Investment philosophy
Greystone is a risk-conscious manager using a growthstyle
approach to stock selection. The firm believes an
asset’s ability to generate sustainable income creates value
for investors. An active manager, Greystone employs
diversification to reduce risk and enhance returns.
Investment process
Greystone’s disciplined investment process combines
quantitative and qualitative analysis and top-down and
bottom-up perspectives to create focused, diversified
portfolios. Decisions are made collectively by the team,
ensuring consistency of philosophy and process across
the years.
Greystone’s equity approach illustrates the team’s process:
Step 1: Quantitative screening of the entire Canadian and
U.S. equity universe using a proprietary model to
identify companies likely to produce sustainable
earnings growth. Greystone professionals look for
such factors as:
n earnings growth
n earnings revisions
n earnings surprises
n momentum
n yield.
Step 2: Qualitative review of the resulting candidates
to assess management strength, business plans,
market share, products and potential liabilities.
Step 3: Team-based portfolio construction: the full team
participates in decisions to buy or sell a stock.
Step 4: Continuous monitoring with addition or removal
of holdings considered by entire team.
Greystone’s expertise is available through the
following CI funds:
The fund’s objective is to provide modest long-term
