Mustang Matters – Nov. 5, 2012 Spring Station Middle School Spring Hill, TN 37174 Mission Statement -- Spring Station exists to educate, engage, and nurture each student through meaningful experiences, positive relationships, and character development Principal’s Corner It is hard to believe that time has flown by so quickly and we are moving into the holiday season. Regarding time, all teachers are expected to begin class on time; therefore, they are not to be “tardy” starting instruction for your children. Because young eyes are watching, we are trying to model all aspects of our PBIS Matrix and being on time is a life skills trait we all have to learn. In return, we need students to be on time to school. Classroom doors are shut at 7:20. This means if students are not in their seat at 7:20, they are sent to the office where they sign in as tardy. Five tardies equal an afterschool detention for a student and you will be notified by letter. Sometimes parents believe their child is on time if the child is in the building. Again, this is only if he or she is in first period on time. If a child is rummaging through a locker and has not reported to class, he or she is tardy. Please reinforce our efforts to help with teaching timeliness by making sure your child understands the importance of being on time to school and moving through the day in a timely manner. Sincerely, Paula Pulliam Principal, Spring Station Middle School FYI Rock-around-the-clock fun this weekend Tickets will be presold starting Monday for weekend performances of “The Mighty Armadillos,” a 1950s revenge-of-the-chess-nerds play featuring 32 of our finest thespians. No tickets will be sold at the door for Friday’s 7 p.m. performance or Saturday’s 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students K-12. Limited seating is available, so get your tickets early! Come see what happens when the wimpy chess club members take on the football in-crowd and the local ruffians; hold on to your hula hoops! In this ‘50s malt shop setting, super nerd Julius Caesar Abercrombie, captain of the Mighty Armadillo Chess Club, is accidentally hypnotized, and upon a particular signal, thinks he is the star quarterback of the high school football team. The quiet Armadillos show how mighty they are both on and off the playing field. Move 2 Stand permission forms due Wednesday 7 th graders will attend a special program on teen social pressures, Move 2 Stand, on Thursday and Friday; permission forms must be returned by Wednesday. The program is designed to “address some of the common issues that many schools experience through bullying, harassment, racism, cliques, stereotyping and other social pressures that teens face today,” according to school counselors. “Students will examine attitudes and beliefs to help better understand how bullying affects school climate and what to do about it.” 1
