Commitment to Diversity<br />
From 1999 to 2009, MLH spending with minority and<br />
women-owned vendors has grown from 4 percent to<br />
approximately 12 percent of annual spending. Total<br />
minority and women-owned vendor spending in 2009<br />
was $70.5 million up from $41.8 million in 2008. This<br />
remarkable 68 percent increase was substantially<br />
related to local minority and women-owned businesses<br />
participation in the Germantown and Le Bonheur<br />
building projects.<br />
<strong>Methodist</strong> was recognized over the last few years <strong>for</strong><br />
setting the standard <strong>for</strong> successful partnering by the<br />
Mid-South Minority Business Council (MMBC), the<br />
Black Business Association (BBA), the Small Business<br />
Administration, the Memphis Business Development<br />
Corporation and Premier, our national group<br />
purchasing organization.<br />

supplier diversity, work<strong>for</strong>ce diversity, internal diversity<br />
and community giving that has an economic impact<br />
among minorities.<br />
<strong>Methodist</strong> North Hospital is one of only six hospitals<br />
nationwide chosen by the Robert Wood Johnson<br />
Foundation to participate in a new ef<strong>for</strong>t to improve the<br />
quality and equality of cardiac care delivered by<br />
hospitals to racial and ethnic minority populations. The<br />
Aligning Forces <strong>for</strong> Quality: Equity Quality Improvement<br />
Collaborative (Equity QI Collaborative) will identify and<br />
test ways <strong>for</strong> hospitals to improve the quality of their<br />
cardiac care, while also identifying and reducing any<br />
racial and ethnic disparities.<br />
<strong>Methodist</strong> continued to build on our sense of fairness,<br />
with president and CEO Gary Shorb being named the<br />
Model Diversity Corporation CEO of the Year at the<br />
Mid-South Minority Business Council Robert R. Church<br />
Sr. Achievement Awards. <strong>Methodist</strong> continues to<br />
demonstrate its commitment to diversity and inclusion<br />
