Welcome to Meredith College!
We are pleased you have decided to join the Meredith College community. During this exciting time
of transition to college life, we want to ensure that you have all the information you need to make
good academic decisions. You will find that Meredith faculty and staff are available and eager to interact
with you, providing support and addressing your individual concerns and questions.
To begin your Meredith journey, take a few moments to read this workbook, respond to the questions
on pages 9, 11-12, and return the worksheets to the Office of Admissions. The workbook includes
information about initial courses recommended for all majors, general education requirements, and
a section for building a course schedule. As you complete the worksheets, you will be making choices
to discuss with your advisor in preparation for your first semester course registration. We have three
opportunities this summer for you to attend a one-day Advising & Registration event during which
you will meet with a faculty advisor, select and register for classes, and meet fellow classmates.
Your Meredith faculty advisor will provide descriptions of various majors and concentrations, guide
you in making course decisions based on your individual interests, and also introduce you to other
faculty who can assist you. The Academic & Career Planning staff is eager to help you discover your
career passions, explore your interests, skills and values, and provide support as you embrace the
academic challenges of being a Meredith student.
We would appreciate your returning the forms to the Office of Admissions by May 7, 2011. And,
we certainly look forward to getting to know you in the coming months.
Warm regards,
Q:
What is the advising process
a:
New students work with a faculty advisor and a student advisor. The student advisor is an upper-class student
selected to serve as an assistant to the faculty advisor and as a peer advisor to incoming students. Throughout
the advising process, students will meet with these advisors to receive guidance regarding academic choices,
to plan a course schedule and to gain support during their first year in college. The advising process begins at
Advising & Registration, on May 21, June 18, or July 9, 2011, where incoming students will meet advisors
and register for fall classes.
