A TCOE Oral Interpretati<strong>on</strong> event for grades K-8.<br />

This performance event provides an opportunity for<br />

all students to recite successfully before an<br />

appreciative audience.<br />

Four sessi<strong>on</strong>s ARE HELD each day at the following<br />

times:<br />

9:00 a.m. 10:15 a.m.<br />

11:30 a.m. 12:45 p.m.<br />

To participate, complete the attached registrati<strong>on</strong><br />

form and return it by February 22, 2008.<br />

Reservati<strong>on</strong>s and scheduling requests are accepted <strong>on</strong><br />

a first-come basis. Schools will be notified <strong>of</strong> sessi<strong>on</strong><br />

dates and times by mid-March, 2008.<br />

spelling <strong>of</strong> each student’s name. We prepare, in<br />

advance, a pers<strong>on</strong>alized certificate for each student.<br />

We attempt to make every accommodati<strong>on</strong> for special<br />

requests, however, participati<strong>on</strong> in this event has<br />

grown every year. We ask that you please limit<br />

special requests for unavoidable hardships <strong>on</strong>ly.<br />

participati<strong>on</strong> are <strong>on</strong> the reverse side <strong>of</strong> this flyer.<br />

Entries:<br />

Each school is allowed a maximum <strong>of</strong> six<br />

(6) performances. Any combinati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following is acceptable:<br />

· Individual STUDENTS<br />

· Two small groups (2-5 students)<br />

· One large group (up to 10<br />

students)<br />

Important: Students can <strong>on</strong>ly be involved<br />

in <strong>on</strong>e presentati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Material:<br />

(1) Because <strong>of</strong> judging logistics, poetry is<br />

to be recited in English. (2) When you<br />

submit entries, please indicate any<br />

student-authored writings so we can give<br />

special recogniti<strong>on</strong> for the<br />

accomplishment. (3) Thanks for<br />

remembering the rule--NO costumes or<br />

props.<br />

Length:<br />

As a courtesy to the event, please, check<br />

the length <strong>of</strong> all recitati<strong>on</strong>s and strictly<br />

adhere to the five-minute maximum rule.<br />

If material is l<strong>on</strong>ger, please edit and<br />

c<strong>on</strong>dense as needed. Remember--no l<strong>on</strong>ger<br />

than 5 minutes. Younger students may opt<br />

to recite two short poems in<br />

place <strong>of</strong> <strong>on</strong>e l<strong>on</strong>ger poem.<br />

Evaluati<strong>on</strong>s:<br />

Judging will be based <strong>on</strong> the criteria stated<br />

<strong>on</strong> the judges' evaluati<strong>on</strong> sheet. Please see<br />

attached sample.<br />

Best Part:<br />

Judges will comment <strong>on</strong> each presentati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Both positive and instructi<strong>on</strong>al comments<br />

will be <strong>of</strong>fered to each reciter. Students<br />

gain valuable insights <strong>of</strong> recitati<strong>on</strong> skills by<br />

hearing critiques <strong>of</strong> all performances in<br />

their sessi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Certificates:<br />

Every student receives a beautiful,<br />

pers<strong>on</strong>alized certificate hand-stamped<br />

with his or her earned award level.<br />

Instructors will also leave with a set <strong>of</strong> the<br />

judges sheets <strong>on</strong> which instructi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

comments have been written for each<br />

performance.<br />

Please note that the attached student list<br />

is due by<br />

February 22, 2008.<br />

Special Services Entries:<br />

Participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> Special Services students<br />

is encouraged and supported. Each year<br />

we have been pleased to see more<br />

Resource and Speech/Language students<br />

taking part in this oral interpretati<strong>on</strong><br />

activity. <str<strong>on</strong>g>Poetry</str<strong>on</strong>g> and <str<strong>on</strong>g>Prose</str<strong>on</strong>g> judges have<br />

expertise in working with students with a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> needs. Success is guaranteed<br />

for all students.<br />

Accommodati<strong>on</strong>s for Special Educati<strong>on</strong><br />

Students:<br />

1. We will inform the judge <strong>of</strong> any special<br />

needs a student may have. (Let us<br />

know).<br />

2. Students may perform in a smaller group<br />

sessi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

3. Students may go first in the sessi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

4. Students may leave the sessi<strong>on</strong> early, if<br />

necessary.<br />

5. Judging is pers<strong>on</strong>alized to student's<br />

individual ability.<br />

Begin preparing now so as many deserving<br />

special needs students can be included<br />

in this performance opportunity.
