Elevating Canada’s profile

Canada had a unique opportunity to use

the world’s excitement around the London

2012 Olympic Games and the prime location

of Canada House on London, England’s

Trafalgar Square to advance Canada’s

commercial profile with business leaders from

around the world.

With so many people focused on and

coming to London, it was the perfect time to

open the doors of Canada Olympic House,

which hosted the cultural and consular

activities of the High Commission of Canada

in London, England, to visiting athletes,

dignitaries and business leaders.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade

Canada (DFAIT) wanted to create a vibrant,

interactive and novel experience for visitors

with memorable Canadian themes and

messages that would engage the global

business community. To that end, DFAIT set

up two digital signage displays on the first

floor of Canada Olympic House.

The displays dressed the reception space,

creating vivid and compelling images that

drew visitors to them.

At the foot of the lobby staircase, DFAIT created

a Christie ® MicroTiles ® display in an irregular,

staggered shape that was simultaneously

evocative of a modern city skyline or the outline

of a cluster of totem poles.

The Canadian-made Christie products are

concrete proof of Canada’s business, R&D

and technology strengths.

The single-sided array was five feet wide

and 12 feet high and consisted of 37 Christie

MicroTiles. Because of the tiles’ modular and

compact design, it was easy for DFAIT to

create the uniquely-shaped array.

For the center of the reception lobby, DFAIT

set up a second rectangular, interactive

entrance of Canada House — a division

London, England — greeted guests and

dignitaries with the impressive imagery

and key messaging of Canada.

By gesturing with their hands across this

guests could interact with the display.

Together the two displays offered Canada

Olympic House guests a welcoming and

informative introduction to Canada as a place

to live, work, invest and relocate to.

Along with a strong Olympic flavor,

the images and messages highlighted

Canada’s top-performing economy, stable

financial system and excellent research

and development (R&D) scene. Different

business sectors — advanced manufacturing

and information and communications

technologies — were also featured in the

technology held visitors’ attention. They

could navigate its full content including

interactive software of “dancing” maple

leaves and messaging on Canada’s business

value proposition and sector strengths.

DFAIT staff were pleased that the display also

encouraged conversation between them and

the business executives who were attending

the various events at Canada Olympic House.
