BARTEK MATERKA
born 1973 in Gdańsk, studied at the Painting Department of Fine Arts
Academy in Kraków (diploma in 2004). Lives and works in Kraków.
Bartek Materka debuted in 2004 with an exhibition at Raster gallery.
His artistic eye is particularly sensitive to the visual adventures of
everyday life, more specifically - he focuses his analysis on the visual
perception apparatus as such and tracks influences left upon it
by modern optical as well as image-generating technologies (digital
imagery, television, microscopic vision, ASCII). Technical regularity
is, however, susceptible to interference from the real life emotions
that distort and bring static into his images, causing colors to overflow,
perspectives either to diverge or overlap right in the center of
perception. To be deciphered they demanded attainable by means
of readiness to change one’s standing point, and slide into another
possible perspective – that is, if making sense of it all is what you
seek.
