GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS OCD
Issue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010
GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0008
page 162 of 350
○ Reference-qualified state: In this state, the PDGS is built and qualified on the RP. Most
of its external interfaces are simulated or at-least re-localised e.g. for the Sentinel-2A
pre-launch period, the satellite data is simulated for testing purposes. Once referencequalified,
the PDGS is considered ready for being physically deployed;
○ Preliminary-state: In this state, the PDGS is being deployed and integrated in its
operational physical layout i.e. the PDGS is assembled in possibly various distributed
centres hosting the PDGS sub-systems and connected together in their intended
operational form. It is manned so as to support IV&V activities.
○ Qualified state: In this state, all PDGS intended functionality and services can be
demonstrated however using simulated external interfaces. It is manned and operated
so as to support OSV activities within the overall ground-segment.
○ Validated state: In this state, the PDGS is validated vis-à-vis its external interfaces as
much as they can be actual interfaces (e.g. the satellite data was simulated for testing
purposes). The PDGS was qualified through the OSV activity as ready to support preoperations.
It is manned for operational readiness and its configuration is frozen at
ORR;
○ Pre-Operational state: In this state assumed at satellite launch, the PDGS is manned
as required by mission Phase-E1. Some interfaces, in particular the PDGS interfaces
vis-à-vis the data exploitation entities (GSCDA, GSPs, etc) remain simulated for
validation purposes, i.e. without involving the actual end-users;
○ Operational state: In this state, the PDGS is qualified for nominal operations within the
GSC. All services and interfaces are operated nominally according to operational
procedures and manned accordingly. This state extends beyond spacecraft end-of-life
to continue serving past accumulated data.
4.6.2.2 System Configurations
The PDGS will assume several configurations along time. The configuration of the PDGS
includes the hardware and software (e.g. software version of the functional sub-systems
installed), system configuration elements (e.g. configuration files) as well as infrastructure
sub-systems such as network links.
Two specific configurations of the PDGS will co-exist:
○ The Deployed-configuration, corresponding to the actual configuration of the PDGS in
its deployed physical layout;
○ The Reference-configuration, aiming at reproducing as precisely as possible the
behaviour of the Deployed-configuration on the RP instance system for system
corrective maintenance purposes;
In addition, one or several Development-configuration may be maintained temporarily as
being “working” or “beta” version of the PDGS and candidate for being finalised or qualified.
Finally, several Deprecated-configurations will be maintained for historical reference, as
corresponding to previously Deployed or Reference configurations that have then been
superseded by new ones.
