MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR TRACK Hawks Break MAAC Records in Debut Season<br />
The men’s and women’s indoor<br />
track & field teams claimed<br />
championship victories, while<br />
breaking multiple conference records, in<br />
their first season competing in the Metro<br />
Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC)<br />
at the Armory in New York City on<br />
February 22.<br />
Head Coach Joe Compagni added<br />
to his illustrious career titles claiming<br />
MAAC Track and Field Coach of the<br />
Year honors on both the men’s and<br />
women’s side.<br />
“This was a total team effort and the<br />
result of a ton of hard work by a lot of<br />
people,” said Compagni. “From the<br />
support we get from everyone on campus<br />
within and outside of athletics, to our<br />
whole coaching staff and every member<br />
of our team, this is a pair of great victories<br />
for Monmouth University.”<br />
In the field events Errol Jeffrey won<br />
both the weight throw and the shot put<br />
to lead Monmouth throwers. His weight<br />
throw mark was 65’6”, while his shot put<br />
toss was 59’5¾”. On the women’s team<br />
Tilah Young won the weight throw with<br />
a mark of 59’ 9 ½“, setting a MAAC<br />
record, while Rachel Aliotta won the<br />
shot put with a distance of 46’ 10 ¼“.<br />

MEREDITH SIGNS WITH SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES<br />
12 feet, 5 ½ inches to win by more than<br />
a foot, breaking a previous conference<br />
mark set in 2008. Mariah Toussaint also<br />
established a new MAAC long jump<br />
record three inches over the previous<br />
mark, leaping 20’ 3 ½” to win the event.<br />
Toussaint also claimed second place in<br />
the high jump at five feet, three inches.<br />
The men’s track events saw Eric<br />
Kahana winning the 60 meter dash in<br />
Former men’s soccer star goalkeeper Bryan Meredith signed with the San Jose<br />
Earthquakes in January. The goalkeeper from Scotch Plains joins the Major<br />
League Soccer (MLS) club following recent stints with Seattle Sounders FC,<br />
IK Brage (Sweden), and the New York Cosmos.<br />
Meredith claimed a pair of all-region first team honors earned two All-Northeast<br />
Conference (NEC) honors at Monmouth. A captain as a senior, he led the NEC in<br />
goals against average (0.70), save percentage (84.2%) and shutouts (11) in 2010.<br />
Meredith, who was named the NEC Tournament Most Valuable Player in helping<br />
the Hawks advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, ended<br />
his stellar collegiate career with 36 shutouts and a 44-7-10 record.<br />
He helped lead Monmouth to four-straight NEC Regular Season Titles and<br />
back-to-back league tournament crowns. The Hawks were ranked in the NSCAA<br />
National Rankings for the entirety of his senior season.<br />

Capwell continued his strong running in<br />
the 800, winning the event in 1:50.52.<br />
The women fared equally as well in<br />
the track events, led by Toussaint and<br />
Lachelle Wallace who placed first and<br />
second in the 60 meter dash. Toussaint<br />
set her second MAAC record in the 200<br />
at 24.30 seconds, followed by Laura<br />
Williams in second place at 24.61.<br />
