RECOGNISED ENGINEERING SIGNATORIES FOR HEAVY VEHICLES<br />
Persons wishing to modify a <strong>heavy</strong> commercial vehicle or trailer must have their<br />
submissions prepared by an Engineering Signatory who is <strong>recognised</strong> by the<br />
Department <strong>for</strong> Transport, Energy & Infrastructure.<br />
A <strong>recognised</strong> <strong>engineering</strong> signatory is a person who is accepted<br />
as qualifi ed to certify modifi cations to <strong>vehicles</strong> over 4.5 tonnes<br />
Gross Vehicle Mass. Such recognition may be general or restricted<br />
as to the fi eld of work.<br />
To practice as a Recognised Engineering Signatory a person must<br />
be suitably qualifi ed and meet the specifi ed period of experience<br />
(usually 6 years), after qualifi cation, in the fi elds of work <strong>for</strong> which<br />
they have been accepted. The minimum qualifi cation required<br />

must be either a Trade Certifi cate or Tradesman Rights in the<br />
relevant fi eld, or a Certifi cate, Diploma or Degree in Mechanical<br />
or Automotive Engineering, depending on the level of expertise<br />
required.<br />
