Caring for their memory

The final resting places of our loved ones deserve to be well

cared for. We all want the peace of mind that comes from

knowing their graves are being maintained in a way that

respects their memory.

But it can be hard to do this important job ourselves. It’s a

time consuming and physically demanding task that many

find difficult. Without care, memorials risk becoming dirty with

inscriptions illegible and stones becoming damaged – which

besides being undesirable can give rise to very expensive

repair costs.

At the United Synagogue we want to help make sure that every

grave is preserved in a dignified condition. That’s why we

provide our Burial Society Care Programme.

The care we can provide

Any memorial that is in good condition can be added to one of the following

Care Programmes. When joining a Care Programme we will supply an estimate

for any initial repairs required to return the memorial to good condition. (Should

any such repairs be required, the first year’s Annual Care for Single or Double

Stones will be provided free of charge).

Annual Care Programme

n regular inspections will check that time and nature have not damaged the

n twice yearly cleaning will be carried out to remove the dirt, algae and lichen

that can stain and damage an untended stone

n any memorial found to have subsidence will be rectified

Extended Care Programme

This new programme allows a one off payment to cover maintenance for a

set number of years. The service provided is the same high level as all the

Care Programmes. The benefit of this programme is that the length of care is

calculated on the current annual rate and not subject to any increases in cost.

Above: The real difference that a Care Programme can make.

Although normal wear and tear of masonry isn’t covered – for

example when weathering brings an inscription to the end of

its life – belonging to a Care Programme will not only slow this

process down, but will also provide you with regular inspections

that will alert you to any work needed before costs escalate.
