to bring all te biggest names of the travel industry
under one roof. Those who are not aware of the
event's potential, here are some fast facts for you.

ITB Berlin – a benefit for everybody
As a driving force in the travel industry, ITB Berlin
gives impetus to a continuously growing market.
Exhibitor sales of about 6 billion Euro and an
exhibitor satisfaction rate of 92 percent are evidence
enough that supply and demand meet at the right
place.
The world's largest tourism convention ITB Berlin
Convention provides unique opportunities to benefit
from the leading think tank of the global tourism
industry. All levels of the value added chain are
present: Tour operators, booking engines,
destinations, airlines, and hotels right through to car
rental companies. Despite its size, ITB Berlin is well
structured and organized.
ITB Berlin Convention Programmes: Listen as the Decision Makers Speak
ITB Future Day:
The ITB Future Day highlights
mega-trends in the economy and society and shows
how the global travel industry's structures are
changing. Which IT, Big Data and Social Media
innovations will shape the global tourism industry in
the future How is the boom of low-cost carriers
changing the leisure industry How is the capital
market developing, and what rules does Venture
Capital follow How do luxury markets work and
what can the travel industry learn from other lines of
business And last but not least: What are the latest
forecast data regarding travel behaviour in the most
important tourism regions We´ll be using an
audience response system to interact with the
audience.

TTW
08
ITB Hospitality Day:
ITB Destination Days:
In the touristic value-added
chain specific importance is attributed to the hotel
industry: Its performance significantly influences
travelers' opinions about the value of their stay. The
industry reacts all the more sensitively to the latest
trends, topics and social changes. It serves travelers
as a “people to people” business, as a “global
business” it contributes to borderless
communication. That is why the ITB Hospitality Day
discusses markets and people, concepts and
contradictions, trends and countertrends,
bottlenecks and leeway – and it helps the industry
position itself in the international environment.
The three ITB Destination
Days are devoted to the challenges and perspectives
in international destination management. In
addition to increasingly popular forms of sustainable
tourism, the potential for cruise tourism in
destinations will also be analyzed. Innovative
technological concepts for the management of
overused destinations show how growing numbers
of tourists can be absorbed in coming years. Special
attention is given to emerging Asian travel markets
like Malaysia – but there is also an important focus
on Latin America and Africa, not to mention Arabian
countries and Mexico, the Partner Country of ITB
Berlin. The touristic potential in crisis-stricken
countries is also of great interest.
Not Only For Traders, ITB is also for
Bloggers!
Companies and international travel bloggers meet at
the second ITB Berlin Bloggers Speed Dating event –
lectures and workshops on working with bloggers –
first ITB Berlin YouTube Film Award offers prize
money worth 1,000 euros for the most creative
entry. This year's ITB Bloggers Speed Dating event
will be taking place for the second time. For
exhibitors and bloggers admission to this event on 6
and 7 March is free of charge. The ITB Bloggers
Speed Dating event will not only provide hotels and
tourism destinations such as Australia, Finland,
Florida, Kenya, Jordan and Portugal with a platform
for meeting travel bloggers from around the world,
but a number of federal States such as Lower Saxony
and Thuringia as well. The aim is to show exhibitors
new possibilities for marketing their products and
services.

ITB Berlin 2014 is expected to rake in huge business
for the tourism industry. Game changer or not, the
event will surely give an impetus to the global
tourism sector, which has been marred by political
unrest and economic crunch in recent times.
Every big name from the travel industry
will be there, and you

The 37 annual PATA
is slated to be held from
September 17-19 at
Diamond Island
Convention and
Exhibition Centre, Phnom
initiatives in the
development of Asia-
Pacific's tourism sector
are laudable to say the
least.

TTW
Travel And Tour World: How do you see the
development of tourism have come up till now
And where do you see it in the coming years
Mario Hardy: We have seen over the years the
development of mass tourism while previously
unheard of countries are now on the map and
attracting tourists from around the globe. I see the
development in the future of niche, responsible and
sustainable tourism. Furthermore, there is a rise of
new young travellers in search of adventure and
authentic experiences.
Travel And Tour World: What are your
plans/strategies for PATA Travel Mart 2014
Mario Hardy: We are putting a lot of emphasis at
this year's PATA Travel Mart on micro enterprise,
smaller niche market operators which we believe
larger organisation would find difficult to meet
otherwise. We are also launching our very first
Responsible Tourism Pavilion and inviting
businesses involved in developing sustainable
tourism to join us.
Travel And Tour World: You have chosen Cambodia
for hosting PATA travel Mart 2014. Is there any
special reason behind this
the kindest people. PATA is delighted to bring the
PATA Mart to Cambodia and provide the
opportunity to all, to experience themselves the
beauty of this quickly developing country.
Travel And Tour World: What are the latest trends
of tourism that has made the industry and the
business see a boost
Mario Hardy: What has really given a boost to the
tourism sector is the rise of the middle class in
several Asian countries and also the vast expansion
of air connectivity brought over by the
development of Low Cost Carriers (LCC).
Travel And Tour World: There has been a shift from
agency tour booking to online trade booking. How
much this has affected the business trends of the
tour operators and how it has enhanced the growth
of tourism business
Mario Hardy: The development of OTA's and travel
review sites have helped grow the appetite of
travellers to go beyond the countries and areas that
were previously known to them. There will always
be room for niche tour operators that offer
personalised service and I believe that this an area
where there is still lots of potential for growth.
Mario Hardy: Cambodia's tourism has increased by
8% in 2013 and now accounts for 16% of its GDP.
The country has had a terrible past, but has such a
rich culture, beautiful historical sites and amongst

CSR
analytics can make a huge difference; if you can
understand where your audience spends most of
that we have our very own CSR Engagement to them, you can more effectively target your
and give back; the people around you will respect
you for it, and your travellers will admire you and
Jenny Herbison: Skyscanner's CEO, Gareth Williams 'everywhere' search is one of most popular
With mobile, users now have choices of how they
want to plan their trips. They may use their mobile
devices to find travel inspiration, research their
planning, and then move online to book. Mobile
also gives the option to reach audiences at different
times, in different places and offers an opportunity
to target new audiences, or audiences on the go.
Travel And Tour World: How does the app work
What is the USP of your app over other competitive
apps in the travel market
Jenny Herbison: The Skyscanner Flight App works
just like the website, offering users the most
comprehensive flight search service. Our apps are
available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone,
Windows 8 and Blackberry.
widget can be pinned to the home screen of the
route, on iOS we feature a globe that allows
customers to browse destinations globally and with
Blackberry, users can share and chat about a flight
search with friends and family via BBM.
Travel And Tour World: How have these travel apps
helped the airlines and how else should the airlines
use mobile apps
Jenny Herbison: The Skyscanner app gives online
travel agents and airlines exposure via mobile,
offering them another distribution channel.
Airlines take users on a physical journey and these
users have their mobile device with them at all
times on this journey. Therefore airlines have the
chance to interact with travelers at all touch points
of their trip, giving them opportunity to enhance
their relationship with customers.
Travel And Tour World: However, when you have a
free time which is the best destination that you
want to travel or would want to travel back to
With our mobile app, we utilize each platform as a
way to enhance the Skyscanner user's experience.
For example, on Android and Windows 8 devices a
Jenny Herbison: My favorite destination is Rome;
Italy lives up to my every expectation every time I
visit, and there is something about Rome that keeps
me wanting more. And then of course, New York
City is just a fantastic place and a destination I
always want to go back to.

Tips for
Travellers
Cover Story
hether you are exploring a remote countryside
or a vibrant metropolis, it is important to stay
Wsafe. There have been cases of tourists getting
mugged, robbed at gunpoint and even worse. So, it is better
to follow certain guidelines to avoid untoward incidents. Of
course every country/city has a rule of their own and
adhering to such actually helps to evade unnecessary
trouble. However, taking that extra precaution is always
better. Keeping all these in mind, we have compiled safety
guidelines for travellers. You never know what your favourite
destination has in store for you.
Stay Safe and Enjoy Travelling

Safety Tips for Tourists Visiting a City
Separate your sources of money: You know
how you keep all your bank cards in your
wallet/purse when you're at home. Well, don't do
this while you're travelling. Separate your source of
money. Try to travel with one or at the most two
credit/debit cards and keep the rest in your hotel
room. If you lose your wallet then you will still
enough resource to pay your hotel bills. But if you
keep all your cards in your wallet and you lose it,
then your journey could well be in jeopardy to say
the least.
part of your luggage. But that's old school. These
days, digital is best - that way your documents
won't go missing even if your bags do.
Scan all your major documents: Scan your
travel documents and email them to yourself. It was
traditional to photocopy your passport and visas,
travel insurance etc, and keep them in a separate
Not all locals are friendly: Foreign tourists
getting robbed, harassed or mugged are probably
the most reported cases in the tourism sector. It is
recommended to take necessary precautions before
asking a local to guide you through any area. Don't
trust anyone blindly albeit he/she offering you to
help. Don't eat any food offered by your copassenger
on a train or bus. Also don't get into
trouble in local pubs. Adhere to the rules set by the
city and avoid being too friendly with the locals.
Today most cities are infested with scamsters.
Check with local police and authorities and prevent
yourself from being scammed by local thugs.

Safety Tips for Public Transport
ÜAvoid waiting alone at bus stops and on train
platforms
ÜAvoid sitting in an empty carriage on trains and
the Underground
ÜCheck the time of the last train, bus or tube back
to your accommodation
ÜWalking near railway lines can be very dangerous;
never touch them
ÜAlways use a licensed taxi – check the back of the
taxi to ensure it carries an official license plate
Safety tips at hotels/resorts
ÜAvoid leaving valuables in your room
ÜMake sure your room door is locked when you
leave
ÜAll paid-for accommodation has to have a
working smoke detector and alarm
ÜMake sure you turn off all gas and electrical
appliances (except the refrigerator) when you go
out
ÜWhen you arrive at your accommodation,
familiarise yourself with the fire exits, assembly
points and the location of fire extinguishers
ÜMake sure your accommodation provider
supplies you with information about the procedures
for emergency evacuation
Apart from the aforementioned guidelines, one
should also adhere to the visa policies of a
concerned destination. Remember, it is always not
the fault of the locals. Foreign tourists often indulge
in activities which can be illegal or tend to hurt the
sentiments of the locals. Hence, to avoid untoward
incidents keep a check on the locals as well as
yourselves.
A safe
journey always
translates to a
happy journey.

elgrade (Beograd), the capital of Serbia,
is situated in South-Eastern Europe, on
Bthe Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence
of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the
oldest cities in Europe and is the capital of
Serbian culture, education, science and
is suggested by its architecture, which varies
from Byzantine and Ottoman to neoclassic and
romantic buildings in the older neighborhoods,
and from Art Nouveau to brutalism and neo-
Byzantine design in New Belgrade. The city's
many theaters, museums, monuments and
opera houses boast a deep cultural life while the
certainly a treat for someone who
enjoy fishing. There are plenty of
water surface for boaters, and
excellent opportunities for those
interested in bird watching. With
the forest acreage expanding, as
former farmland reverts to tree
growth, deer, moose and birds
have become more plentiful for
people to enjoy. There is a new
New Zealand

TTW
64
New Zealand is known as Middle Earth for
its Lord of the Rings trilogy. New
Zealand born Peter Jackson filmed the
entire three films in various locations around New
Zealand. This Academy Award winning trilogy of
films (four Oscars for The Fellowship of the Ring,
two Oscars for The Two Towers and 11 Oscars for
The Return of the King - including Best Film and
Best Director awards) showcased the skills of the
cast and crew. One of the big winners however is
New Zealand. It took two years to film the LOTR
trilogy but millions of years to build the sets.
Why
choose
New Zealand
New Zealand, an island nation in the southwestern
Pacific Ocean, is one of the top holiday destinations
in the world. New Zealand boasts a clean green
natural image, stunning scenery, LOTR film setting, adventure,
culture and value for money.
Comparable in size and/or shape to Great Britain, Colorado or
Japan, New Zealand has a population of just over 4 million
making it one of the least crowded countries in the world. New
Zealand is a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation and
relaxation as well as a playground for thrill seekers and
adventurers.

TTW
Natural
Beauty
Made up of two main islands (called the North Island and the
South Island), with several smaller islands, New Zealand is a
place of spectacular landscape, including vast mountain chains,
steaming volcanoes, sweeping coastlines, deeply indented fiords and lush
rainforests.
New Zealanders have a unique and dynamic culture, with European, Maori,
Pacific and Asian influences. The indigenous Maori language name for New
Zealand is Aotearoa, commonly translated as "The Land of the Long White
Cloud".
For Peter Jackson, choosing New Zealand to
shoot his three Tolkien films was logical. It
was not just because he lives there, and that the
capital city Wellington (Wellywood) is home to his
hi-tech digital studios Weta Digital and his film
company Three Foot Six. It was because Jackson
knew what other international film-makers have
been discovering in the last few
years, that "New Zealand is the
When: 17 March
The festivals of colours, Holi is celebrated all across India, specially in the
northern states of the country and is one of the most exuberant festivals of
the Hindus. Rajasthan, West Bengal, Goa and the cities of Delhi, Varanasi,
Mathura, Manipur and Mumbai are famous for having the wildest and
most photogenic celebrations. The night before the Holi, huge bonfires are
lit at major crossroads in towns and cities and effigies of the demon Holika are burned to symbolise the
triumph of good over evil.
Coloured dyes are filled in the syringes, balloons and buckets which are then tossed on people, irrespective
of being friends or foes. However, during the celebration of this joyous event, one must take care of the
bright dyes which at times known to cause skin problems for some. Springtime flowers and sandalwood
are nowadays used for the making of the powders which are less harmful for the participants. “Bhang” (an
intoxicant made of cannabis leaves) is widely and wildly consumed which gives an alternate 'kick' to the
merriment of the festival. Holi is also celebrated in parts of Sri Lanka and Nepal and the style of celebration
remains almost the same.
