Four Bridges Country Club Hires New General Manager Sean McClain has been hired as the new General Manager of Four Bridges Country Club based on his successful 19 years in the industry, his extraordinary level of detail and organization, and overall commitment and focus on improvement to the membership experience. Having been in the club management business for 19 years, Sean has developed a wide array of competencies and skills that will be a great overall asset to the Club. He most recently served as the Assistant GM/F&B Director & Events Coordinator at Wetherington Country Club. Sean has “hands on” experience in all aspects of Club operations, including, but not limited to food and beverage service, golf and sports administration, accounting and financials, marketing, special event sales and coordination, and staff, vendor and member relations. He will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the Club and will oversee staff to ensure that members and guests enjoy premier service, a quality product and an exciting calendar of events. SELF’s Microenterprise and Microloan Program Wins Statewide Best Practice Award Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF) won a Best Practice award from the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University for the Butler County Microenterprise & Microloan program. The Butler County Microenterprise and Microloan program is a partnership between SELF, BizTech Center and Neighborhood Housing Services to help low and moderate income individuals learn how to start a new business and the opportunity to apply for small business loans. “We are very pleased to have received our 20th Best Practice Award,” said Jeffrey Diver, executive director of SELF. “The Butler County Microenterprise and Microloan program helps low and moderate income individuals realize their dreams of business ownership.” The John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University and OACAA have developed the Best Practice Awards to honor innovative and effective Community Action Agency programs that measurably meet the needs of clients, families and communities by helping low-income people become more self-sufficient. Prize-Winning Robotics Team from Hopewell Junior School Hopewell Junior School students Paige Bentley, Elizabeth Cutler, Emma Stiefel, and Jessica Townsend won the FIRST® LEGO® League Thunderhawks Regional Tournament Grand Champion Award. They were recognized for their accomplishments at a recent Lakota Local Schools board meeting. Their team, The PEAs, have been working together for 18 months. In addition to competing, they lead an afterschool robotics school program for elementary school students, are planning to present their project at COSI’s Science Day, and are looking forward to competing for FLL®’s Global Innovation Award. FLL®, a collaboration of For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology and The Lego Group, is a program to encourage youths’ exploration of science and technology. Mathematics Awareness Month is in April The Huntington Learning Centers in the West Chester area are joining schools, colleges, universities, student groups, and other associations and interest groups to celebrate Mathematics Awareness Month. An annual celebration, Mathematics Awareness Month began in 1986 when President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation for National Mathematics Awareness Week. The theme this year is “Mathematics of Sustainability,” which illustrates the challenge of balancing human needs against the world’s limited resources. Mathematicians and other practitioners in a variety of fields use math to help the world understand this complex issue. “Math is such a critical part of the solution to the problems humanity faces,” says Eileen Huntington, co-founder of Huntington Learning Center. “As the world seeks to address and overcome these problems in today’s complex world, undoubtedly math will move to the forefront.
