Relax in the bleachers (which should be shaded for most of the
race), and enjoy live music while cheering on the rest of the
finishers.
Once again, welcome, and let me assure you that our team of over 100
volunteers is doing everything in our power to give you the finest possible
race experience. See you at the start line!

USA TRIATHLON MOST COMMONLY VIOLATED RULES &
PENALTIES
1. Helmets: (Penalty: Disqualification)
No modifications may be made to the helmet. Helmets must be worn as they
were purchased. If the helmet came with a cloth cover, the cover must be on the
helmet when competing.
2. Chin Straps: (Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty
in transition area only.)
Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle
your chin strap unless you are off your bicycle.
3. Outside Assistance: (Penalty: Variable time penalty)
No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used.
Triathlons and duathlons are individual tests of fitness.
4. Transition Area: (Penalty: Variable time penalty)
All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually
assigned bike corral. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright
position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another
participant's equipment or impede the progress of another participant. No
participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area (DQ!).
5. Drafting: (Penalty: Variable time penalty)
Drafting—keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you
and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within
15 seconds.
Position—keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing.
Blocking—riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and
interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass.
Overtaken—once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone
from the rear, before attempting to pass again.
6. Course: (Penalty: Referee's discretion)
All competitors are required to follow the prescribed course and to stay within all
coned lanes. Cutting the course is an obvious violation and going outside the
course is a safety issue. Cyclists shall not cross a solid yellow center line for
ANY reason. Cyclists must obey all applicable traffic laws at all times.
7. Unsportsman-Like Conduct: (Penalty:Disqualification)
Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct
directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow
athletes is forbidden. Not thanking at least 10 volunteers is also grounds for
disqualification.
8. Headphones: (Penalty: Variable time penalty)
Headphones, headsets, walkman's, etc. are not to be worn at any time during the
race.
9. Race numbers: (Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number,
Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for
transferring a number without race director permission.)
All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run.
Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not
be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any
other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing.
10. Wetsuits:
Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty
in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water
temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than
78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear
a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a
wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards.
Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.
11. Abandonment: (Penalty: Variable time penalty)
All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on
the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the
course.
12. Bar-end plugs: (Penalty: Disqualification)
Handlebars and stem must be fashioned to prevent any danger. All handlebar
ends must be solidly plugged to lessen the possibility of injury.
