Further aims are to:- further develop the student's intellectual skills of collecting, interpreting and analysing information on diabetes relative to clinical practice. Develop skills related to the Core Dimensions of the Key Skills Framework respond to the key targets identified in UKPDS (1998) and NSF Diabetes (January 2001). enable students to engage with lifelong learning, study and enquiry, and to appreciate the value of education. 9 Intended learning outcomes - the programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills, qualities and other attributes in the following areas: Intended Learning Outcomes summary Knowledge and understanding A1. an increased awareness of the nature and extent of diabetes from a global, national and local perspective. A2. the skills required for the early detection and subsequent management of care applicable to people with diabetes within a practice environment. A5. the significance of research and quality assurance mechanisms in the need to monitor and evaluate change. Teaching, learning and assessment methods used to enable outcomes to be achieved and demonstrated Core knowledge and understanding (1-5) is acquired via lectures, tutorials, seminars, self- reflection and independent study.Teaching methods: lectures seminars group discussions individual tutorials Assessment Knowledge and understanding is assessed via course work, which is in the form of an analytical essay and reflective diary. Cognitive skills (1-5) are promoted via lectures, tutorials, seminars, group discussions, selfreflection and independent study. Learning to apply these thinking skills to caring for people with diabetes is obtained via the reflective diary and essay.
