Tynan SOPRANO<br />
Ailish Tynan was born in Mullingar, Ireland,<br />
and studied at Trinity College and the Royal<br />
Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and the<br />
Guildhall School of Music and Drama,<br />
London. In 2003 Ailish represented Ireland<br />
in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World<br />
Competition, winning the BBC Singer of the<br />
World <strong>Rosenblatt</strong> Recital Prize. Other awards<br />
include the Maggie Teyte Competition,<br />
Miriam Licette Award and the RTE<br />
Millennium Singer of the Future.<br />
Whilst a member of the former Vilar Young<br />
Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House,<br />
Covent Garden, Ailish performed the roles of<br />
Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, First Niece in<br />
Peter Grimes, Xenia in Boris Godunov and<br />
Second Wood Nymph in Rusalka. Roles<br />
elsewhere include Valencienne in The Merry<br />
Widow and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro<br />
for Welsh National Opera, Euridice in Orfeo<br />
and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte for Opera<br />
Ireland, Flora in The Knot Garden with the<br />
BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir<br />
Andrew Davis, Aenchen in Der Freischütz at<br />
the Edinburgh International Festival<br />
conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and<br />
Marzelline in Fidelio with the National<br />
Symphony Orchestra of Ireland in Dublin.<br />
In the 2006/7 season Ailish made her US<br />
debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni for the<br />
Seattle Opera and returned to the Royal<br />
Opera House, Covent Garden to perform the<br />
role of Marzelline in Fidelio.<br />
Highlights on the concert platform include a<br />
televised <strong>programme</strong> of music by Mozart<br />
with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra<br />
conducted by Sir Roger Norrington at the<br />
2006 BBC Proms, Carmina Burana with the<br />
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by<br />
Daniel Gatti, Barber’s Knoxville Summer of<br />
1915 with the BBC Scottish Symphony<br />
Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No 4 with<br />
the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Martyn<br />
Brabbins at the Cheltenham Music Festival,<br />
Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne with<br />
the Ulster Orchestra and Ravel’s<br />
Scheherazade with the BBC Philharmonic<br />
Orchestra.<br />
As a recitalist, Ailish has collaborated with<br />
distinguished accompanists including<br />
Malcolm Martineau, Graham Johnston, Julius<br />
Drake, Iain Burnside and Barry Douglas,<br />
giving recitals at the Edinburgh International<br />
Festival, City of London Festival,<br />
Cheltenham Music Festival, West Cork Music<br />
Festival, Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith<br />
Square, London.<br />
In the 2006/7 season Ailish joined the Nash<br />
Ensemble on a concert tour of Sweden and<br />
gave recitals in Tokyo, Barcelona, Valloires<br />
Festival, France and Bryn Terfel’s Faenol<br />
Festival.<br />
As a former BBC New Generation Artist,<br />
Ailish is a regular contributor on BBC Radio<br />
3. Recent recordings include Schubert’s<br />
Shepherd on the Rock on the Wigmore Hall Live<br />
label, Irish Songs by Herbert Hughes and Songs<br />
of Judith Weir both on the Signum Classics<br />
label.<br />
This season’s highlights include her European<br />
debut as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier for the<br />
Royal Swedish Opera, Woodbird in Siegfried<br />
for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden<br />
and recitals at the Wigmore Hall, London,<br />
Getty Museum, Los Angeles, National<br />
Gallery Dublin, St John’s Smith Square,<br />
London, a concert tour with the Irish<br />
Chamber Orchestra and a series of Viennese<br />
concerts with Bournemouth Symphony<br />
orchestra.<br />
Future plans include Héro in Béatrice et<br />
Bénédict for Houston Grand Opera and a<br />
series of concerts with Camerata Pacifica,<br />
Santa Barbara.<br />

Iain Burnside enjoys a unique reputation as pianist and broadcaster, forged through his<br />
commitment to the song repertoire and his collaborations with leading international singers.<br />
In recent seasons such artists have included Galina Gorchakova, Lisa Milne, Rebecca Evans, Joan<br />
Rodgers, Susan Gritton, Yvonne Kenny, Susan Bickley, John Mark Ainsley, Mark Padmore and<br />
Andrew Kennedy, Roderick Williams, Christopher Maltman and Bryn Terfel.<br />
His recording work shows Iain’s passion for British music. For Signum he has recorded Tippett with<br />
John Mark Ainsley, Judith Weir with Ailish Tynan, Susan Bickley and Andrew Kennedy, and FG<br />
Scott with Lisa Milne and Roderick Williams. Forthcoming Signum releases included Herbert Hughes<br />
with Ailish Tynan, Britten with Susan Gritton and Mark Padmore and Korngold with Sarah Connolly<br />
and Christopher Maltman.<br />
Naxos CDs include the complete songs of Gerald Finzi with John Mark Ainsley and Roderick<br />
Williams, together with Vaughan Williams and William Alwyn. More Vaughan Williams will be<br />
released on the new Albion label. Black Box recordings feature Debussy, Schoenberg and an acclaimed<br />
disc of Copland with the late Susan Chilcott.<br />
Jack Liebeck was born in 1980 in London. From 1989-1999 he attended the Purcell School of<br />
Music and then the RAM, where he studied with Professor Mateja Marinkovic, graduating in 2003.<br />
Performing concertos and recitals since the age of eleven, Jack’s appearances have taken him around<br />
the world. Since making his concerto debut with the Hallé Orchestra, he has performed with many<br />
orchestras of international repute including the London Philharmonic and has appeared under the<br />
baton of several renowned conductors including Sir Neville Marriner. In 2002 Jack made his<br />
acclaimed London recital debut in a sold-out Wigmore Hall.<br />
Last season’s appearances included concertos with the Philharmonia under Alexander Lazarev, the<br />
Moscow State Symphony with Pavel Kogan, the RSNO with Garry Walker and the Royal Liverpool<br />
Philharmonic with Petrenko. In 2008, Jack will perform the Magnus Lindberg concerto with both the<br />
Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra in Spain, the Mendelssohn<br />
Concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony and Douglas Boyd, will give recitals in Liverpool and at<br />
the Bath International Festival and return to the Australian Chamber Music Festival.<br />
Sally Pendlebury attended the Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and then went on to study<br />
at the Guildhall School of Music and whilst there, won the Capital Radio Prize and was also a prize<br />
winner in the Shell/LSO competition.<br />
She is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and has performed and recorded with many of<br />
the great soloists and conductors of today. She was a founder member of the Vellinger String Quartet<br />
who won The London International String Quartet Competition in 1994 and with them, toured<br />
regularly throughout Europe, Japan and the USA. The quartet performed at many festivals such as<br />
Mostly Mozart at the Lincoln Centre, Edinburgh, Bath, Cheltenham, Klangboden in Vienna and<br />
Mondsee. She is a regular participant in chamber music festivals in Britain Europe and the USA.<br />
Later this year she will be performing in Chamber Music series in New York, San Francisco and Graz.<br />
Sally plays guest principal cello with many British Orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, English<br />
Chamber Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra<br />
and the Philharmonia Orchestra.<br />
