INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL - BUDAPEST
2010/2011

“From a school that I founded as the first private higher education
college in Central Europe nearly 20 years ago, IBS - Budapest has
grown into a great business school. It is an attractive place both to
learn and teach because of our collaborative culture – a blend of
academic rigor, cooperative teamwork, entrepreneurship, diversity
and continuous innovation. The academic experience we offer
provides our students from over 70 countries of the world not only
with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, but skills and
networking opportunities that bring lifelong competitive advantages.
IBS offers joint degree programmes with Oxford Brookes University,
one of the best modern universities of Great Britain. This long-standing
strategic alliance has helped us to develop flexible, practice-oriented
curricula with a global perspective that nourishes creative thinking,
sharp intellect and inter-cultural understanding.
Our home, Budapest, is a rapidly developing, exciting city where
historical tradition, modern business and entrepreneurship combine
to provide an invigorating atmosphere for life, work and study. I invite
you to visit our web site, and more importantly, to visit us personally,
so you can learn more about our institution first-hand and get a sense
of how friendly, exciting and motivating this place really is.”
Prof. TAMÁS István Ph.D.
Founder and Chancellor of IBS
Students from Moscow, Russia have travelled
1569 km to study at IBS.
CHANCELLOR’S WELCOME
IBS - a lifelong competitive advantage.
Professor István Tamás is the Chancellor of International
Business School. He is justifiably recognised as one of
Hungary’s most successful businessmen, entrepreneurs and
philanthropists. After studying electrical engineering at the
Moscow University of Building and Construction, he attended
the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and was
awarded an MA degree in Economics. In 1997 he acquired
a PhD at Newport University, USA. His dissertation “Capital
Transformation and Privatization in Hungary” was published
by Vantage Press Inc, New York. Having gained experience
working for major corporate actors, he founded his own
company that became one of the leading agents during the
Hungarian transition and privatisation. He served as President
& CEO of this company for a number of years. After his
period of success in business life, he founded a college with
the objective to give Hungary’s young people the most up-todate
and practical business knowledge and skills:
International Business School.
Prof. UPTON Graham,
Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University
gives Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education
to Prof. TAMÁS István in 1999.

LOCATION
Budapest, a city with rich historic past and a
wealth of entertainment possibilities.
Budapest, situated right in the heart of Europe along the two banks
of the River Danube, is a lively, friendly city with a continental climate.
It has succeeded in adapting to the modern world while preserving
its rich historic past.
The city offers a wealth of entertainment and cultural activities,
museums, concerts, theatres, opera as well as discos, jazz clubs,
elegant shops and good food. An excellent inexpensive public
transport system of buses, trolley buses, trams and underground lines
extends all across the city.
Entertainment
Budapest is a city famed for its nightlife as well. There are hundreds
of music pubs, bars, and cafes open around the clock. There are also
plenty of other ideas for a fun night out, ranging from theatres and
jazz venues to casinos and rock/pop events.
For those after a dose of culture, a visit to the city's majestic State
Opera House, the brand new National Theatre or the concert hall of
the Palace of Arts makes for an unforgettable evening.
If you are up for a great relaxation, you may want to visit some of
Budapest’s world famous thermal baths, such as Gellért Spa,
Széchenyi Thermal Bath or Rudas Bath.
There is a great variety of museums as well. The Budapest History
Students from Beijing, China have travelled
7354 km to study at IBS.
.Budapest
Museum in the Castle, the Hungarian National Gallery, the
Hungarian National Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts are just a
few of the museums that offer a great journey into Hungary’s past
and present.
Budapest Events
Throughout the year you will have plenty of opportunities to participate
in exciting events. Budapest Spring Festival, Bridge Festival and
Danube Water Carnival, Budafest, Sziget Festival, Wine Fair,
Budapest Autumn Festival, Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, and
Budapest Christmas Fair are just a few examples of the countless
events in town.
Sightseeing in Budapest
Budapest is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cities of the
world. There are plenty of attractions that you should not miss; some
of them are part of the world heritage: Lánchíd - Chain Bridge was
opened in 1849 and was then the first permanent bridge across the
Danube. The Parliament was constructed between 1884 and 1902
and was then the largest Parliament building in the world. Buda
Castle was the residence of the Hungarian kings for about 700 years.
Fishermen's Bastion, St. Stephen's Basilica, Gellért Hill, Heroes’
Square are just some of the other tourist attractions that you should visit
while you are in Budapest.

Attractive study
programmes
Being a private college, IBS quickly adapts
to the needs of a constantly changing international
market and modifies its academic
programmes accordingly. In close co-operation
with our strategic partner in Oxford and
other European partners we produce flexible
and motivated business people who
perform efficiently and think flexibly in the
challenging environment of global business.
International
environment
International experts, guest professors from
Oxford, and students from all over Europe,
Central- and South America, Asia and
Africa make IBS an attractive venue for
cultural interaction and networking. Through
our exchange programmes, IBS students can
study in more than 80 partner institutions in
over 20 European countries. They will be
hosted by the best business schools in some
of the most exciting cities of the world for at
least one semester during their studies at IBS. Nearly
50 specially trained, “handpicked” language
teachers at IBS guarantee that our students acquire
the basic language skills as well as the highly
specialised language of business, academic writing
and negotiations.
British degrees
Our students study for Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees conferred by the prestigious Oxford Brookes
University. These degrees will open up doors for IBS
graduates in the labour markets of Great Britain, the
European Union and the world at large.
REASONS FOR CHOOSING IBS
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees conferred by
the prestigious Oxford Brookes University.
Students from Abuja, Nigeria have
travelled 4396 km to study at IBS.
Team work and skills
development
The businessperson of the future will have to
function both as a team leader and as a
team member. For this reason, a significant
part of professional practice is done in small
groups. This helps students to improve their
abilities in communication, understand
different viewpoints, manage conflicts and
master leadership. The development of
personal skills and competencies has
become the focus of business education
worldwide as it has been for a long time at
IBS.
Thrilling student life
IBS is not only a place for studying. It is also
home to several cultural and sports facilities.
IBS Student Stage is a popular theatre open
to the public as well as IBS students. The IBS
Café and the campus garden are pleasant
venues where students and teachers can
relax. Those who wish to exercise not only
their mind, but also their body can visit the
IBS Fitness for work-out, aerobics, tennis,
sauna solarium and massage.
Residence Hall
A fully refurbished Residence Hall located
right next to the school’s main building
awaits our international students with wellequipped
comfortable en suite rooms. All
rooms (single or shared) have a spectacular
park view and contain every modern
amenity: bathroom, internet connection, TV,
refrigerator, balcony.

OUR STUDENTS’ OPINION
BIALKO Uladzimir, Belarus
“After a year of studies at a Belarusian university I
realised that my education lacked international exposure.
I decided to study abroad and IBS was one of
the immediate options. I chose this school due to its
status as one of the first private business schools in
the region, whose degrees are validated by Oxford
Brookes. The other advantage is the lecturers and
seminar leaders who possess hands-on experience of
the subjects they teach. Students acquire an additional
edge on the job market, because they graduate
with minimum of one year of work experience.”
IBRAHIM Fatima, Nigeria
“Coming to IBS was a difficult choice to make, but
after one year of studies I can say that it was a
reasonable and thoughtful decision since here the
academic environment is perfectly combined with a
friendly, international atmosphere. In addition to this,
IBS offers the great opportunity of studying abroad.
This first year was a good start for me in the business
field and I’m sure that by the time I graduate I’ll have
all the knowledge and experience needed for a
successful career.”
CHIRITA Alexandra, Romania
“It seemed to be easy to choose IBS. But it was
harder to cope with all the further worries. And you
know what? All the worries were pointless. The very
first week showed that IBS has to provide what a
student may need: experienced teachers, friendly
staff, interesting lectures/topics, and a perfect international
atmosphere. The University also offers a
chance to study abroad as an exchange student.
And, thanks to the placement year, you get your
diploma together with working experience, which is
highly appreciated.”
Students from Astana, Kazakhstan have
travelled 3744 km to study at IBS.
Students from all over the world.
CHOLNOKY Zsuzsa, Hungary
“My aim in applying to IBS was to acquire pragmatic
knowledge. Aside from the academic knowledge, the
school puts great emphasis on the acquisition of those
skills which are indispensable in the very real world
of business. Furthermore, IBS provides a great environment
to meet with fellow students and professors,
creating a colourful atmosphere to study and to have
fun. Next semester I have been given the opportunity
to study in England with the Erasmus programme,
which is open to every student. I can surely say that
IBS has exceeded my expectations in all ways.”
NGUYEN Vu, Vietnam
“I chose IBS because of the British degree and its
multicultural environment. In terms of support I have
experienced guidance from members of all staff. This
is absolutely crucial, especially for international
students who have come to study here. This diversity
in the student population is another distinguishing
factor for IBS. It requires students to learn and grow
in an environment, to gain international experience
which is also very useful in today's business world. I
believe that opting for IBS was the right decision for
me and I very much enjoy being part of it.”
HAKKI Özdes Ahmet, Turkey
“IBS is the place of opportunities: friendly environment,
great connections in terms of future plans and
the beautiful city of Budapest. The school gives the
flavour of all these once you start living the IBS life. A
broad view of experience with the help of Oxford
Brookes is all that you may expect from IBS.A mixture
of Hungarian and international students gives the best
opportunity to understand different cultures and meet
new people. Words are not enough to describe all
the good things you get from the school and also from
the city of Budapest. The best way to experience all
this joy is to join IBS.”

Living and studying in the capital city of Hungary, a member of
the European Union since 2004, is an experience you should not
miss. Relatively low living costs and the hospitality of the people
will allow you to take maximum advantage of the vibrant lifestyle
and variety of events Budapest has to offer to its international
students.
Affordable living costs
Unforgettable experience abroad.
By receiving 500 foreign students from more than 70 countries IBS creates a lively, diverse, multilingual and multicultural study
environment for all of its students. Students can improve their language skills not only in the classroom but also in everyday
communication in the canteen or in the corridors; furthermore, they have the opportunity to learn about other cultures and to practice
mutual respect and tolerance towards other people. Every student of IBS has the opportunity to spend one semester at one of our partner
schools in Europe. Our Erasmus partner institutes are among the best business colleges and universities in the European Union. Our
A key success factor for IBS is the preparation of its students for a
competitive employment market. It is our aim to empower our students
with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they can easily
integrate themselves into the corporate
world. IBS’ Business Network
Centre aims to continuously maintain,
strengthen and further develop
its corporate network, involve the
business world in our education
and get our students and faculty
involved in the business world.
At Bachelor level the placement
year is an integral part of our educational
programme. In the second year students will be prepared
for the internship, while in the fourth year they can synthesise their
practical experience with their classroom studies.
During the placement year students can put into practice what they
learned in the first two years, can acquire hands-on practical work experience
and can synthesise academic knowledge with practice. The
SERVICES OF OUR CAREER OFFICE
Our main strength: the success of our graduates.
“The present trainee system of Porsche Hungaria was
developed 2 years ago. 90 % of the students getting the
opportunity to work in different fields have been selected
from among IBS students. The reasons for this are
manifold: IBS is the only institution in higher education
which requires a trainee period of 11 to 12 months.
This framework is very advantageous for us because
after proper training the different departments can entrust
actual professional tasks to the students, and involve
them in work processes, which the students could otherwise
perform only after graduation. Most IBS students
are open and proactive who aim at acquiring practical
knowledge.
Having spent a trainee year at Porsche Hungaria, IBS
students start their career with a considerable advantage
on the labour market and they may have a good
chance to fill the vacancies arising at our company as
well.”
KISS Csaba
HR Director, Porsche Hungaria
Students from Cairo, Egypt have travelled
2200 km to study at IBS.
“Morgan Stanley has already hired several IBS graduates
into its Finance and Operations divisions and we
hope to expand and strengthen our relationship with
IBS. We are always looking for graduates who have a
combination of strong English language skills, problem
solving aptitude, and a drive to succeed. We value
pragmatism and focus in our employees and these are
qualities that IBS encourages in its students.”
WATSON Antonia,
General Manager, Morgan Stanley Hungary
results of a recent career path analysis among our former students
show that 60% of the fresh graduates took up their first jobs within the
same company where they spent their placement.
IBS’ Business Network Centre does its utmost to further expand the network
of companies offering placement jobs for our students. Besides
the local network, there is a growing interest for finding placement
possibilities abroad. In addition, IBS has joined the network of some
European intermediary organisations, which assist students in finding
placement opportunities internationally.
Our students enter the job market
with many advantages. Hands-on
practical experience and corporate
skills are ranked by most international
companies as the most important
factors considered when
hiring new people. IBS’ students do
acquire this sought-for level of skills
and experience. This is why 93%
of our fresh graduates find a job
within 6 months after graduation.
Our Alumni are ambassadors of our School in the business world.
Hundreds of our former students are registered in our Alumni database
and we are in permanent contact with them. We are also working
together with Oxford Brookes University in developing joint alumni
programmes. Those graduating on our programmes will be
automatically members of OBU Alumni as well.

Students from Minsk, Belarus have
IBS regularly conducts career path analyses among its
graduates. All recent surveys show that the vast majority
of IBS students find a job in a responsible managerial
position in less than 3 months after graduation with an
average gross monthly salary of half a million HUF (triple
of the Hungarian average salary).
The excellent employment prospects are largely due to IBS’
system of Placement Year (11 months of work in the third
year) as appr. 60% of students remain with their placement
companies and complete their final year of studies beside
keeping their work. The fact that most companies choose
to continue employing IBS students indicates a high level
of satisfaction with their performance.
Each year Trendence, a leading research institute in
Europe, conducts an extensive survey of European students
on their preferences and expectations in their future career,
their satisfaction with their university, and the attractiveness
to future employers.
According to the 2009 European Student Barometer
survey, 80% of IBS students believe that IBS equips them
with all skills and knowledge necessary for a successful
career and are satisfied with the assistance of our Business
Network Centre in career planning, whereas only 55% of
Hungarian and European students share the same opinion
of their school. In fact, IBS students are the most pleased
with their institution in the whole of Europe.
The experience of the placement year, the highly
advanced English language skills, the hands-on approach
of all programmes and the international degree offer IBS
graduates an undisputable competitive advantage on the
4. YEAR
All IBS students (with the exception of Arts Management students) start their studies on what
we at IBS call ’Common First Year’. The main purpose of the Common First Year, similarly
to the first year of all business trainings, is to introduce students to the world of business,
familiarise them with basic business terms, concepts and means of analysis, and prepare
them for their further studies. During the Common First Year our intention is
• not only to provide theoretical foundations, but right from the start offer a practice-oriented
approach to prepare students for the real world of work.
• to make students participate actively in the learning process rather than being passive
listeners only. One way of achieving this is to do a lot of interactive group work - a
method which has always characterized IBS teaching. Another way is increasing
students’ awareness by determining and focusing on their study and career goals.
• not only to expect high-level academic performance from students, but also develop
those skills that are necessary to achieve it. It is a competitive advantage not only at IBS
but at work as well if someone is able to quickly and efficiently gather, evaluate and
process information, express her/himself in a clear and informative manner and apply
suitable communication and presentation techniques.
• to make sure that students not only come to IBS because they have classes to attend,
but enjoy their time spent in this special, multicultural environment.
MSC IN MARKETING MANAGEMENT

BA in Business Studies
The BA in Business Studies (BABS) programme enables students to
analyse, evaluate, plan and implement business processes effectively
and thus engage in the world of business successfully.
Core modules of the first two years offer students an introduction into
IT, the quantitative methodology of business, economics, finance and
marketing, familiarise students with the legal and the international
environment, and foster personal development through a range of
skills modules in the areas of communication, presentation, time and
conflict management, and others.
In their final year, students study general and strategic management
modules that build on the experience they have accumulated during
Placement. In addition, they have to choose several optional modules
that suit their individual interest. Options include modules related to
marketing, human resources management and logistics. To complete
this programme students have to either submit a dissertation and pass
the final examination or write up a project and pass the defence
related to this project work.
Students from Brasilia, Brazil have travelled
9653 km to study at IBS.
UNDERGRADUATE OFFERS
Placement, as work-based learning, is an integral
part of all curricula.
OJORDUMI Ejiofoh, Nigeria
“I chose IBS on recommendation of
a family member and what a good
choice I made. My 4 years at IBS
has been a period of great benefits
both from an academic and social
point of view. The academic
standards at IBS are first class,
challenging and bring the best out
of you, and fellow students are helpful, cooperative and come
from a wide international background. Courses offered in IBS
prepare students for both the practical and theoretical application
of the knowledge learnt. This helps students to adapt to the
ever changing real world of business. Its 1-year placement
programme gives students the opportunity of implementing the
knowledge learnt at school. I find this as a key benefit of
attending IBS. Finally the entire environment at IBS is
comfortable and conducive for learning and its teachers are
highly qualified, open minded and focused on students’ career
development. I am truly proud to be a part of the IBS family.”

UNDERGRADUATE OFFERS
BA in International Business
Relations
The BA in International Business Relations (BAIBR) programme trains
professionals for the international business arena where they can
apply the broad knowledge they have acquired and the skills and
competences they have developed for actively pursuing and fostering
international relations in fields such as global corporate operations,
export promotion, foreign direct investment and interstate cooperation.
Core modules of the first two years offer an introduction into IT and
economics, and cover the basics of finance, the quantitative
methodology of business. In addition, they provide deep insight into
the theories and practice of international relations, world regional
geography and history. Personal development is fostered through a
range of skills modules in the areas of communication, presentation,
time and conflict management, and others.
In their final year, students study general international
relations modules that build on the experience
they have accumulated during Placement. In
addition, they have to choose from a wide selection
of optional modules that enrich their worldview
and deepen their professional knowledge.
Completing the programme requires writing a
dissertation or project work (with tutorial support)
and passing the defence of this last piece of
work. A “B2” level language certificate in a
second language (German, French or Spanish) is
required for graduation. IBS will specially focus
on the teaching of second languages and will
guarantee 8 hours a week of language classes to
all BAIBR students.
Students from Berlin, Germany have travelled
690 km to study at IBS.
Lecturers with hands-on experience.
BA in Finance and Accounting
The BA in Finance and Accounting (BAFIN) programme enables
students to analyse, evaluate, plan and implement processes
effectively in the area of corporate finance, banking and investment.
Core modules of the first
two years equip
students with basic conceptual
and methodological
tools in business
and finance, law and
economics, offer introduction
into accounting
and finance and provide
more specialised,
ready-to-use knowledge
in corporate finance
and financial accounting. Special emphasis is laid on fostering personal
development through a range of skills modules in the areas of
communication, presentation, time and conflict management, and
others.
In the final year of study, some core modules build on previous paths
such as corporate valuation, controlling, financial markets, business
planning whereas others explore new areas such as public finance
and the insurance business. In addition, students have to choose
options to suit their individual interest.
To graduate from this programme, students have to either write a
dissertation and pass the final examination or write up a project and
pass the defence related to this project work.
LUKIANOVA ANASTASIA, RUSSIA
“After graduating from high school I was not quite sure
where to continue my studies: here in Hungary, were I have
lived for 17 years, or go back to Russia. But I received
positive feedback from my friends, who have studied here
and I said “Why not?” And I have not regretted it. The
second year of my studies showed that having graduated
from IBS you can become not only an economist or a
banker, but also a specialist in Marketing, Human Resource
Management and even Tourism Management or Arts Management. So it is not
only the basic economic knowledge I can get, but also subjects for pleasure.
Furthermore, the experiences I will receive during my Placement year are no doubt
a superb start for my career afterwards.”

BA in Travel & Tourism
Management
The BA in Travel & Tourism Management (BATTM) programme aims
to train business professionals in the essential skills required to create
and manage viable travel and tourism enterprises, direct local,
regional and national tourism development and operate in specific
sectors of this high-growth industry.
Core modules of the first two years equip students with the necessary
foundations and basic conceptual and methodological tools in
business, IT, law and finance.
The specifics of the tourism industry are explored according to the
4A’s concept, which means developing an understanding of travel
and tourism Attractions, Access, Accommodation and Attitudes.
Special emphasis is laid on fostering personal development through
a range of skills modules in the areas of communication, presentation,
time and conflict management, and others.
MANCELLARI INA, ALBANIA
“I wanted to study in a school that
values real world, practical teaching
rather than theoretical studies, as this
is not typical of universities in the East
European educational system. IBS
exceeded my expectations in this
aspect. It is a really progressive
business school. We do a lot of teamwork,
project works, researches,
which always taught me how to put theory into practice. I value
a lot that we have the opportunity during our placement year
to get practical work experience prior to graduation. This will
become a huge benefit when looking for a job after finishing
the school. The classes are demanding, but the teachers are
very encouraging and willing to assist students. Another thing
that I find unique about IBS is the diverse and interesting student
population. There are international students from many different
places. Maybe due to this multi-cultural environment, the IBS
atmosphere is very open-minded and friendly, which makes it
incredibly easy to interact with people from all different backgrounds
and lifestyles. Thanks to this experience, I have a much
more developed worldview. I am very satisfied with my
decision to come to IBS and I believe that the knowledge and
academic skills I gained here will be very useful in my future”.
Students from Tbilisi, Georgia have travelled
2127 km to study at IBS.
The modules in the final year of study build on previous paths and
provide further opportunities to develop an in-depth understanding of
current issues in the tourism industry. In addition, students have to
choose several optional modules to suit their individual interests. Topics
include modules related to spas and water parks, cultural tourism and
hospitality & accommodation.
Completing the programme requires writing a dissertation or project
work (with tutorial support) and passing the defence of the latter. Passing
the “English for Tourism” LCCI Intermediate exam is an independent
requirement, and a “B2” level language certificate in a second
language (German, French or Spanish) is required for graduation.
IBS will specially focus on the teaching of second languages and will
guarantee 8 hours a week of language classes to all BATTM students.

UNDERGRADUATE OFFERS
BA in Arts Management
The BA in Arts Management (BAAM) programme trains professionals
for the high-growth international creative industries. High impact
business practices have been integrated into a hands-on programme
with the aim of enabling students to successfully engage in the
professional management of arts and artists, cultural and creative
enterprises and events.
During the first two years of study, the compulsory modules provide a
general background to and understanding of both the business and
art worlds. The project management and human resource
management modules directly relate to the complex processes that a
professional in the field uses to set up, maintain and motivate work
forces in the creative industries. Students will also be introduced to
the basic tools of working in a creative, artistic environment. Specially
Students from Tehran, Iran have travelled
2970 km to study at IBS.
Our special programme:
integrating arts and business.
developed modules provide the foundations of viewing and understanding
arts in the contexts of historical trends, aesthetics and
business as well as of the various infrastructures of art management
including non-profit, governmental and private organisations – all from
an international perspective.
Moreover, students will also be directly involved in the creation of
artistic objects (photographic, drawn, 3-dimensional and digital) with
the aim of familiarising them with the complexity of creative processes.
Special emphasis is laid also on fostering personal development
through a range of skills modules in the areas of communication,
presentation, time and conflict management, and others.
In their final year, students study strategic management and advanced
art-related modules that build on the experience they have accumu-
lated during Placement. In addition, they have to choose several
optional modules to suit their individual interests. These include
modules related to media production, gallery, auction & appraisal
and events coordination. Completing
the programme requires writing
a dissertation or project work
(with tutorial support) and passing
the defence of this last piece of
work.
IBS’s BA in Arts Management programme
Teaching and Learning on IBS
MSc Programmes
The teaching methods are student centred. All modules involve coursework,
and the delivery of materials takes a variety of forms reflecting
the aims of the module: formal lectures, discussions, simulations,
presentations by experts and practising managers, individual and
group presentation of analysis, problem solving, findings and recommendations;
case studies, guided readings and guidance on key
sources of reference material; research via the Internet and various
databases. Due consideration is given to the different cultural and
educational backgrounds. Feedback and guidance are also important
elements complementing an emphasis on self-study.
Assessment methods are
designed to support the
teaching and learning
process and will test the
application of the acquired
knowledge and
skills in different work
situations. We use
different methods to
assess the understanding
of concepts, theories,
academic models
and the students’ ability
to analyse business situations
from a critical
perspective: students are
required to prepare
assignments during classes or at home, perform presentations, take
examinations, etc.
All our MSc programmes benefit from our rigorous quality assurance
procedures and regularly receive excellent feedback from external
examiners, employers, students and professional bodies.

Intensive English Language
Programme (IELP)
The Intensive English Language Programme (IELP) has been run
successfully for many years now at IBS. Its primary objective is to
prepare students for continuing their studies in English at the higher
educational level. It is therefore first and foremost recommended for
those who eventually wish to obtain a degree from International
Business School and whose English does not yet reach the entry level
required for BA or MSc programmes. But it is also ideal for those who
simply want to improve their English for various purposes.
The programme includes the teaching of 600 hours of English per
academic year. All our language teachers are highly qualified and
have substantial experience in teaching. The programme also offers
the unique opportunity of learning 6 hours of Business English per
week at all levels. Students are grouped according to their present
level of English, the levels ranging from Beginner to Upper-Intermediate
/ Advanced.
Besides the language modules, IBS offers the following extra
opportunities to course participants:
• At the end of the programme students who work hard and achieve
good results throughout the year may take the LCCI (London
Chamber of Commerce and Industry) Intermediate Language
Exam free of charge at the school.
• We provide students with quarterly Progress Reports (informing
students about their absences, academic achievement etc.)
Those IELP students who
comply with the relevant
requirements receive a certificate
of completion of the
course and may continue
their studies in the first year of
a BA or MSc programme of
IBS.
CAMPUS, STUDENT LIFE
Students from Tel-Aviv, Israel have travelled
2168 km to study at IBS.
Sports, social activities and
many other colourful programmes.
The crux of IBS philosophy is to foster both the
intellectual and cultural development of our
students as well as to create suitable conditions
for their physical exercise and healthy nourishment
as part of our lifestyle programme.
IBS Fitness offers several sports facilities to both
students and teachers. A well-equipped gym can
be found in the basement of the school, which
offers a wide range of work-out facilities with
professional help available from qualified
trainers. In addition, our guests can choose
between different aerobic lessons (e.g. bodyshaping,
fat-burning, step, trambi-jump, kick-box
etc) held parallel in two rooms.
Tennis can be played throughout the year, in
green and quiet surroundings: two tennis-courts
are available that are covered during the winter
period. After exercising, sauna, solarium and
massage are also at our guests’ service and
refreshing drinks and food-supplements can also
be purchased at the reception of the Fitness.
Before starting the academic year, students
organise the Freshmen’s Camp. During the three
days the freshmen have the opportunity to make
friends with each other by participating in sports
programmes, games, competitions, funny
performances, and they will also get useful
advice from older students.
The Freshmen’s Ball is the most significant social
event of the first year. Students open the evening
with a festive waltz, then the dance continues into
the early morning hours.
Association with IBS does not finish with graduation.
Alumni regularly come back to the school to
attend the IBS Alumni Evenings and other events.

Students from Amman, Jordan have
travelled 2241 km to study at IBS.
World of Education through Eduniversal. IBS have been selected by
Each year Trendence, a leading research institute in Europe, conducts
an extensive survey of European students on their preferences and
expectations in their future career, their satisfaction with their university,
and the attractiveness of future employers.
According to the 2009 European Student Barometer survey IBS
students are the most satisfied with their school in the whole of Europe
(France, Switzerland and Great-Britain were not included in the
survey). The three most important factors in choosing a programme for
IBS students were the quality of the programmes, the international
orientation of the school, and the school’s reputation among
employers. 88% of IBS students appreciated the hands-on approach
of IBS programmes in contrast to only 50% of international and
Hungarian students asked in the survey. For an IBS student it takes
2.7 months on average to find a first position compared to 4.2
months for an European student.
o Bed-linen, sheets, duvet covers and laundry are provided
o Maintenance
(3) RENTAL PERIODS
The type of housing duration you choose will depend on your personal preferences and
the length of your study period at IBS.
The normal one-semester contract period is five months running from September 1 through
January 31 the following year (autumn period) or February 1 through June 30 (same
year) (spring period).
The normal two-semester contract period is ten months running from September 1 through
June 30, the following year.
In the summer period, a one-month contract extension from July 1 through July 31 is possible
provided that you had a lease in the Spring Semester.
Contracts of different duration are possible only upon special request, and require the permission
of the Residence Hall Director.
In August, the Residence is closed for cleaning and renovation.
(4) TERMINATION AND BREACH OF CONTRACT
Termination of your 5- or 10- or 11-month housing contract either at the beginning or during
the semester or year is normally not possible and thus all requests for such action will
be refused by IBS.
(a) Valid reasons for Termination of Contract by the Student
The only valid reasons for termination of the contract, recognisable by IBS during the
contract period are:
o serious illness, requiring hospitalization or long recuperation,
o any unexpected circumstance beyond your control which requires you to leave IBS for
good.
In order to terminate the housing contract the Student must submit a Letter of Termination
sent from your IBS e-mail address to residencehall@ibs-b.hu specifying the Termination
Date. Any reasons given must be fully substantiated by documents issued by a proper authority.
IBS reserves the right to approve the Termination and to investigate the validity of
the documents presented.
Termination of contract for valid reasons attracts a refund of the rental fee for any months
paid but not started. A month counts as “month started” on or after its 5th calendar day.
For purposes of calculation of refunds the Termination Date counts, on condition that the
Termination is approved by IBS and that the room is properly vacated by the Termination
Date.
(b) Valid reasons for Termination of Contract by IBS
IBS will terminate the Contract in the following cases:
o suspension or expulsion from IBS for disciplinary reasons
o expulsion from IBS Residence Hall for non-compliance with Regulations
o failure to pay the Rental Fee
Suspension or expulsion from IBS or IBS Residence Hall on disciplinary grounds counts
as Breach of Contract. In this case the Student is not entitled to a refund of any part of
the rental fees paid, and any instalments still owed for the contract period must be paid.
(c) Valid Reasons for Modification of Housing Contract
RESIDENCE HALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Students from Kiev, Ukraine have travelled
897 km to study at IBS.
o From the first day of housing duration, within the first 30 days ( till 1 October) Student
may request to modify the length of Contract from 5 months to 10 months by submitting
a written declaration. The rental fee for the first month will be equivalent with the rental
fee for the 5-month housing contract and for the remaining period the10-month housing
contract rental fee must be paid.
o At any time during the housing contract Student may request the modification of the type
of the Contract (from single to shared occupancy or reverse) by submitting a written
declaration. The rate and date of the modification of the rental fee will be appointed by
the Director of Residence Hall.
The approval of the request of Modification of Housing Contract is not automatic, it is the
consideration of Residence Hall Director in all cases, the Student has no right to appeal
against the decision.
The fee of Modification of Housing Contract is 100.
(5) TABLE OF RENTAL FEES
See on Residence Hall page!
(6) CONSEQUENCES OF NON-PAYMENT
Paying the Security Deposit and Instalment 1 are prerequisites for moving in IBS Residence
Hall. Students failing to pay the deposit or/and the rental fee shall not be allowed to
reside. Students failing to pay the rental fee by due date must pay interest of delay and
face ultimate consequences of Termination of Contract by IBS according to point (4(b)),
however this will not clear the student’s contractual debt. Any students with a debt to IBS
or IBS Residence Hall, including rental fees, will be denied the opportunity to register for
examinations and/or modules until all debts are cleared.
(7) SECURITY DEPOSIT
Students must pay a one-off deposit which guarantees the room reservation and also
serves as a cover for damages caused by students to room and furnishings as well as for
fines charged for any failure to comply with Residence Hall Rules and Regulations. The
deposit cannot in any circumstance be used to pay any part of the rental fees.
The deposit (subject to deductions; cf. Section 11. of Rules and Regulations) will be
returned by bank transfer after the student has left IBS Residence Hall for good. The cost
of transaction ( 10-15) will be deducted from the deposit.
Should the total value of damage, combined with the total value of fines charged against
the Security Deposit exceed the Security Deposit previously paid, the Student will be
charged the difference between the Security Deposit and the actual repair and replacement
costs and/or fines, and will be automatically expelled from the Residence Hall,
with the consequences of Termination of Contract by IBS as described in Section (4/b).
Security Deposit per student: 380
Should any deductions cause the deposit to drop below 380 in 5 months the Student
must pay the difference before the start of the following 5-month period (by 1 September
or 1 February) so that the next period (spring or autumn) starts with the 380 deposit fully
available.
1-month summer extension: the deposit you paid for the Spring semester will serve for the
extension period
(8) RESERVATION
You can reserve a room by completing the respective Housing Contract and by
transferring the Security Deposit by August 15 (for the spring semester, January 15) at the
latest. If you change your mind after having reserved a room at IBS Residence Hall, you
may cancel the reservation in writing prior to moving in. If cancellation has been duly
received prior to July 31 (December 31), the security deposit will be returned. In case of
a cancellation on or after August 1 (January 1), a 50% processing fee will be withheld
from your Security Deposit.
(9) MODE OF PAYMENT
Security Deposits and Rental Fees must be paid in Euros by bank transfer to the following
bank account:
