Business Leaders Network<br />
On May 12, Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher visited the Willett-Pratt Training Center to meet with local<br />
employers who partner with <strong>Zane</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> on employee training and discussed the climate of doing<br />
business in this region.<br />
Assembled guests included representatives from New Bakery, Kellogg Company, Metallurg Vanadium<br />
Corporation, Nicolozakes Trucking & Construction, Bi-Con Services, and Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing.<br />
Lieutenant Governor Fisher said that having a pipeline between businesses and training “is the single<br />
most important thing [Ohio] can do.”<br />
Workforce Development<br />
The Willett-Pratt Training Center hosted Senator George Voinovich on July 7, providing an opportunity<br />
for area leaders to discuss workforce development issues and opportunities.<br />
Approximately 20 representatives from southeast Ohio organizations, including economic development<br />
and Job and Family Services leaders and business leaders from such companies as The Longaberger<br />
Company, Kellogg Company, and Bi-Con Services, met with Senator Voinovich to discuss his proposed<br />
Workforce Innovation Regional Development (WIRED) Act of 2008. He also collected additional<br />
information from participants about the shortcomings of the current workforce development system,<br />
including funding mechanisms.<br />
