feature about the space hero. Lauentiis is taking<br />

over six principal sound stages at Shepper<br />

ton Studios outside London, headquarters for<br />

the production. Also taken over is the entire<br />

"Star Wars" facility at EMI Borehamwood,<br />

plus the complex at Brooklands, Surrey, providing<br />

6 million cubic feet of space under a<br />

single roof, all to accomodate the massive<br />

futuristic sets designed by Danilo Donati. De<br />

Laurentiis is planning a six month shooting<br />

schedule. Specialized optical, model and<br />

physical effects filming will be done concurrently<br />

with the main unit shooting. Flash Gor<br />

don is played by Sam Jones, little known<br />

American who only 10 months ago was a<br />

struggling actor looking for his first break.<br />

Alberta-born actress Melody Anderson is Dale<br />

Arden, Max Von Sydow is the menacing<br />

Emperor Ming the Merciless and Chaim<br />

Topol is Doctor Hans Zarkov. Others in the<br />

cast are Ornella Muti, Timothy Dalton, Brian<br />

Blessed, Peter Winegarde and John Hallam.<br />
