Tauck’s Australian roots go back to 1987 when a chap by the name of Tony Millmore 

called me about being Tauck’s general sales agent in Australia. Tony felt Tauck offered 

the best travel experiences in North America and, of course, I could not have agreed 

with him more! We soon became friends and business partners, and 25 years later our 

two family-run companies continue to enjoy a special and successful relationship. 

Today, Tauck is under the leadership of my son-in-law Dan Mahar and Travel the World 

is run by Tony’s son Andrew. The hard work by this next generation has certainly paid 

off; just recently Tauck was named a finalist as Australia’s “Best Luxury Tour Operator”

It all started with Arthur Tauck, Jr.’s fond memories of exploring Europe’s 

country roads by bicycle while in the service, sitting down for a chat and a 

story or two with the locals in villages right out of Grimm’s fairy tales and 

enjoying those special unexpected moments that make all the difference. 

A personal introduction to Paddy Fenton of Molanna’s dairy farm in Ireland, 

an all-night discussion about skiing and subsequently, business with the 

owner of a little Swiss inn at the foot of the Jungfrau, an impromptu trek along 

the narrow pathways of Cinque Terre in time to greet fishing boats returning 

with the day’s catch, and an outstanding, fresh fish dinner.

The American West 

The success of the first air/land tour to Nova Scotia in 1958 

planted yet a new idea in Arthur Jr.’s head. Until the late 1950s, 

leisure travel to the West was almost exclusively by rail and he 

was determined to marry newly developed air travel with his 

growing tour business. The National Parks were incredible 

destinations, yet rarely seen by overseas travellers. The biggest 

challenge was getting access to the best, within-the-park hotels. 

Once again, persistence paid off. 

Over the course of 20 years, Arthur and his team developed 

different journeys to the Canyonlands, Colorado’s National Parks, 

Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and many other Western 

destinations. Tens of thousands of guests combined these 

famous tours and enjoyed them back-to-back. 

Today, Tauck is the largest tour company to the National Parks, 

with 30 tours featuring over 50 National Parks across the country, 

and is the only company to guarantee rooms in extraordinary 

hotels inside the parks such as: Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone, 

Kachina Lodge in the Grand Canyon, the Ahwahnee ® Hotel in

Canada 

The towering rugged mountains, pristine forests and majestic 

glaciers of the Canadian Rockies caught Arthur Jr.’s imagination 

in the late 1950s. It is unusual for such a remote wilderness to 

have world-class accommodations. 

Thanks to the Canadian Pacific Railroad, the Canadian Rockies 

were an exception. However, there was one major problem; no 

rooms were available. Built to attract customers for the railroad, 

virtually every hotel room in the Canadian Rockies was linked to 

a train car berth. Arthur first applied for hotel rooms in 1958 and 

was turned down. He applied again in 1959, 1960 and 1961, all 

with the same result. Finally, in 1962, a motel outside of Banff, the 

Timberline Lodge, gave the green light. Arthur snapped up the 

offer and proceeded to fill every room allocated. Impressed, 

Canadian Pacific Hotels finally gave Tauck the space it wanted at 

the Banff Springs Hotel in 1964. 

Today, Tauck is the most important leisure partner of Banff 

Springs Hotel, Château Lake Louise and the Jasper Park Lodge; 

all now owned by Fairmont Hotels. When staying at these

General Information 

Inclusive Prices 

2013 tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars. Prices include all 

accommodations, airport transfers as detailed in tour, entertainment, special 

dinners, land and cruise transportation, sightseeing, shore excursions, luggage 

handling, and services of bilingual local guides, naturalists and Tauck Directors. 

Meals are included as specified in the itinerary. 

Hotel accommodations – Hotel & Ship Accommodations – Tauck’s price 

includes all hotel & ship accommodations with private baths. Two-bedded rooms 

are reserved in most hotels. Triples are usually two-bedded rooms plus a rollaway 

cot and are not recommended for comfort; aboard ship, triples may include a sofa 

or an upper berth. 

Internet – Complimentary basic Internet where available in hotel rooms; service 

levels are not guaranteed. 

Tauck Director – Cruises and tours are conducted by a Tauck Director who 

remains with the group. They are professional, trained employees of Tauck. 

Gratuities Included – All appropriate gratuities for bellmen, doormen, dining room 

servers, ship staff & local guides included. Tauck Director and Tauck Cruise 

Director gratuities are included on all European River Cruises. 

Luggage Handling & Restrictions – Luggage handling is included in the tour or 

cruise cost; however, due to space limitations aboard motor coaches, we ask that 

you limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Most 

airlines require that checked luggage not exceed a weight of 23 kgs. per piece. 

Luggage exceeding the maximum restrictions is subject to expensive overage 

fees or is at risk of being left behind. Many airlines are now charging fees for 

checked luggage, regardless of the number of bags. Airlines revise luggage 

policies frequently, and often without notice; therefore Tauck cannot be held liable 

for additional fees or inconveniences imposed by the airline. We urge you to check 

with your airline before traveling to verify current number, size and weight limits. 

Note: Tours with on-tour flights as part of the itinerary are subject to separate 

weight restrictions for checked luggage. Please inquire upon booking or refer to 

your destination on our website at www.tauck.com.au for these restrictions. Guests 

on tour should limit hand luggage to a small carry-on piece and only those items 

needed during the day. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited 

space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in overhead racks is 

typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, small 

camera bags, etc. Items too large to fit underneath seats or in overhead racks 

must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach and may not allow 

for access during daytime travel. 

On-Tour Flights – Some itineraries require on-tour flights as an integral part of the 

travel experience as specified on applicable tour pages. While the airfare is often 

not included in the cost of the land price, these flights must be purchased through 

Tauck as part of the tour package. Refer to pricing grid on tour pages or ask at 

booking. 

Not Included – Airfare to the cruise or tour departure point and from the cruise or 

tour ending point is not included. Airport tax and departure taxes are not included. 

Tauck Director & Driver Gratuities are not included on land trips and should be 

extended on a voluntary, individual basis. As exceptions, Tauck Director & driver 

gratuities are included on cruises and Tauck Bridges trips. 

Hotel Rooms Before or After Cruises or Tours – To avoid jet lag, many guests 

prefer to make hotel arrangements before their cruise or tour departs. As a service, 

Tauck will make hotel reservations before or after your cruise or tour on a space 

available basis upon request. Hotel charges will be added to your cruise or tour 

cost. Note: Airport transfers are included for these bookings. 

Personal Expenses such as phone calls, room service, alcoholic and bar 

beverages, laundry, airline excess luggage charges and other optional incidental 

extras are not included. 

Luggage Responsibility – Although every effort is made to handle guests’ 

luggage carefully, we cannot be responsible, assume liability or accept claims for 

loss or damage to luggage and personal effects due to breakage, theft, or fair 

wear and tear through hotel, airline and group carrier handling. It is important to 

have adequate insurance to cover these eventualities. See Tauck’s “Guest or 

Cruise Protection Product.” 

Before You Go 

Itinerary Changes & Price Flexibility – Tauck pledges to make every effort to 

operate all cruises and tours as advertised. Tauck reserves the right to alter or 

curtail the itinerary, or substitute sightseeing, ports, hotels, and / or conveyances 

as deemed necessary. Any savings realised by these changes will be refunded to 

passengers. Any resultant added expense will be covered by Tauck. Note: 

Although not expected, prices in this brochure may be modified due to 

unexpected significant external factors not forecasted at the time of printing. 

Passports / Visas – For international travel, Australian citizens need a passport 

valid for at least 6 months beyond completion of the tour or cruise. Visas may also 

be required; contact your travel agent or appropriate consulate for documentation 

information. 

Airline Security Measures – The Transportation Security Administration 

requires all passengers to provide their name exactly as it appears on the 

passport to be used while traveling, their date of birth and gender when making 

airline reservations to fly to, from and over the U.S. to the airlines. This 

information will be requested at time of booking for all flight arrangements made 

through Tauck. For international travel, the name on your airline ticket and your 

passport must match. 

International Cruise Regulations – Travellers must provide their passport 

number and date of birth to Tauck at time of booking for all cruises. Tauck must 

provide this information to the cruise line before departure or you may be denied 

boarding. 

Membership & Health – Membership will be granted to all persons. Please 

consult your physician for pre-departure health advice. Tauck reserves the right 

to terminate the cruise or tour of any persons who are abusive of others or 

whose behavior disrupts the tour. 

Travellers Needing Special Assistance – Tauck regrets that it cannot provide 

individual assistance to a guest for walking, wheelchairs, motorised scooters, 

dining or other personal needs. Guests needing such assistance must be 

accompanied by an able companion who will assist them. We regret that some 

itineraries cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorised scooters; ask at 

booking. 

Air Services – International flights are available, please ask at time of enquiry 

for current pricing and availability. By using Travel the World’s air services, you 

agree that Travel the World, in purchasing, selling or otherwise arranging air 

transportation, is acting only as your agent and is not liable or responsible for 

any accident, death, personal injury, illness, property damage, delay or other 

loss or expense of any nature whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of any 

act of God, or any actions or omissions (including any failure to provide 

services) or default of, any carrier. All carriers are independent contractors and 

are not owned, managed, controlled or operated by Travel the World or Tauck. 

Your airline ticket constitutes a contract between yourself and the airline (and not 

Travel the World or Tauck), even if purchased through Travel the World. Travel 

the World and Tauck are not liable for, and does not assume responsibility or 

accept claims with regard to, seat assignments, name changes, schedule 

changes, flight changes, cancellations, claims for a refund or reimbursement of 

airline ticket fees, or any other loss or expense incurred by you for any reason 

whatsoever (including, without limitation to bankruptcy, insolvency, 

reorganisation of a carrier or similar relief from creditors) when purchasing or 

using the carrier’s services. Special fares cannot be combined with any other 

promotional offer. The air services must be purchased in conjunction with a 

Tauck tour. Electronic ticket numbers will be mailed with final documents. Should 

you cancel or change your air before or after departure, all airline cancellation 

and change fees will apply. 

Photography and Video on Tour – Occasionally, Tauck will use photographs 

and / or video taken by fellow guests or your Tauck Director on tour for print, 

Internet and other media promotional purposes. If you prefer that your image not 

be used in any marketing activities, please notify your Tauck Director.

General Information 

Final Documents, which may include electronic airline ticket numbers when 

applicable, are sent by express post 3-4 weeks prior to tour departure. Please 

advise Travel the World of your departure date from Australia to ensure 

documentation reaches you prior. They include joining instructions, ship 

information, hotel lists, reading list, clothing suggestions, tour or cruise itinerary, 

luggage tags, and other pertinent information. 

Tauck Guest Protection 

Should you have to cancel your land journey for any reason, up to the day 

before departure, a non-refundable Guest Protection fee, listed below, reduces 

all cancellation fees outlined (except in extreme circumstances*), provided we 

are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. The cost is as follows:

$550 per person – Manitoba: Polar Bear Adventure; Essence of South America;

In addition, we highly recommend all travellers to take comprehensive travel 

insurance to cover medical, airfare and luggage protection. 

Tauck Cruise Protection 

Under Tauck’s all-inclusive Cruise Protection, you can cancel your cruise for any 

covered reason up to the day before departure and receive a money-back 

refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the cruise cost, based on your 

original method of payment. The following conditions apply: 

Section I – Cancellation for Non-Covered Reasons: Should you have to cancel 

your cruise for any reason, Tauck’s Cruise Protection reduces the regular 

cancellation fees outlined herein, provided we are notified of cancellation before 

your cruise departs. Section I is provided by Tauck. 

Section II – Cancellation for Covered Reasons: Travel Insurance and Services 

– Should you have to cancel your cruise due to illness, injury, death or other 

covered reason, cancellation or airline penalties not refunded by Tauck would 

be reimbursable under Section II of the plan. The plan provides 24-hour 

emergency assistance services as well as: 

• Airfare Protection – Should you need to cancel or interrupt your Tauck cruise 

for covered reasons, airfares and air penalties are covered. 

• Medical Protection – Reimbursement for covered medical expenses incurred 

in the event you become injured or ill during your cruise (including pre-existing 

conditions if purchased at time of booking). 

• Luggage Protection – Reimbursement for delayed, lost, stolen or damaged 

luggage. 

The cost of Tauck’s Cruise Protection is as follows: 

$550 per person – Europe river cruises, Treasures of the Aegean, Venice & the 

Dalmatian Coast 

Tauck’s optional Guest or Cruise Protection must be requested at time of 

booking and fee must be included in initial payment. Cost is not refundable 

under any circumstances. Reimbursements will be made according to original 

method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any 

recoveries obtained by you from any third parties. Travel agent commissions are 

not covered under these products.

complete details of the policy terms, limitations and exclusions applicable to 

Section II of the plan. The coverages and services provided under Section II 

were arranged with BerkelyCare on behalf of Stonebridge Casualty Insurance 

Company, under policy number MZ0911071H0001A for cruises and 

MZ0911071H0000A for land journeys. 

*Extreme Circumstances: In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared 

or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or 

other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in 

cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such 

event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a 

money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey. 

If You Have To Cancel 

Cancellation Fees – Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly 

charges from travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by 

canceling confirmed bookings. Therefore, the fees listed herein will apply.

In the event of an unforeseen circumstance beyond our control, Tauck reserves 

the right to amend the Guest Protection and cancellation terms outlined herein. 

Tour Interruption Fees – If you have to interrupt your tour or cruise en route, 

you may be entitled to a refund for the unused land portion if it exceeds 24 

hours; certain restrictions apply. Such refunds are based upon the number of 

overnights missed less a fee of $40 per person per day for unused 

transportation and other fixed expenses. 

Partial Room Cancellation – A person who cancels or leaves a tour or cruise 

while a roommate remains constitutes a cancellation of one type of 

accommodation and rebooking of another type of accommodation. The price 

charged the remaining person is the new, higher price for the new 

accommodation. 

Single Rooms – Since hotel rates are per room, the cruise price for rooms 

occupied by one person is higher than those where two or more persons share 

the cost of a room. In Europe, most single rooms are smaller than double rooms 

and only have one bed. Special single rates are available on select departures 

of select journeys as noted on individual tour pages; these special single rates 

are not transferable to other departure dates.

Land Journeys 

Guests choosing to purchase Tauck’s Guest Protection will incur Loss of Guest 

Protection Fee, per person.

With two nights complimentary accommodations for every 2013

Given the long length of a typical Australian holiday to Europe or 

North America, many guests find that combining a cruise and 

land journey, or a long trip with one of our shorter “Week In…” 

itineraries, is the ideal solution. Often guests want to take a few 

days between trips to relax or explore on their own, so the 

complimentary hotel nights are especially valuable given the 

expense of high-end hotels.
