► 

China Wind farms project 

• The world's first offshore wind farm CDM* project was 

validated by Bureau Veritas in China. We validated the wind 

farm according to UNFCCC** CDM criteria. This clean 

energy project will provide power to households in Shanghai 

and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It is a landmark 

venture as China enters a new stage in its development of 

offshore wind resources.

Two CNAS accreditations received 

• Bureau Veritas received new accreditations from the China 

National Accreditation Service. Our facility in Hong Kong 

tests toys while the Panyu, Guangzhou facility tests softlines 

and footwear. These accreditations strengthen the Group’s 

network of laboratories meeting national and international 

standards.

Verification of Conformity in Yemen 

• Bureau Veritas was exclusively appointed by the Yemen 

authorities to provide Verification of Conformity services, 

following the launch of Yemen’s International Conformity 

Certification Programme. The scope of work covers a wide 

range of consumer and industrial imports. 


► 

Launch of classification rules for naval submarines 

• Bureau Veritas launched the first version of its classification 

rules for naval submarines. We harnessed our expertise in 

writing classification rules for other types of vessels by 

adapting them to the needs of submarines. These new rules 

help protect crews, the environment and the Navy which 

orders and operates the submarine.

Advanced electronics test center opens in the US 

• Bureau Veritas moved its electronics test laboratory into a 

newly built facility that’s three times the size of its previous 

building. The 60,000 square foot test center is the largest 

comparable electronics test laboratory in the eastern United 

States. It is equipped with advanced technology to provide 

testing and certification of virtually all electronics to help our 

clients introduce their products faster and at optimal 

cost.Two CNAS accreditations received.

First anniversary with Textile Consolidation Fund Egypt 

• Bureau Veritas and the Textile Consolidation Fund in Egypt 

celebrated the one year anniversary of their successful 

partnership by holding a client open day. Over 50 

participants attended the event, held in our textile laboratory 

in Alexandria. Representatives from both organizations 

spoke about the year’s achievements and the solutions 

available to local textile exporters.

• Bureau Veritas became a leading provider of mineral testing 

services worldwide. Through acquisitions, our network has 

grown to enable us to provide a full range of mineral 

processing and laboratory testing services to our mining 

clients wherever they are.

► 

Guidelines developed for ship’s fuel cells 

• Bureau Veritas established guidelines to regulate fuel cell 

technology on ships. These pioneering guidelines are the 

first regulations of their kind. Fuel cells generate efficient 

electrical power and are kinder to the environment than more 

traditional power sources. The technology is new and 

expected to grow in future which is why guidelines are 

required now.

Consumer electronics powered 

• Bureau Veritas has developed highly specialized testing and 

certification capabilities for every type of electrical and 

electronic device. Take a look behind the scenes of our LCIE 

laboratory near Paris which tests everyday consumer 

products and industrial machines. As technology progresses, 

so do our testing facilities.

Exports to Algeria assessed 

• Bureau Veritas began carrying out conformity assessment 

and quality control for exports to Algeria, to ensure that all 

exported goods meet Algerian legal requirements. 

Documents and goods are verified and inspected before 

certificates are issued. The scope of work facilitates the 

process of exporting to Algeria.

Environmental certification for Total Gabon 

• Bureau Veritas delivered ISO 14001 to Total Gabon for 

environmental management. The project involved the 

certification of several sites comprising eight new site 

certifications as well as two certification renewals. Now all 

Total Gabon's production and extraction activities are ISO 

14001 certified. This provides a guarantee that the oil 

company's environmental performance commitments are 

being permanently and rigorously monitored.

► 

Green Rating web portal launched 

• Developed in partnership with Europe’s leading property 

companies, Green Rating is an innovative solution to assess 

the environmental performance of existing buildings. Bernard 

Richard-Canavaggio, Bureau Veritas global marketing, talks 

about the Green Rating website launch. Discover why this 

dedicated website was created and how it is an important 

part of the Green Rating offer.

Supersized ships 

• Supersized ships are a growing trend. They offer economies 

of scale for ship owners and in some cases can be better for 

the environment than smaller ships. However, mega ships 

present safety risks linked to their size. Bureau Veritas is 

addressing these issues by developing specific technology 

and expertise so that ultra large ships can be as safe as their 

smaller counterparts.

Training delivered at Nestlé Waters 

• Bureau Veritas helped to deliver a comprehensive new 

training program at Nestlé Waters North America. More than 

100 Nestlé employees were trained over seven weeks. The 

training focused on environmental, health & safety and food 

safety competencies, as part of ISO 22000 for food safety 

management systems.

World Environment Day celebrated 

• Bureau Veritas demonstrated its commitment to the 

environment by celebrating the United Nations World 

Environment Day on June 5, 2009 with 40 innovative 

projects. Offices and teams across the global network 

developed environmental initiatives based on local needs 

and cultures. An internal panel selected the three best 

projects, with each winning an award.

► 

Iron and steel verified for Indonesia 

• The Group was selected to perform technical verification on 

iron and steel products being shipped to Indonesia from all 

countries excluding China, Japan, Korea and Singapore. 

Indonesian legal requirements state that the technical 

verification of these products must take place in the 

countries of export. The objective is to ensure that products 

comply with standards that protect the consumer and the 

environment while encouraging fair domestic trade 

conditions.

Sponsorship announced with AAFA 

• Bureau Veritas became an Elite Sponsor of the American 

Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), the national trade 

association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn 

products companies and suppliers. The Group’s expertise 

and reputation in quality assurance will help advance AAFA 

member’s competitiveness, productivity and profitability. 

Assisting AAFA members in meeting their regulatory 

obligations is just one way this will be achieved.

System Pro Development acquired in Hong Kong 

• System Pro Development Hong Kong Limited is an 

inspection and testing company specializing in the electrical 

& electronic retail market for German clients. This acquisition 

notably broadens our capabilities in electrical and chemical 

safety testing, and supplier inspection, for the German retail 

market in consumer electronics and household appliances.

Data verified for Network Rail and Eurostar 

• Both Network Rail and Eurostar have firm commitments 

linked to corporate responsibility and the environment. 

Bureau Veritas provided independent verification of 

sustainability data for the two rail companies, enabling them 

to guarantee to customers that their responsible travel 

policies are based in fact. Which in turn strengthens their 

corporate reputation.

First Paper by Nature® eco-label awarded 

• Bureau Veritas became the only organization authorized to 

deliver Paper by Nature®, the only pan-European eco-label 

for converted paper products such as envelopes, notebooks 

and agendas. Oxford notebooks were the first paper 

products to be Paper by Nature certified. The goal is to limit 

the impact on the environment of the paper converting 

process.

Mobility made easier at Carrefour 

• Bureau Veritas and Carrefour began a project to give 

disabled people easier access to all Carrefour’s stores in 

France. New anti-discrimination laws in France state that all 

public places such as restaurants and shops must provide 

easy access for disabled people by 2015. Shopping at 

Carrefour will soon become a more comfortable experience 

for anyone with a disability or reduced mobility.

Ship owners assisted with new recycling rules 

• Bureau Veritas developed and provided a full range of 

services to help its clients comply with the Convention for the 

Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. This convention 

aims at ensuring that the ship recycling process does not 

pose any risk to health and safety or to the environment. The 

new recycling requirements address the growing concerns 

about social accountability in the ship recycling industry.

Clients guided through complexities of CPSIA 

• Bureau Veritas guided clients through the maze that is the 

Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This 

US law aims to increase consumer safety with more 

stringent or new requirements for consumer goods. It mainly 

covers children’s products such as toys but does include 

some adult products including home textiles. As the 

legislation became clarified and documented, we kept clients 

up to date on their obligations thus helping them to comply 

with the CPSIA and protect their brand. 


► World’s first accredited inspection body under ISO 17020 

• Bureau Veritas was the only company in the world to be 

accredited for all its global pre-shipment inspection and 

verification of conformity activities under ISO 17020, the 

internationally recognized standard for inspection bodies. 

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service issued the 

accreditation following a comprehensive audit.

Site study launched for Jordan's first nuclear power plant 

• Bureau Veritas, as part of a three company coalition, began 

assessing the health, safety and security aspects of the 

proposed site for Jordan’s first nuclear power plant. The site 

study will last two years and construction is due to start in 

2012. 


► 

Certification body accreditation for Toy Safety Program 

• Bureau Veritas was accredited by the American National 

Standards Institution as part of the Toy Industry 

Association’s Toy Safety Certification Program. The Group 

will be a full service provider for the program, including 

testing, hazard assessment, auditing and as a certification 

body. The program will help ensure the safety of children's 

toys produced anywhere in the world and sold in the United 

States.

Advising on changes in aeronautics 

• AS/EN/JISQ 9100 are the internationally recognized quality 

system standards for the aeronautics industry. The 

standards are being updated. Bureau Veritas began advising 

clients on the standards’ evolution and put tools at their 

disposal, such as a calendar of implementation with 

deadlines for compliance. The updated rules focus on 

improved process efficiency and customer satisfaction. 


► 

Data integrity certified for Colombian telecoms firm 

• Bureau Veritas has awarded ISO 27001 certification for 

information security management to UNE EPM 

Telecommunications. The company is the first Colombian 

telecommunications firm to receive this certification, and the 

fourth mobile service provider in Colombia. The certification 

relates to UNE EPM’s data center services and is about 

assuring secure data management.

CNPC chooses Hydrostar and Ariane 

• China's largest oil and gas supplier, the China National 

Petroleum Corporation, chose Bureau Veritas software 

HydroSTAR and ARIANE, to support the development of its 

Research Center as part of a new offshore engineering 

laboratory. 


► 

Exclusive appointment as Pre-Shipment Inspection Agency 

to Somalia 

• Bureau Veritas was selected by the government of Somalia 

to carry out a pre-shipment inspection program on all 

products imported into Somalia. The pre-shipment inspection 

services are intended to facilitate international trade and to 

contribute to the economic development of the country.

Bureau Veritas accredited by CACSC of The Philippines 

• Bureau Veritas was accredited by the Committee for 

Accreditation of Cargo Surveying Companies of The 

Philippines. We will provide cargo survey services for bulk 

products imported to the Philippines, with the aim of easing 

import formalities. 


► 

Sponsorship of eco-trip across the Mediterranean 

• Bureau Veritas is among the project sponsors for the Zero 

CO2 expedition which sets sail in 2010. The Zero CO2 is a 

yacht powered by clean energy. The voyage is a scientific 

research trip that will further understanding about man-made 

pollution at sea and show how cleaner energy can provide 

solutions.

Over 1000 Tata Motors dealerships to be certified 

• Bureau Veritas signed a contract to certify more than 1000 

Tata Motors dealerships to ISO 9001. The implementation of 

a Quality Management System at all their dealerships is part 

of Tata Motors' QHSE global strategy. The goal is to deploy 

standardized systems and processes through the ISO 

certification process.

• Bureau Veritas was selected by the government of Somalia 

to carry out a pre-shipment inspection program on all 

products imported into Somalia. The pre-shipment inspection

Large contract with Aggregate Industries 

• Bureau Veritas secured a large contract with Aggregate 

Industries to provide engineering inspection and fixed 

electrical testing for all their UK sites. Despite competition 

from several organizations, a must-win strategy led to the 

contract win.
