Mäori have a younger age profile than the<br />
region as a whole. Over 58 percent of the<br />
Mäori population in the Bay of Plenty region<br />
were 29 years or under in 2006. There were<br />
almost equal numbers of Mäori aged 14 years<br />
or younger and aged 30 to 64 years old.<br />

These two groups are important to strategic<br />
growth and development – one includes<br />
future leaders while the other includes current<br />
leaders who are participating in the economy<br />
and adding to the asset base.<br />
