HOSE

MANAGEMENT

SERVICES

A PROVEN PROCESS

FOR RELIABILITY,

PRODUCTIVITY &

BUSINESS VALUE

ON THE RIG

THE NEED FOR COMPREHENSIVE HOSE MANAGEMENT

Recent third-party market research indicated that Flexible Hose Assembly (FHA) products can account for as much as 47 percent of all

downtime in the operation of equipment on a drilling rig. Additionally, the research established that 97 percent of all those surveyed agreed

that Equipment Integrity is a top priority.*

Drawing on a long history of experience and expertise in fluid power engineering and hose technology, Gates Engineering & Services (E&S)

offers clients complete, disciplined, customized Hose Management Services that add significant business value to our line of FHA products

designed for the oil field.

KEY ELEMENTS OF GATES E&S HOSE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

HOSE MANAGEMENT =

RELIABILITY MANAGEMENT

E&S engineers brings a high level of fluid

power expertise and service to the hose

management process:

• Combine superior technologies

• Unparalleled FHA performance

• Global product availability

• High-tech tools geared to the emerging

"digital oil field"

• Optimize asset value

• Avoid unnecessary interruptions to oil

and gas production

• Mitigate excessive costs associated

with catastrophic hose failure

MEET NEW REGULATIONS AND

STANDARDS

Aggressive and comprehensive regulations

and oversight are being initiated to improve

the safety, efficiency and environmental

custodianship of drilling activities worldwide.

• Bureau of Ocean Energy Management,

Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE)

will strengthen U.S. drilling requirements

on the U.S. outer continental shelf for

everything from well design, permitting

and workplace safety to environmental

responsibility and corporate accountability.

• UK Offshore Operators Association

(UKOOA) works to strengthen the

offshore oil and gas industry in the UK,

preparing documentation such as

Flexible Hose Management Guidelines.

Other organizations provide industry

standards, policies, regulations and

recommended practices covering every

aspect of drilling activity and well control

such as API, DNV and ABS.

E&S Hose Management Services assist

clients in all aspects of regulatory

compliance and in the pursuit of best

practices in designing, selecting, installing

and maintaining hose assemblies on all rig

equipment. As part of Hose Management

Services, E&S will certify and/or recertify

all hoses installed on rig equipment.

GATES SENTRY SERVICES PUT YOU ON GUARD AGAINST COSTLY DOWNTIME

SENTRY ID SERVICE

Sentry Services is a suite of web-based

applications that can monitor the performance

and condition of every hose on rig

equipment and warn when potential

failure conditions exist. A quick change

could prevent hours or days of downtime,

personnel injury, equipment damage,

environmental cleanup and more. Sentry

Services can minimize or eliminate

unscheduled downtime:

SENTRY IQ SERVICE electronically

captures and monitors real-time diagnostic

information about the current operating

condition and performance of individual

hose assemblies and alerts users to replace

hoses before a predicted hose failure.

• Monitors hose pressure at high

sample rate to pick up pressure peaks

and troughs.

• Measures system temperatures for

specific hose circuits.

• Uses proprietary algorithms to identify

wear and tear on the hose caused by

each pressure peak and temperature

spike, resulting in a calculation of

remaining hose life.

• Warns of a service or out-of-specification

condition.

• Abrasion, abuse, climate or other

external conditions can also cause hose

failure. Gates recommends regularly

scheduled onsite inspections by our

skilled E&S engineers.

SENTRY ID SERVICE is a unique, Radio

Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging

system that identifies and tracks specific

hose assemblies. High-frequency Sentry

ID tags provide simple, easy field access

to hose assembly data including, location,

hose type, size, length, end fittings,

orientation, assembly notes, test certificates,

BOM – in short, virtually any data deemed

important by the client. A separate tag is

affixed to each hose assembly installed in

the field.

SENTRY IQ 2 SERVICE is designed

specifically for critical hoses. It takes the

strengths of Sentry IQ and adds additional

monitoring functionality to provide feedback

to optimize production. Sentry IQ 2

monitors temperature and pressure while

calculating flow and velocity of drilling

mud. By providing both onsite and remote

oil field diagnostics on drilling rigs and

platforms, Sentry IQ 2 has proven vital to

minimize unscheduled downtime.

Warning

All hose assemblies have a limited life on a given

application. Assuming the correct hose has been

selected, this service life can be adversely affected by

factors including external abuse, excessive pressures,

high temperatures, misapplication, hose specifications

and internal abrasion. Should a hose assembly fail

during use, serious injury or destruction of property

could result from propelled couplings, whipping hose,

high pressure or high velocity discharge, chemical

contact, high temperature materials, explosion or fire.

Contact Gates Product Application at 303-744-5070

or email pa0000@gates.com for assistance and hose

recommendations on specific applications and any

acid-chemical application above +125°F (+52°C).
