Charlotte, N.C., to work as an associate<br />

for Banc of America Securities.<br />

After graduation, Mike Zivin (MBA),<br />

(MBA), JoseTraywick (MBA) and<br />

Michelle Alves (MBA) visited China<br />

andThailand. Pete had knives thrown<br />

at him during an acrobatics show in<br />

Shanghai. One night, Mary got lost on<br />

an island inThailand, and they found<br />

her at 10:00 the next morning.The<br />

group enjoyed riding around the wall<br />

in Xi’an, China.They even had custom<br />

tailoring done so they’d look sharp<br />

for their new jobs.<br />

Tepper faculty address hot topics<br />

Tepper faculty members speak to alumni chapters around the U.S.:<br />

ALLAN H. MELTZER, Ph.D., the Allan H. Meltzer university professor of political economy, spoke to a large<br />

group of alumni at a luncheon at The Rivers Club in Pittsburgh on the topic of “Lessons Learned from<br />

the History of the Fed and Future Prospects.” He shared his unique insights on the appointment of Fed<br />

chairman, Ben S. Bernanke.<br />

LESTER LAVE, Ph.D., the Harry B. and James H. Higgins professor of economics and university professor,<br />

spoke to alumni in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia on the issue of rising energy costs and gasoline prices.<br />

As gasoline prices rose to over $3 a gallon, he shared his views with alumni and industry representatives in<br />

the Washington, D.C. area at the Edison Electric Institute. Hosting the event was alumnus MICHAEL<br />

OLDAK, ESQ. (BS/CIT ’69, BS ’69), director, state competitive and regulatory policies at EEI.<br />

Dr. Lave also spoke to alumni in Philadelphia on “Higher and Higher Which Way Will Energy Prices Go” The<br />

event was hosted by <strong>Carnegie</strong> Institute of Technology alumna MARILYN KRAY (BS/CIT ’83), vice president<br />

of project development with Exelon Corporation, at Exelon’s Energy Hall.<br />

PETER BOATWRIGHT, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing at the Tepper School of Business and<br />

author of the new book The Design of Things to Come: How Ordinary People Create Extraordinary Products<br />

(co-authored with Jonathan Cagan and Craig M. Vogel), spoke to alumni on “Managing Creativity to Achieve<br />

Pragmatic Innovation” at the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, Conn. He also spoke to<br />

alumni at The Club at Key Center in downtown Cleveland.<br />
