have the advantage <strong>of</strong> ongoing support<br />
from an Early <strong>Child</strong>hood Educator and a<br />
network dedicated to helping their business<br />
grow.<br />
How to start your business<br />
Step One<br />
Register for an information session. At the<br />
session you will receive an application.<br />
Complete the application and submit it to<br />
the nearest <strong>Home</strong> <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />
Step Two<br />
Your application will be assessed against<br />
your qualifications, the location <strong>of</strong> your<br />
home, and the number <strong>of</strong> children needing<br />
care in your area. There will be a Criminal<br />
Reference Check requested for all residents<br />
<strong>of</strong> your home over the age <strong>of</strong> twelve. You,<br />
and all residents in your home, age 16 and<br />
older, will require a Family and <strong>Child</strong>ren’s<br />
<strong>Services</strong> Record Check.<br />
Step Three<br />
Next is an interview in your home, at which<br />
you will be assessed for your experience<br />
and ability to work with children. Your home<br />
will be inspected to ensure a safe, clean<br />
environment, your liability insurance<br />
confirmed, and your current immunization<br />
dates checked. You will require a current<br />
First Aid Certificate.

comply with municipal fire, health, and bylaw<br />
regulations. You agree to follow the Day<br />
Nurseries Regulations which govern the<br />
provision <strong>of</strong> home child care. Finally, you<br />
provide a smoke-free environment.<br />
