NEW PROJECT: “Global and European Citizenship
To further increase the commitment to provide high-quality learning for RIS
students, a new project titled “Global and European Citizenship” is being
implemented for the current school year.
The main aim of the project is to promote civic participation, a stronger sense
of belonging and an understanding of the rights and duties that contribute to
the definition of citizenship. A further aim is to raise studentsʼ awareness
about the European Union, considered as a case study in citizenship, and
encourage students to explore, understand, evaluate and make informed
decisions about the working of the European Union and in particular
international organisations in general. The project will make our students
aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens, develop among them a
sense of belonging and involve them actively in the process of European
integration.
The development of responsible civic behaviour may be encouraged from a
very early age. Citizenship education, which includes learning about the
rights and duties of citizens, respect for democratic values and human rights,
and the importance of solidarity, tolerance and participation in a democratic
society, is seen as a means of preparing children and young people to
become responsible and active citizens.
As early childhood education can lay foundations for later educational
success, this project can also be a valuable asset for those students who will
opt for university studies related to or directly focused on international
relations. There are many activities that have been prepared and we sincerely
hope that this will be of a benefit for our students as well as their families!
The project was prepared and will be implemented by Mrs. Marieta Okenkova
(mother of Ninka from Gr. 3M and an expert in international relations) with the
coordination and support of the following RIS staff members: Maia Lawand
(PYP Coordinator), Chiara Tabet (IB DP Coordinator), Marina Brunet (CAS
Coordinator), and Mr Felipo (Middle School Leader).
We already have a number of grade 12 students participating in the project.
More news about this project to come soon!
