<strong>Current</strong> <strong>Issues</strong> <strong>in</strong> Plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g is offered annually to those who hold a Plann<strong>in</strong>g/Zon<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Board Secretary, L<strong>and</strong> Use Adm<strong>in</strong>istrator, or Zon<strong>in</strong>g Official certificate<br />
through the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Government Services (CGS) at Rutgers. Attendees receive<br />
5 hours of cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g education credits toward the renewal of their Rutgers certificates.<br />
The <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Government Services has applied <strong>for</strong> CM credits through the American<br />
Plann<strong>in</strong>g Association <strong>for</strong> those who hold the AICP designation.<br />
About NJAPZA<br />
The New Jersey Association of Plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istrators has partnered<br />
with CGS <strong>in</strong> the development of the plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> zon<strong>in</strong>g adm<strong>in</strong>istration education<br />
programs s<strong>in</strong>ce its found<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1989. The mission of the organization is:<br />
To educate its members to the legal requirements of Plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istration<br />
<strong>and</strong> Public Employment <strong>and</strong> thereby promote a better underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of the<br />
official duties <strong>and</strong> obligations of its members.<br />
To establish uni<strong>for</strong>m procedures <strong>and</strong> practices <strong>in</strong> Plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istration,<br />
<strong>in</strong>sofar as possible or practical.<br />
To establish resources <strong>for</strong> membership assistance.<br />
To enhance the st<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of the members <strong>in</strong> their respective communities.<br />

About the Certificate Programs<br />
In cooperation with the NJAPZA, the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Government Services offers two<br />
certificate programs:<br />
Plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istration<br />
Zon<strong>in</strong>g Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> En<strong>for</strong>cement<br />
With<strong>in</strong> three years of complet<strong>in</strong>g the courses compris<strong>in</strong>g either program, a student<br />
may apply <strong>for</strong> a certificate, which must be renewed every five years.<br />
Individuals hold<strong>in</strong>g a Board Secretary certificate <strong>and</strong> who work full time <strong>in</strong> a<br />
municipal l<strong>and</strong> use office <strong>for</strong> a m<strong>in</strong>imum of five years may be eligible to apply<br />
<strong>for</strong> the additional designation of L<strong>and</strong> Use Adm<strong>in</strong>istrator. No additional courses<br />
are required prior to submitt<strong>in</strong>g the application but the applicant must be able to<br />
document extensive adm<strong>in</strong>istrative <strong>and</strong>/or supervisory experience.<br />
Certificate holders must accrue a specific number of cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g education hours<br />
<strong>in</strong> order to renew. Both general adm<strong>in</strong>istrative <strong>and</strong> technical l<strong>and</strong> use topics are<br />
eligible <strong>for</strong> credit. Certificate holders are responsible <strong>for</strong> keep<strong>in</strong>g track of their<br />
own cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g education hours <strong>and</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the appropriate documentation.<br />
Courses offered by organizations other than CGS or NJAPZA must be approved<br />
by CGS be<strong>for</strong>e credit is awarded.<br />

Individuals hold<strong>in</strong>g more than one certificate may a) apply any adm<strong>in</strong>istrative credits<br />
accrued to all of the certificates <strong>and</strong> b) apply the first 10 technical credits earned<br />
to each of the certificates. This means that if an <strong>in</strong>dividual holds all three certificates<br />
<strong>and</strong> attends the maximum number of adm<strong>in</strong>istrative hours, s/he must accrue an<br />
additional 10 credits <strong>for</strong> LUA renewal <strong>and</strong> an additional 4 credits <strong>for</strong> ZO renewal.<br />

Registration<br />
Early registration is encouraged. Registrations are processed on a first-come, firstserved<br />
basis. Attendees must submit registration <strong>for</strong>ms with method of payment<br />
<strong>in</strong> order to reserve a space. No confirmations will be sent. The <strong>Center</strong> reserves the<br />
right to cancel any course or sem<strong>in</strong>ar. CGS will notify all enrolled students if there<br />
is a cancellation <strong>and</strong> the <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation will be posted on the CGS website.<br />
WITHDRAWAL<br />
Participants who wish to cancel their registration may do so up to three (3) bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
days prior to the start of the conference date. Participants must submit their notice<br />
of withdrawal <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g to the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Government Services <strong>in</strong> order to receive<br />
a refund of the full conference fee less a $25 process<strong>in</strong>g charge. Faxed requests are<br />
