+ AUTO FLOW VALVES
INCREASED PRODUCTION & PROTECTION
Typically installed in wells produced by ESP in situations where the well can flow without
assistance, Zenith Auto Flow Valves facilitate significant production increases by allowing
continued flow to surface when your pump is switched off.
In addition, the valves enhance pump protection by preventing tubing solids descending
into the pump on shut-down, defending against pump damage.
ZENITH
ZENITH AUTO FLOW VALVE (AFV)
When the ESP is started in a well with a Zenith AFV installed (fig. 2), the AFV pilots its annular
ports to the closed position; pump discharge pressure ensures the valve maintains
this position while producing through the pump. Production flows to the tubing with the
AFV mechanism preventing recirculation.
When the ESP is shut down (fig. 3), the AFV’s annular flow ports automatically open,
preventing backspin and pump damage from sands and debris descending into the pump
— the fluid column drains directly to the annulus.
1. 2. 3. 4.
By rerouting flow around rather than
through the non-operational ESP, thereby
eliminating the associated restriction and
resulting damage to the pump, significant
improvements in production can be
realised. Zenith Auto Flow Valves also
immediately divert solids to the annulus
when the ESP is switched off (fig. 4),
preventing the back-flow of sand clogging
the ESP stages.
The Zenith Auto Flow
Valve released an additional
$140,000 per week from the
well with the further benefit
of preventing ESP failure
through solids management
on pump shut-down.
AFV BENEFITS
Facilitates significant production increases by allowing continued flow to surface by bypassing the restriction of the ESP when pump is switched off
Increases ESP runlife:
» Prevention of damage to the stationary pump by reducing scale, wear and debris build-up by channelling flow through the annular ports
» Further damage avoidance on shut-down by avoiding tubing solids descending into the pump
» Prevents ESP back-spin or breaking motor shafts at start up
Interventionless operation as no control lines or wireline intervention required during normal operation
AFV FEATURES
Accommodates ESP cable bypass facility
AFV OPTIONS
Valve sizing options to suit the tubing size and flow
Can be supplied for deployment using any type of wireline or coil tubing lock system
ZENITH WIRELINE-RETRIEVABLE AUTO FLOW VALVE (W-AFV)
When a well is no longer free flowing the
Zenith Wireline-Retrievable Auto Flow Valve
(W-AFV) can be retrieved from the well with
slickline.
The Zenith Wireline-Retrievable AFV is typically installed on a standard lock in a ported
nipple (fig. 1) or sliding sleeve situated above an ESP. It brings all the advantages of the
standard AFV but can be retrieved from the well with slickline and replaced with an isolation
sleeve (fig. 2). Running or pulling the valve with standard wireline tools addresses any
concerns relating to additional equipment in the well bore.
A derivative of the W-AFV can be included in the Zenith Total Protection Bypass system.
1. 2.
The W-AFV can be redressed and reinstalled in a
new well significantly increasing the return on your
investment.
W-AFV BENEFITS
Facilitates significant production increases by allowing continued flow to surface by bypassing the restriction of the ESP when pump is switched off
Increases ESP runlife:
» Prevention of damage to the stationary pump by reducing scale, wear and debris build-up by channelling flow through the annular ports
» Further damage avoidance on shut-down by avoiding tubing solids descending into the pump
» Prevents ESP back-spin or breaking motor shafts at start up
Interventionless operation as no control lines or wireline intervention required during normal operation
Value enhanced through opportunity to reinstall in subsequent wells
W-AFV FEATURES
Accommodates ESP cable bypass facility
Retrieved using standard slickline procedures
» Supplied with isolation sleeve which may be run at any time in place of the valve if well conditions change
W-AFV OPTIONS
Valve sizing options to suit the tubing size and flow
Can be installed in either a ported sub or sliding sleeve
Can be supplied for deployment using any type of wireline or coil tubing lock system
