1. About this instruction manual

These assembly instructions are part of the product and must be read before the

assembly of the UV module.

2. General safety notes

ELECTROSHOCK!

Caution! Dangerous electrical voltage.

Non-compliance may result in serious physical damage.

EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN!

Description: Please wear safety glasses to protect your

eyes from UVC radiation.

CAUTION!

UVC radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin! UV lamps

may only be used in the radiation chamber if suitable

protective covers have been installed. Under no

circumstances should persons be exposed to UVC

radiation.

The UV module must always be disconnected from the circuit before:

• any repair work is performed.

• any cleaning work is carried out.

• the UV radiator is replaced.

Do not operate the UV radiator outside the UV reactor.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly recommend having any maintenance work carried out by

qualified experts.

3. Product description

3.1. Application

The UV hygienisation stage is used to disinfect domestic wastewater that has already

been treated by means of the SBR method. The UV module without pump can only be

used as integrated hygienisation stage. The UV module with pump can either be

installed downstream to the biological treatment stage in a separate pit or directly

integrated into the SBR reactor of the plant.

The UV hygienisation stage (without control cabinet and retrofit kit) for the internal

4. Installation

4.1. Assembly and electrical connection of the UV radiator

For transport safety reasons, the UV radiator is safely packaged and attached to the

outside of the UV reactor. Prior to commission, the UV radiator must be inserted in the

UV reactor and connected afterwards:

• For this, the UV reactor must be placed flat on the floor outside the container.

• The UV radiator must be removed from its packaging and cleaned by using a

clean cloth. Caution! Please do not touch the quartz glass of the UV radiator

with your bare, unprotected hands.

• Connect the 4-pin sleeve to the UV radiator. Carefully insert the radiator in the

quartz protection tube until it is fully recessed.

• Slightly loosen the cap nut of the M12 fitting. Afterwards, screw in the VA fitting

hand-tight. Then, fasten the M12 fitting and the cap nut hand-tight. Position the

VA protective cap in place and fasten the M16 fitting hand-tight.

• Connect the earthing cable to the UV reactor.

• The free end of the connection cable should be properly coiled up and hung up

at an appropriate location in the upper area of the manhole. If required, use the

supplied PE DN40 pipe clamps. By using another clamp, the cables between the

empty conduit and the first clamp can be secured. For this, the clamp can be

mounted to the cover of the tank. ATTENTION: Do not pull the entire cable

through the empty conduit to the control cabinet! In the manhole, cable of a

sufficient length must be available as reserve in such a manner that the

UV module can be pulled out for maintenance purposes!

4.2. Internal assembly of the switching device

The switching device has a connection cable with a length of 2.5 m; for the internal

assembly, care must be taken that the switching unit is assembled next to the control

cabinet.

4.3. External assembly of the switching device

An external assembly of the switching device is only possible in connection with an

A cabinet 1, 2 or B cabinets. For the B cabinets, the switching device is fastened to the

installation plate. The assembly in the A cabinet 1 and 2 is carried out in the base of the

control cabinet (see below).

For the vertical assembly, the retaining plate

is fastened by means of two drill screws to

the cut-out.

For the horizontal assembly, the retaining

plate and the cut-out of the base should be

pre-drilled by using a 5.5 mm drill. For

fastening, two screws, nuts and flat washers

each are required.

The brackets of the switching unit should be

enlarged, for instance, by using a

screwdriver. Thus, the screws can be

inserted more easily.

The switching device must be fastened to

the retaining plate by using 4 screws and 4

nuts.

4.4. Cable installation

After the connection of the UV reactor, the connection cables must be pulled through the

empty conduit to the control cabinet and connected in the switching device (4.5

Electrical connection of the UV reactor).

Important! In order to ensure smooth operation, the excess cable at the switching

device must be cut off. Do not coil up the cables. The entire length of the radiator cable

must not exceed the following values: for S50 20 m and for S80 5 m! Larger cable

lengths may only be used upon consultation with the engineering department!

4.5. Electrical connection of the UV reactor

In order establish a safe connection, the individual wires should be stripped to a length

of 9 to 11 mm. The connection is carried out conveniently from the front by using a small

slot screwdriver.

4.6. Inserting the UV module in the manhole

• Fill the UV module with fresh water.

o For the UV module with pump, pour in the water on the outlet side by

using a can.

o For the UV module without pump, pour in the water in the siphon on the

inlet side by using a can until flows out of the outlet.

• Insert the complete UV module in the manhole in the provided rail system. Make

sure that the outlet of the UV module can safely drain in the outlet of the tank

and/or in the sampling unit!

4.7. Commissioning

• The UV module is automatically controlled by the KLplus control mechanism.

The switch-on times are factory-preset. Check under the menu item “setup

report“ whether a time has been set under the sub-item “switch-on period UVtime“

(“xx Min“ UV module has not been activated - consultation with specialist

company or manufacturer]).

• The UV module can be tested in the “manual mode”. For this, use the arrow keys

to select “manual UV-unit: off. By pressing the numbers “1“ for “on“ and “0“ for

“off“ the UV module can be switched on and off.
