Bass-Principle
The subwoofer Stonehenge is
a high-power low frequency
active subwoofer based on the
bass-reflex principle. The woo-
fer is firing upwards against a
massive stone and the bassre-
flex vents are firing down
against the floor. By these re-
flecting planes the radiation
impedance is increased and the
radiation of sound into the
room becomes very even. The
floor is amplifying the low fre-
quencies of the vents (20 40 Hz).
While in many rooms a roaring
at 70-80 Hz is generated when
the sound is radiated via the
floor the woofer working in
this frequency region is placed
at the top of Stonehenge. It is
therefore at a height of 70 cm
(28“) where those resonances
can hardly be excited.
The Stonehenge impresses you
with a deep, black and very con-
trolled bass even in small
rooms.
Stonehenge – one Subwoofer for all
applications and purposes
STONEHENGE. The Stonehenge is an active
Subwoofer with a built-in amplifier
and an active control unit. Because of its
active low-pass crossover which can be
switched between 6 frequencies ( 50 –
150 Hz) the Stonehenge is universally
applicable and can be matched to every
loudspeaker. It has a volume control and
its phase can be switched to 0° or 180°.
With its four inputs for front left and
right, center and LFE-channel it can be
used as a subwoofer for bass only (LFE),
stereo (front left and right) or for a com-

plete multi-channel system consisting
of 5 Meteors (front, center and LFE) as
one normally doesn’t need a sub for the
rears. The Stonehenge goes down
linearly to 21 Hz and is then cut off sharply
to reduce subsonic noise or artificial
signals. The woofer is a 12” doublemagnet
high-excursion driver with a diecast
basket and a very stiff honeycomb
diaphragm. The low bass (20 to 40 Hz) is
generated by two down-firing bassreflex
vents. Thus a very high sound
pressure level of 108 dB can be reached.

HELIOS. The Isophon Helios is our midsize
centerspeaker which can be combined
with all our frontspeakers as it has
the same midrange and tweeter and
identical filters. These two drivers harmonize
perfectly resulting in this light,
transparent Isophon sound which shows
no sharpness or aggressiveness.
The midrange and tweeter are mounted
vertcially above each other. Helios is
therefore excellently suited for all lateral
listeners which are not sitting in the
sweet spot. Its frequency response under
30 degrees lateral angle is nearly the
METEOR. As all our speakers have the
crossover frequency of 130 to 150 Hz
between bass and midrange the idea
lies near to split up these two systems
into two separate enclosures thus creating
a satellite-subwoofer-system. The
satellite can be very small as the required
cabinet size is only 3.5 litres of our
midrange driver and tweeter. Such a
system would possess all the advantages
of our speakers as the same drivers,
crossover and time-delay is used.
Starting from 110 Hz and being highpass
filtered the Meteor is a satellite
with a very high resolution and dynamics
though being very small in size.

large listening area. In order to reduce
the height the tweeter is directly mounted
to the aluminum front-plate thus coming
closer to the midrange driver. In
combination with the time-delay circuitry
a very small acoustical center is
achieved. This point is especially important
for a precise and natural reproduction
of voices.
The Helios has a single-wiring WBT-terminal
on its back for an excellent contact
to all cables and connectors. As with all
our speakers a cloth-grille is available.

The midrangetweeter

Meteor and Helios own the sa-
me midrange driver and twee-
ter including the filtering we
use in all our stereo speakers.
Of course they are also working
with our famous time-delay
circuit which delays the
tweeter to coincide with the
midrange.
These two drivers harmonize
perfectly giving this isophontypical
brilliant, pleasant sound
with no harshness. This is
essential for a long joy of listening.
The bass-principle of
Helios
To combine a small cabinet
size with the demand of high
power capability we made a
new bass design for Helios:
a symmetrical, double-vented
bandpass of 8th order with a
push-pull-driver alignment.
The push-pull technique reduces
the cabinet size by a factor
of 2 and allows higher power
for the system as two long-excursion
woofers work inside.
Therefore you don’t need any
filtering for the Helios even
though its size is very pleasant.
