The six-week mark of Challenge 17 is fast approaching and the dates and

times for your mid assessments have been confirmed (see noticeboard).

Getfit is offering a six-week Challenge, starting Friday 28 th June, for anyone

interested in joining the second half of Challenge 17. Participants will attend one,

two or three 1-hour training sessions a week. These sessions are a combination of

cardio and weight training exercises aimed at increasing fitness levels and

improving muscle strength or tone.

All options include your Getfit sessions, two full body assessment, exercise and

meal plans and a T-shirt. We also offer a discounted rate for corporate groups.

Qualified trainers run over 100 sessions a week in Durban North (Mon am/pm, Tues

am/pm, Wed am, Thurs am/pm, Sat am), Gillitts (Mon am/pm, Wed am/pm, Thurs pm, Fri

am), Glenwood (Mon am/pm, Wed am/pm. Fri am), Umhlanga (Mon pm, Tues am, Wed

pm, Fri am) and Westville (Tues am/pm, Thurs pm, Fri am).

Corporate groups of five or more participants will receive a discount (see above)

on their registration fees.

Well done to all the Getfit participants who gave up their

public holiday to attend one of the Getfit sessions that took

place at various venues on 17 th June.

Over 100 people attended sessions in Gillitts and the two

Durban North sessions had to be moved to Crusaders to

accommodate their 90 keen participants, including 60 at

the 8am session (right)!


While the rest of the Getfit participants were enjoying their long weekend break,

twelve of the Getfit trainers and staff took part in a gruelling sixteen-hour

Kettlebell Certified Instructor training course at the Getfit Fitness Centre in

Gillitts on 15 th and 16 th June.

The KBSA Level 1 (Kettlebell Basics – Instructor Level 1) training course is

authorised and recognized by kettlebell guru, Steve Cotter, and the IKFF and

was conducted by Trent Murgatroyd (right), a kettlebell instructor and the IKFF

Regional Representative for Africa.

The course participants were taught the four essential lifts that all beginners

must master before they move on to more advanced techniques, namely:

• swing

• clean

• press (basic/strict)

• snatch

The course was a lot of fun but also very painful with many blistered hands,

bruised wrists and sore bodies!!!

Getfit participants … get ready for some awesome kettlebell training – starting

soon at GETFIT!!



The Getfit Athletic Club continues to grow with the acquisition of

our 70 th member last week!

I am also pleased to confirm that our application for registration

was submitted to KZN Athletics after our AGM earlier this month

and as soon as we receive confirmation that our application has

been approved, we can start production of our race and training


We will shortly be sending a letter out to all members updating

you on training runs, subs, discounted running shoes, etc.

In the meantime, the route for the Club’s fortnightly Time Trial

has been decided. We have mapped out a 4km route (see map

below) which starts and ends at the Club’s headquarters at the

Getfit Fitness Centre in Gillitts. Members wishing to do an 8km

time trial will do the route twice. The first official time trial will

take place on Saturday, 22 nd June @ 7am.

Getfit AC Time Trials and Social Runs

The Club’s first 4km and 8km Time Trials will be from the

Getfit Fitness Centre, Gillitts, on 22 nd June @ 7am. See details

of the route in this week’s Message from the Chairman (left).

The last Social Run had to be moved to Gillitts due to road

closures for the Top Gear festival but we’ll be back at the

beachfront on Saturday, 29 th June. Meet at the Snake Park pier

at 7am.

Spar Ladies Race

The annual Spar Ladies Race will be run on Sunday, 23 rd


The race offers entrants the choice of either a 10km run /walk

(8am start) or a 5km walk (8.30am start).

We’re keen for as many of the Getfit Athletic Club members to

take part as possible. Please wear your Getfit shirts!

also started signing up for the Forest Hills 10km (7 th July), the

Umko Classic (14 th July) and the Total Sports Ladies Race.
