A TCOE Oral Interpretation event for grades K-8.
This performance event provides an opportunity for
all students to recite successfully before an
appreciative audience.
Four sessions ARE HELD each day at the following
times:
9:00 a.m. 10:15 a.m.
11:30 a.m. 12:45 p.m.
To participate, complete the attached registration
form and return it by February 22, 2008.
Reservations and scheduling requests are accepted on
a first-come basis. Schools will be notified of session
dates and times by mid-March, 2008.

*IMPORTANT! Please double check the correct
spelling of each student’s name. We prepare, in
advance, a personalized certificate for each student.
We attempt to make every accommodation for special
requests, however, participation in this event has
grown every year. We ask that you please limit
special requests for unavoidable hardships only.

Entries:
Each school is allowed a maximum of six
(6) performances. Any combination of the
following is acceptable:
· Individual STUDENTS
· Two small groups (2-5 students)
· One large group (up to 10
students)
Important: Students can only be involved
in one presentation.
Material:
(1) Because of judging logistics, poetry is
to be recited in English. (2) When you
submit entries, please indicate any
student-authored writings so we can give
special recognition for the
accomplishment. (3) Thanks for
remembering the rule--NO costumes or
props.
Length:
As a courtesy to the event, please, check
the length of all recitations and strictly
adhere to the five-minute maximum rule.
If material is longer, please edit and
condense as needed. Remember--no longer
than 5 minutes. Younger students may opt
to recite two short poems in
place of one longer poem.
Evaluations:
Judging will be based on the criteria stated
on the judges' evaluation sheet. Please see
attached sample.
Best Part:
Judges will comment on each presentation.
Both positive and instructional comments
will be offered to each reciter. Students
gain valuable insights of recitation skills by
hearing critiques of all performances in
their session.
Certificates:
Every student receives a beautiful,
personalized certificate hand-stamped
with his or her earned award level.
Instructors will also leave with a set of the
judges sheets on which instructional
comments have been written for each
performance.

Please note that the attached student list
is due by
February 22, 2008.
Special Services Entries:
Participation of Special Services students
is encouraged and supported. Each year
we have been pleased to see more
Resource and Speech/Language students
taking part in this oral interpretation
activity. <strong>Poetry</strong> and <strong>Prose</strong> judges have
expertise in working with students with a
variety of needs. Success is guaranteed
for all students.
Accommodations for Special Education
Students:
1. We will inform the judge of any special
needs a student may have. (Let us
know).
2. Students may perform in a smaller group
session.
3. Students may go first in the session.
4. Students may leave the session early, if
necessary.
5. Judging is personalized to student's
individual ability.
Begin preparing now so as many deserving
special needs students can be included
in this performance opportunity.
