Announcement<br />
The<strong>Indian</strong><strong>Statistical</strong><strong>Institute</strong>invitesnominationsfortheM. N.<strong>Murthy</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong><br />
<strong>Prize</strong>: 2013-2014. The conditions for the award and the manner in which<br />
nominations are to be made are set out below.<br />
1. The prize will be awarded to a person who is generally working in India and not<br />
above 35 years of age on 1 July, 2013.<br />
2. The prize will be awarded for the best research work done in India in Applied<br />
Statistics which should include Sample Surveys, Quality, Reliability & Operations<br />
Research (QROR), Experimental Design and Data Analysis and related<br />
fields, in the form of published articles and/or accepted Ph.D. thesis.<br />
3. The prize is expected to be awarded at the <strong>Institute</strong>’s Annual Convocation.<br />
4. The candidate recommended for the prize may have to come to Kolkata and<br />
present the results, in a seminar around the time of the convocation. The prizewinning<br />
candidate’s travel to Kolkata by train and his/her stay in the <strong>Institute</strong>’s<br />
campus in Kolkata will be supported by the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
5. The applications will be considered on the basis of nomination from the Heads<br />
of Departments of Universities/Institutions/Organisations. These should be accompanied<br />
by copies of the concerned research papers and the candidate’s biodata<br />
(with proof of age), and sent to the address given below by 31st July, 2013.<br />
A proforma of the nomination form is enclosed, xerox copy of which can be used<br />
if needed.<br />
6. Candidates who have not formally been nominated, may also be considered at<br />
the <strong>Institute</strong>’s discretion.<br />
7. If no candidate is found suitable for the prize, no prize will be awarded.<br />
8. The selection of the prize-winning candidate will be made by a committee of<br />
experts and is subject to ratification by the Academic Council and the Council<br />
of the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
