The YMCA believes that we all need

a place to belong. When you become

a member of the YMCA, you will

find programs and activities for every

member of the family. The YMCA offers

memberships to families, as well as great

membership options for individuals,

single-parent families, seniors and youth.

All options feature easy payment plans

and no contracts.

The Citywide option lets members

participate at any YMCA in the Greater

Houston Area. These memberships

include full use of the facility,

complimentary group exercise classes,

reduced fees on programs and more.

The YMCA is a membership organization

and therefore all participants must be

members. You have 2 options in your

membership to the YMCA:

Facility Membership - Designed for those

individuals or families who wish to have

full facility use. A monthly membership

is paid to the YMCA. Facility members

are also eligible for reduced fees on

programs.

Program Membership - Designed for

those who want to participate in

programs or activities but do not have

full facility use. A yearly program

membership fee of $30/family is charged

in addition to the fees of our programs

and is renewable on an annual basis.

Open Doors Scholarship Program - The

YMCA is community-based and believes

that its programs and services should be

available to everyone regardless of age,

background, ability or income. That’s

why the YMCA offers an OPEN DOORS

Healthy Kids Day:

Saturday, April 18

Join us for our 1st Annual Healthy Kids Day

5K Run and Walk. After the run, join us for

fun free festivities celebrating YMCA Healthy

Kids Day from 9am-12pm.

Guest Policy - In order to promote the

best facility to our members, we offer

limited use of the facility by guests.

YMCA Facility Members may bring one

guest per membership (one individual

or one family) at a time to utilize the

YMCA facility. Each guest is limited

to 3 trial visits per calendar year.

Guest use is limited to non-prime time

facility hours.

• Guests are required to sign a waiver

of liability and show a photo ID at

the time of facility usage.

• Guests under the age of 18 must have

a parent or legal guardian present to

sign the waiver of liability. If a parent

or guardian is not present, the

underage guest must be accompanied

by an adult YMCA member (age 18 or

over) who will assume liability by

signing for the parent.

Out-of-Town Guests - If a YMCA Facility

Member has a guest from out-of-town,

the guest may visit the YMCA with the

member for up to 7 days per calendar

year. An “out-of-town guest” is defined

as a visitor not living within the service

area of the YMCA of Greater Houston.

AWAY Members - Always Welcome At

YMCAs, or the AWAY program, is one

that gives YMCA members from outside

of the YMCA of Greater Houston service

area access to the Cypress Creek Family

YMCA facilities when they are away

from their home. AWAY Members are

allowed up to 4 weeks (30 days within

a calendar year) without being charged

a guest fee. Once their 30 days are over,

they may be asked to temporarily join

the Cypress Creek Family YMCA.

Water Exercise Classes - The Cypress

Creek Family YMCA offers over 25 water

exercise classes each week. A variety of

classes (deep and/or shallow water) and

levels available for everyone.

Combo, Twinges in the Hinges or even

Aqua Stretch & Tone class and much

more.

We also offer lap swim workout

(masters), Begin ‘n Swim, Homeschool

PE lap swim workouts, and triathlon

training.

PORPOISE CLUB : Fish Level or Higher:

(Ages 6-13) This class is for anyone

desiring to improve their swimming

skills. This class is intended for those

individuals who can swim at least a 200

yd Individual Medley of front crawl, back

crawl, butterfly, and breaststroke. This

class will teach stroke refinement skills

and open turns. This is for the student

who wants more conditioning and more

of a coach-driven practice.

SWIM LEAGUE: All Levels: (Ages 6-13)

This is a developmental swim league

that will be focusing on developmental

stroke mechanics, training and

introduction to competitive rules. This

league will be using dry land exercises

as well as in-water structured workouts.

Swimmers will be asked to attend at

least 2 meets per season.

BUILDING ON A FOUNDATION

of over 100 years of swim instruction, the YMCA has

established the Y Water Wise water safety initiative.

This initiative has the aggressive goal of “Eliminating”

drownings through water safety education &

awareness, and by teaching swimming skills.

Youth Sports

The YMCA believes that youth sports

programs encourage and promote

healthy and strong kids, families and

communities by placing a priority

on family involvement, healthy

competition rather than rivalry, the

value of participation over winning,

team building as well as individual

development, a positive self-image and

a sense of fair play and mutual respect

for others.

Caring adult coaches and volunteers

create an asset-rich environment in

which children learn and practice the

core values of responsibility, honesty,

respect, faith and caring. Parents are

encouraged to be more than mere

spectators by contributing their time

as volunteer coaches, team parents

and officials as well as being their

kid’s greatest fan. YMCA Youth Sports

programs are a great start to a lifetime

of fitness and values.

Gym ’N Play - Gym ‘N Play is a program

for you and your little one, and an

experience you will never forget. Our

wonderful Gym is a great place to climb,

slide, scoot, parachute, dance, sing and

explore on our exciting play equipment.

Our classes are led by experienced

parent-child instructors and are designed

to promote the parent-child bond while

meeting other moms and dads. There

are 4 different classes to meet the needs

of every age and developmental level.

Dance - (Ages 2-adult) Come join us

in our NEW, state-of-the-art dance

studio (with parent viewing area),

located in the NEW Youth Center. Our

philosophy is to provide children with

the fundamental techniques of dance,

while creating a fun and nurturing

environment. Each child is able to

experience success, gain self-confidence

and most important ... have fun! Ballet,

Tap, Jazz & Hip Hop classes available.

Gymnastics - (Ages 2 & up) Gymnastics

encourages kids to try new things. It

builds strength, flexibility, coordination

and balance. This is a noncompetitive

program that incorporates group warmups

with small group instruction on all

Olympic events: beam, bars, vault and

springboard, and tumbling as well as

some other fun equipment (rock wall,

rings, ropes, etc.)

Students are taught progressions and

will be evaluated for advancement. Our

classes include fun-filled themes and

holiday celebrations.

NEW! Pop Stars - (Ages 8 & up) This is

our newest performing arts class with

a taste of musical theatre. Come learn

how to train your voice to sing popular

top 40 pop music. Hip Hop dance and

routines will be taught in progression.

Students will get the opportunity to

perform at our Spring Recital in May.

Classes will be held in the new Youth Center.

Cheer-Nastics - (Ages 5 & up) This NEW

Cheerleading program will cover many

aspects of cheer, tumble, gymnastics

and dance. Our classes will introduce

beginners to the sport of cheerleading

and teach basic cheers, jumps,

gymnastics, dance, and tumbling moves

in a noncompetitive environment.

Additional fee required for cheer

uniform and recital. Our spring 2009

session starts the week of Jan 5, and will

culminate with our spring recital in May.

The spring session also includes hands-on

cheer experience cheering at two YMCA

events on Saturday mornings.

Registration and classes are held in the

Youth & Teen Programs

NEW! Creative Art - (Ages 3-10) Come

join the fun in our newest program as

we explore the Picasso in your special

someone. Students will follow a theme,

work their fine motor skills, and expand

their listening skills, work in groups

and experiment with crafts, murals,

sculpting, painting, clay, chalk and much

more! 3-year-old students will require

parent participation in class.

Racquetball for Kids - (Ages 9 & up) Kids,

don’t miss this opportunity to play this

really cool game. You will learn basic

rules, shot selection, technique and

much more. Monthly clinics are held on

Saturdays 12:00pm-1:00pm. Instructor

provides racquet and ball, if you don’t

have your own. Safety goggles are

required for participation in class; please

purchase before the first class. Limit 4

per session.

Kids Yoga - (Ages 7-13) Yoga is for kids,

too! Children will learn how to build

strength, flexibility and mind focus.

Beginning poses are introduced in a fun,

creative environment.

Karl S. Baltz, Sr., 3rd-degree Black Belt,

Fee associated with this program.

Developmental Tae Kwon Do - (Ages

4-6) This 40-minute class teaches the

fundamentals and techniques in a

fun, noncompetitive environment. All

students will be at the white belt level

and will progress to our belt testing

system when they turn 7.

Sessions: Run quarterly and start Jan 3,

April 1, July 1 and Oct 1

Classes: Meet once a week on various

days and times.

Babysitting Class - (Ages 11-15)

Class Days/Times: Friday, Jan 30 or

Friday, March 6, 5:00pm-9:00pm

Cost: $25 ($5 nonrefundable fee to the

YMCA when you sign up and reserve

your spot in class, and $20 payable to

Cypress Creek EMS at the time of the

class)

Location: Family Activity Center

Fee includes pizza for a meal break. Space is

limited to 20.

NEW! Y-MUSIC - (Ages 2-10) This

45-minute class will introduce kids to the

world of creative movement and music.

This class combines various movement

activities with singing and the use of

some great musical instruments.

Basic baton twirling techniques will be

taught with drill team style routines and

NEW! Micro Tennis - (Ages 6-11) Micro

Tennis is a recreational program for

youth who are nontournament players

or who have never played tennis before.

It is a form of singles play, but without

traditional serving and scoring.

Teams of 3 players are grouped

according to ability level and age.

Instruction and matches will be played

on short courts at the YMCA’s NEW

Youth Center. With the guidance of

certified USPTA tennis pro Christie Borne

and staff, your child will learn basic

ground strokes and test their skills!

Kids Night Out - Here’s a great

opportunity for the kids to have a fun

night at the YMCA while the parents

have a fun night out.

SNAC Saturday Night At the Creek. All

Parent-Child/Adventure Guides - The

YMCA Adventure Guides program

assists the parent and child on a journey

of discovery. While activities with the

whole family are important, we see

tremendous value in supporting and

strengthening the ability of a father

and his child to communicate at an early

age in ways that are caring, honest,

respectful and responsible.

The Adventure Guide Program does not

have to be for just one parent and child,

but may include the entire family. Typical

activities that the Adventure Guides

take part in include games, crafts, songs,

stories, skits and outdoor pursuits, such

as camping, hiking and swimming. The

program is for school-age children.

Program Components

Father/Son or Father/Daughter pairs are

formed into groups (known as Circles),

based on school and/or neighborhood

proximity. Each Circle selects officers

and proceeds with a year of funfilled

experiences with guidance and

assistance from monthly leadership

meetings held by the YMCA Parent

Child Program Director (known as the

Outfitter).

Circles meet 1-2 nights a month for hourlong

meetings, on nights convenient for

Dads of the Circle. Meetings are typically

rotated between members’ houses and

include various projects and activities.

Monthly Expeditions, such as camping

trips, dances and Pinewood Derby races,

that include all program participants, are

organized through the YMCA.

Youth Strength Training

Older Youth Strength Training - Level 1

(Ages 12-15) Class takes youth through

the proper etiquette, training technique,

and safety in the weight room and

cardio room, and teaches basic exercise

principles, fitness terms, muscle groups,

flexibility and much more.

A study guide/packet will be given

to each participant and a test will be

administered at the end of the 1.5-hour

course to insure that participants grasp

the concept of the responsibility that

comes with working out in our Wellness

Center.

Off Campus PE - (Grades 6-12, minimum

age 12) For those looking to earn their

Public School PE credits through the

YMCA Off-Campus Physical Education

program. Students simply sign up at

the Welcome Center and go through

an orientation with a PE Coach, which

includes fitness assessment, course

outline, and fitness program/schedule

and log-in procedures.

Must meet with their coach 3 times each

semester and participate/work out in

physical fitness activities a minimum of

5 hours per week (which will be logged

into our FitLinxx® system) to earn their

PE grade for the semester. Please sign

up for the spring semester 2009 to start

earning your spring semester PE credit

hours.

Home School PE Lap Swim Workouts

(Ages 8-15) For home school kids who

love to swim and can swim 100 meters

continuously. Improve stroke technique

as well as get a great cardiovascular

exercise workout.

Active Older Adults

We know that older adults are seeking

more than physical benefits when they

begin exercising. They also want a sense

of community and have a desire to

strengthen social ties.

The YMCA has developed several

activities to encourage and motivate

older adults to take action and get

involved. YMCA programs for older

adults strengthen the whole person.

Socializing and volunteering have

positive effects on the health of older

adults, and exercise promotes mental

agility, longevity and good health. With

that in mind, the YMCA offers fitness

programs for older adults such as water

exercise, yoga and tai chi, group exercise

classes and more.

Make new friends at the YMCA as you

join a book club or bridge club, or

attend a luncheon.

Monthly Pot Luck Luncheons - On the

third Wednesday of every month, join us

for some food, fun and fellowship. The

YMCA will provide plates, utensils and

drinks. Participants bring a covered dish

to share. After each luncheon, an activity

is planned. In the spring, we will have a

BBQ cookout and an ice cream social.

Monthly Trips - Once a month the active

older adult group goes on day trips to

various places throughout the Houston

area. Places they have been in the past

include Moody Gardens, Hobby Center,

Bayou Wildlife Park, various museums

and festivals.

Transportation is provided by Harris

County Precinct 4. Precinct 4 rules state

“all individuals on the bus must be at

least 50 years of age.” All trips are an

additional cost and need to be prepaid

at the Welcome Center Desk.

Social Opportunities - Are you interested

in reading books, playing games or

playing bridge. The YMCA Book Club

The YMCA Bridge Club meets every

other Tuesday afternoon. Game Day

takes place every Monday afternoon for

a variety of board games, card games

and puzzles. Ladies may become a

member of the Red Hat Society.

Specialty AOA Classes

• AARP Safe Driving Course - Jan 24-25. This is

open to all ages. An eight-hour course spread over two

consecutive days.

• Beginner conversational foreign language

class(es) are offered throughout the year

• Computer classes are offered in conjunction with

the Barbara Bush Library.

• For various holidays, intergenerational craft

classes are held involving the YMCA’s older adult

members and youth.

• Pickle ball - Classes will be forming in the spring.

• Annual Pet Parade and Senior Prom

• Bake Sale - benefits the Partners Campaign. Will be

held on Feb 23.

There are numerous volunteer opportunities

for those who wish to share their time

Seniorcize - Our most popular AOA class.

An overall workout at a comfortable

pace. In addition to cardiovascular

conditioning and toning, special

emphasis is placed on balance, joint

range of motion and flexibility. Held in

Senior Shape Up - This very popular class

adds more muscle conditioning and core

Mother-Daughter Day - Join us as we

celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with

our 2nd annual “Mother-Daughter

Day” on Saturday, May 9 from 1:00pm

to 4:00pm. This will be a very special

journey with you and your daughter

(ages 9-14).

We all want to spend quality time with

our daughters and want them to grow

up strong and healthy in mind and body,

faith and fitness, so here’s your chance

to pass along “Mother’s Wisdom”!

Spend 3 hours of “just you and me”

time exercising, relaxing, learning some

nutrition tips and praying for each other.

You will experience the following

sessions: “Mother-Daughter Pilates”
