Multifunction Key Operation, Multi-Jog Control &
Blinking Kenwood Triangle
Easy and intuitive Multifunction Key operation in FP-MASK models simplifies the control
of the diverse functions loaded in our higher end models. Names of functions available
in the active mode are shown at the bottom of the display, each corresponding to a key
on the panel below for "at-a-glance" identification and instant access of functions. Once
you are in a function mode, setting is easy with the Multi-Jog Control. The result is
greater control with fewer keys, a spacious layout and improved ease of use. To keep you
aware of the current status, the KENWOOD triangle on the front panel blinks when you
are setting up or mute is active.
Security Measures
FP-MASK's improved triple layer of security protects your investment. Simply "mask" the
unit with the motorized folding panel, hiding your head unit from view. For extra peace of
mind, remove and take the slim and light detachable panel with you when you leave the
car. If the panel is detached, the head unit is electronically locked and can be activated
only if the original panel with the matching MASK KEY code is reattached.

Built-in DSP
KENWOOD has integrated the power of DSP sound tuning in a 1-DIN
chassis. Our top-end FP-MASK models now boast a new and powerful
chip set featuring Dolby Prologic II, the SRS WOW digital processor and
Digital E’s, combining a 3 band parametric graphic equalizer, crossover
and digital time alignment.
Easy & Pro Audio Set Up Modes
FP-MASK models with built-in DSP now offer two Audio setting modes:
"Easy Mode" for simple settings using our Sound Management System
of basic Cabin and Speaker Select presets, and "Pro Mode" that lets you
make detailed adjustments of EQ, Crossover and Digital Time
Alignment to fine tune your system for ideal sound ambience.
SRS WOW
Not only CDs but also MP3 and other compressed music sound better
with the new SRS WOW technology. Based on HRTF (Head Related
Transfer Function) theory, this new audio enhancement technology
realizes natural 3-dimensional acoustics by the optimization and convergence
of three technologies: SRS 3D for an impressive stereo
effect, TruBass for deep rich bass from any speaker system, and
FOCUS for optimal
electronic repositioning
of a sound image.
Amplifier Control System
Status display, parametric EQ control and other powerful features of our
new Amp Control System are available in our '04 lineup of PS amplifiers
when combined with head unit models with the motorized slide mechanism
and FP-MASK.
MOSFET, N.I.I. Circuit, Focus GND
High-density circuit boards in the limited installation space of a car audio
head unit increase the possibility of mutual interference of the closely
mounted circuits, resulting in undesirable noise. Kenwood counters with
Non-Interference Isolation (N.I.I.) circuit design for total isolation of
circuit blocks and Focus GND that employs a single-point concentrated
grounding effect to reduce internal interference between channels.
Employment of a MOS-FET device also contributes to improved
channel separation, eliminating interference.
OEM Wired Remote &
RCA AUX Input
Most KENWOOD CD receivers are now compatible with Wired Remote
for operation of the unit from an original factory installed steering wheel
remote controller (optional leads required.) KDC-W6527 and higherend
models also have an RCA AUX input in the rear of the unit, enabling
the connection of various common car DVD players and portable HDD,
enabling the enjoyment of high quality sound reproduction from these
and other audio sources from your in-car entertainment system.

Rotary Volume Control Knob (SLIDE with ATT)
New Motorized Slide Mechanism
Developed as an add-on feature to the standard flip-down model, the new motorized slide mechanism
provides smooth motorized adjustment of the positioning angle for optimum viewing and a detachable
faceplate for enhanced security.
With the exception of the TDF series (models with the CD loading/ejection slot always visible), all models
with Flip Down or a more advanced mechanism now come with the easy-grip rotary volume control for
ease of operation. Among them, models with the new motorized Slide Down mechanism have a knob that
can be pressed for simple and fast ON/OFF control of Attenuator. (quick muting of sound.)
WMA / MP3
Combined with CD-R/RW playability, Kenwood's expanded selection of
CD Receivers with WMA/MP3 format compatibility lets you enjoy
gigantic compilations of music with superb sound quality. Extract music
data from CDs and compress them into MP3music files as little as
1/10th their original size, or try the new WMA format for near CD
quality with a further 50% reduction. You can also purchase and
download ready-to-burn files from music distribution sites. Imagine! You
can burn the equivalent of 20 CDs of music on a single CD-R/RW and
create giant custom collections for your in-car audio enjoyment.
New Mono Colour LCD with
Negative Display
The addition of pigment, reduced shadow effect and improved contrast
all add up to superb visibility for an instant grasp of operation status and
easy control. The "negative" display of bright graphics against the dark
background also lends an air of cool sophistication normally found only
in higher end products.

Every new generation of KENWOOD receivers introduces new excitement and innovation to in-car entertainment. FP MASK
with its unique design and new sliding mechanism is no exception. The motorized front operation panel smoothly slides down,
revealing the wide display while keeping a full panel available for controls. In other words, this 1-DIN receiver can provide
almost 2-DIN of space for display and controls in its "unfolded" state. KENWOOD takes advantage of this luxury of space to
use larger buttons in the lower control panel section, making operation easier. Also the angle of the control panel can be
adjusted to one of four positions with the touch of a button for optimal viewing and
operation. The horizontal positioning of the upper display panel is also adjustable,
offering 3 slide settings. Display visibility is further enhanced by 8 levels of brightness
for a clean, clear image. As the name indicates, FP MASK incorporates KENWOOD's
signature MASK security functions. When power is turned off, the face automatically
closes, hiding the system behind an elegant black panel and away from the eyes of
thieves, and for absolute security, the panel is detachable. Combining an elegant ballet
of mechanics with cutting-edge electronics, FP MASK sets a new standard in
ease of use.

MD (MiniDisc) employs a data compression
system called ATRAC (Adaptive
Transform Acoustic Coding) that enables
compression of more than 680 MB data
(equivalent to the capacity of a CD) into
about 140 MB without discernible loss of
listening quality. For users, this means
high-quality digital recording and reproduction
in a small, easy-to-handle media.
Featuring a powerful error correction system
and a 10-second buffer memory, MD players perform superbly
even in environments subject to vibrations, making them especially suited
