Judy Maguire of <strong>Idyllwild</strong> was the<br />
fourth overall female and won her<br />
age group (50-55) in the Saddleback<br />
Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 7.<br />
Billed as “the toughest trail marathon<br />
in California,” the Saddleback<br />
Marathon is located in the Cleveland<br />
National Forest and has a 5,000-<br />
foot elevation gain. Maguire, who<br />
improved on her last year’s time<br />
by 11 minutes, said the race was “a<br />
piece of cake for a runner living and<br />
training in <strong>Idyllwild</strong>” ...<br />
<strong>Town</strong> Hall Soccer<br />

Soccer playoffs<br />
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Higher<br />
Grounds Purple Thunder battled<br />
the American Legion Green Machine.<br />
The game remained scoreless<br />
through regulation time. They had to<br />
go to a shoot-out as both teams had<br />
to select five players for penalty kicks.<br />
Benjamin Tiso made the final shot<br />
for the Purple Thunder<br />
to win the contest.<br />
In the second game,<br />

played the Rotary Silver<br />
Knights. It was a very<br />
tight game. Maggie Mc-<br />

Knights kept the score<br />
close with good goal<br />
tending, but it wasn’t<br />
quite enough as Alia<br />
Teeguarden and Jake<br />
Mabery scored for the<br />
Hawks as they squeaked<br />

played the Silver<br />
Knights. The game was<br />

The Friends of the<br />
<strong>Idyllwild</strong> Library is<br />
seeking holiday donations<br />
of DVDs. Many<br />
people have DVDs in<br />
their homes they will<br />
not view again which<br />
can be donated to the<br />
library for the enjoyment<br />
of many.<br />
All types of DVDs<br />
will be accepted.<br />
They do need to be<br />
in their cases and in<br />
reasonably good condition.<br />

Sports<br />
a hard-fought battle with great<br />
chances for both teams to score<br />
many goals. However, with great goal<br />
tending by both teams, the score<br />
remained 1-1 after regulation and<br />
overtime. This game also came down<br />
to penalty shots. Kevin Posey made<br />
some great moves and blasted a shot<br />
past the goal tender giving the Silver<br />
Knights an early lead, but the Green<br />
Machine came roaring back and won<br />
the contest on the last penalty kick<br />
by Aaron Potter.<br />
In the championship game it<br />
was the Purple Thunder against the<br />
Hawks. It was a close contest at the<br />
beginning, but then the Purple Thunder<br />
got hot with goals from Micah<br />
Schipper, Aly Fogle, Benjamin Tiso<br />
and Sarai Manchester and went on<br />
to beat the Hawks 4-0 to win the<br />
championship.<br />
