8th <strong>Annual</strong> J. Michael Fitzgibbons Golf Classic<br />

Mardi Gras Ball<br />

Hattie’s 10th <strong>Annual</strong> Mardi Gras Ball was held on Saturday, February<br />

5 at <strong>Saratoga</strong> Springs’ Canfield Casino. Thanks to the hard work and<br />

efforts of owners Jasper & Elizabeth Alexander, the staff at Hattie’s<br />

Restaurant, Honorary Chairs Rob Reed and Jeanne Van Patten, the<br />

Mardi Gras Committee, sponsors, auction donors and guests, over<br />

$20,000 (NET) was raised for our Family Support Services.<br />

Chef Jasper prepared New Orleans favorites with other highlights<br />

including complimentary cocktails, music by Soul Session with<br />

Garland Nelson, a themed cake created by The Bread Basket, a huge<br />

centerpiece designed by artists from Creative Endeavors, the Crazy<br />

Photo Booth provided by Heather Bohm-Tallman (a portion of the<br />

print sales benefited the agency) and great silent auction items.<br />

We raised over $18,000 (NET) at the 8th <strong>Annual</strong> J. Michael Fitzgibbons Golf Classic on July 18th. At the Edison Club in<br />

Rexford, 85 golfers enjoyed an 18-hole scramble, BBQ lunch, Awards Ceremony with hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beverages,<br />

goodie bags, polo shirt, door prizes, and a raffle for a chance to add Professional Golfer and Special Guest Briana Vega to<br />

their team. Other raffle prizes were opportunities to play at <strong>Saratoga</strong> National Golf Club and The Edison Club and other oncourse<br />

contests. A portion of the proceeds benefits the J. Michael Fitzgibbons Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Michael<br />

who was a Board Member that passed away unexpectedly in 2005. Briana Vega, pictured right, played on 3 teams during the<br />

event, was available for pictures and signed autographs. A Pro since 2004, Briana qualified for the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open<br />

Championship, tied for 2nd at the 2008 Aurora Health Care Championship and won 4 other tournaments including The 2006<br />

Golf Channel’s Big Break VI: Trump National series.<br />

Firebird Nation of North<br />

America’s 2nd <strong>Annual</strong><br />

All Car & Truck Show<br />

We raised $3,000 (NET) at the Firebird Nation of North<br />

America’s 2nd <strong>Annual</strong> All Car & Truck Show held on<br />

September 17 at the Albany-<strong>Saratoga</strong> Speedway in Malta.<br />

A variety of over 60 vehicles were on display for the family-filled<br />

day which included a DJ, silent auction, food<br />

and beverages. Dash plaques & goodie bags were given<br />

to the vehicles and trophies were presented to the fan<br />

favorites. We are grateful to Tom and Sandy Smith who<br />

organized the event and to the sponsors: Firebird Nation<br />

of North America, Albany/<strong>Saratoga</strong> Speedway, <strong>Saratoga</strong>’s<br />

Community Federal Credit Union, Mangino Pontiac-<br />

Buick, NAPA Auto Parts, Curtis Lumber and Cole’s Spa<br />

Body Works.<br />

The 11th <strong>Annual</strong> Great<br />

Pumpkin Challenge<br />

MVP Health Care presented the 11th <strong>Annual</strong> Great<br />

Pumpkin Challenge in the <strong>Saratoga</strong> Spa State Park on<br />

October 22. Over 1,800 runners, walkers, spectators and<br />

volunteers packed the Columbia Pavilion raising $32,000<br />

(NET)! The 5K winners were Michele Gilbert of Clifton<br />

Park and Josh Merlis of Albany, while the 10K winners were Sereena Coombes<br />

of Queensbury and Mike Roda of Albany. The event included a <strong>Saratoga</strong> County<br />

Animal Shelter Adoption Clinic, Radio Disney, Five Pines Photography (a percentage<br />

of the proceeds benefitted <strong>Saratoga</strong> <strong>Bridges</strong>), home-made refreshments, favorite<br />

pumpkin and costume contests and many raffle prizes. Dan Keating was the highest<br />

pledge winner, raising $560 and winning an Apple IPOD Touch.<br />
