Visit USA Ireland Newsletter Address from the Chairman: Hello and ...

Address from the Chairman:

Hello and Welcome to our October Newsletter,

Visit USA Ireland Newsletter

With the Autumn fast upon us, I am sure that all our members are enjoying the last impressions of

summer. Before I mention what's coming up this month I wanted to let you know that the past 3

weeks have been all business here in Ireland. Brigid and I embarked on a 7 full day USA Road Trip

around Ireland visiting 93 Travel Agents to actively promote our members services.

The trip offered a great insight into how Agents are promoting the USA. Many Agents were truly

engaging and very positive about 2010 business. Cruising appeared to be extremely popular and I

would certainly recommend to all of our members to see how they can benefit their business by

offering pre and post stay packages. Additionally twin centre holidays are selling well with Fly-

Drive also popular.

On completion of our VISIT USA Road Show we returned to a very busy week with our USA

Training Event and Stars & Cocktail Party taking place. I am glad to say that both events were a

great success and were well attended. We were very fortunate to be graciously received by the

American Ambassador, Mr. Dan Rooney and his wife who attended our party and addressed the

audience with a warm and truly gracious welcome.

Last weekend the VISIT USA exhibited at the Red Cow Travel Show for two full days and engaged

with thousands of interested holidaymakers searching for 2010 holiday ideas. This is our second

time exhibiting at this event and afforded us an opportunity to observe potential business for the

upcoming late 2009 as well as 2010 visitation by Irish holidaymakers.

This October our objective is to keep all of our Travel Agents and Tour Operators abreast of your

latest news and offers. Please let us know of any new developments in your specific area that will

increase your business out of Ireland. Presently we are working on several upcoming projects

including a November Travel Agent FAM to Florida, WTM 2009 Meetings, ITAA General Annual

Meeting as well as our Next Media and Trade Networking Event. This event will be taking place in

Dublin in November to celebrate Thanksgiving and offer our members an opportunity to engage

with the Media and Trade partners and hear the latest news and trends from our guest speakers. We

will send out the date to you next week for this very important Autumn event.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our members for their participation and continued support of

the VISIT USA Ireland Committee. We are truly honoured to represent you and promote the USA.

Our commitment to you for the remainder of the year is to actively seek every opportunity to

increase your business and profile in the Irish market.

Best Regards,

Ciaran Carraher

Chairperson of the VISIT USA Committee, Ireland.

NYC BEST LOCATED HOTEL FOR MACYS THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE

Just around the corner is the big American Holiday, Thanksgiving. Although many of us are

planning to go out of town to visit family, there are lots of things for the visitor to do. Shops,

theatres, restaurants and attractions will be open over the weekend. But on Thanksgiving

Day (and the night before) the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade takes center stage.

This year, for the first time, the parade route has changed and the Wellington Hotel is directly

on this new route. Starting at 9am on Thursday, November 26, all bands and floats will pass

right in front of the Wellington Hotel. The night before, when the balloons are inflated, has

become something very special as well. It is just a short walk from the Wellington to Central

Park West where the huge balloons and floats are prepared for the parade.

At the moment, rooms are still available ... contact me to work out something special for your

clients.

Missouri Division of Tourism - Fall is a Grape Time image attached

Fall is a Grape Time in Missouri

Autumn is the perfect time to explore Missouri wine country. At last count, Missouri was home

to 92 wineries, and the number keeps growing. In addition to producing great wine and juice

to drink, wineries provide wonderful vacation opportunities.

Many wineries plan Oktoberfest celebrations. The leaves reach their peak of colour, making the

country drives even more scenic than usual, and the cooler temperatures make it more pleasant to

sit around a picnic table overlooking a vineyard. Some wineries allow visitors to help with the grape

harvest — a real hands-on experience.

Wine trails are a popular way to visit wine country. The trails link regional wineries and offer tips on

things to see and do in each area. Missouri boasts five main wine trails. Visit

www.MissouriWine.org for further information.

AUTUMN COLOURS BRIGHTEN ALL OF MASSACHUSETTS

WHERE FALL STAYS JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER

Massachusetts is awash in colour from late September through October as the colours stretch

from the mountains and hills of the Berkshires to the lakes and oceans of southeastern MA.

Fall is a season not to be missed in Massachusetts so get out and take part in the culinary

events, festivals, and outdoor activities the Commonwealth has to offer.

The Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) has launched a newly enhanced

web page that offers live video feeds of the changing leaves from the Berkshires to Cape Cod

that can be accessed by visiting www.massvacation.com/scienceNature/fall-foliage.php. The

page also includes scenic drives and a fall foliage timetable map that will help visitors plan

their trip as well as fall activities represented by all the regions of the State. MOTT also

connects site visitors with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation on

more suggestions on how to get the most out of the fall foliage season including: scenic

drives to view summit vistas, learn about peaceful walks against colourful foliage backdrops

SEA OTTERS THRIVING IN WASHINGTON STATE

Washington State has seen a huge resurgence in the number of sea otters along its scenic

and rugged coastline, especially in the Olympic National Park.

This year marine biologists reported an 8 per cent increase, the largest rise in the sea otter

population recorded in the area.

Deanna Lynch, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, conducted the survey, she said: "We

evidently have lots of good food. Where almost all of them occur is along the national park

and within the coast sanctuary. It's pretty well protected and pristine for them."

The mammals were all but hunted to extinction in the area but in the late 60s a small number

were reintroduced and it is estimated there are now more than 1,000 in the region.

Such is the success of the programme that a few of the otters have even moved inland to the

waters of Puget Sound.

Washington State is blessed with an abundance of wildlife ranging from majestic Orca whales

to gray wolves and Bald eagles.

With over 600 wineries, it is the second largest wine producing state in the US and has the

only temperate rainforest in the States, as well as an active volcano and four national parks

and monuments.

Home to Seattle it is just a nine hour flight from the UK the iconic Space Needle and Pike

Place Market are just a few reasons to visit.
