In 2011 we helped over 3,300 beneficiaries, by providing
services aimed at active rehabilitation, medical rehabilitation, as
well as wheelchairs and other adapted equipment. We have also
offered assistance through counseling and support in finding a
job.
In September, we opened Motivation Medical Rehabilitation
Clinic in Bucharest. The Clinic was financed by the Romanian
Commercial Bank through a pilot program designed for funding
social enterprises.
For the second time since its establishment, Motivation proposed
th
a mountain adventure for wheelchair users. On August 5 , 12
people in wheelchairs, along with 28 colleagues from Motivation,
successfully climbed the mountains in the Buila Vanturarita area,
which is the smallest, however the most spectacular national
park in the country.
In November, in partnership with ActiveWatch - Media Monitoring
Agency and the Romanian National Television, as well as under
the high patronage of the European Union's Delegation in
Romania, we organized the second edition of the People with
Disabilities' Gala. The theme of the edition was ''Education
without barriers'', and was preceded by a two- month media
campaign supported by over 20 media partners.
Also in November, several people with disabilities were selected
and recruited in order to work at the Motivation greenhouse in
Clinceni, within a project developed together with the Social

Security and Child Protection Department of the 1 District in
Bucharest. Thus, six teenagers with disabilities transferred from
placement centers to homes built and run by Motivation- Anca,
Nicoleta, Edi, Mihaela, Florin M and Florin B. - were employed in
the greenhouse starting December.
In 2012 we plan to organize the third edition of the Gala and to
develop more social enterprises!

IMPACT Program

In June, four teenagers with developmental disabilities who
have been in the care of Motivation, Cristina, Cristian, Laurentiu
and Marian, moved in with Marta (Cristina's foster parent), and
with Dana and Stelian Matreata, who are wheelchair users.
Now they all live in the house built by Habitat for Romania
with funding from Vodafone Romania Foundation. Thus,
Cristian and Cristina, two of the three brothers with disabilities
transferred from the Tancabesti placement center, today live
under the same roof.
Impact
In June, the stories of nine children who are in the care of
Motivation were presented in the UNICEF campaign, run in
partnership with the Romanian National Television. The
campaign's name was “Together for every child”, and it was
presented in three special editions of a television show named
''Once in a lifetime''.
In July, Ancuta, Edi and Marian won the golden medal in the
bocce contest at the Special Olympics World Summer
Games in Greece. It was also in summer when the Day
Center's program underwent a radical transformation. The
Center moved to the house in Buda, where our children and
teenagers with disabilities have the opportunity to have lunch
together, while some of them can be even involved in preparing
it. Since we know the benefits of being involved in daily
activities, together we have learned to recycle the waste paper
resulted from the activities of all Motivation offices. Once
recycled, this paper is used by children and teenagers with
disabilities to make greetings cards, packaging products, and
unique bookmarks. Even young people with severe disabilities,
as Aurel, are involved in this process by tearing the paper, for
instance.

cleaned the warehouse. And my friends Marian and Laurentiu helped me. We really like to be together and to work as adults do. We clean
the yard and arrange things in the green house. Mr. Ion taught me to dig and to use the rake. I like to take care of the flowers, to wet them.''

Wheelchairs

In 2011, with the support of the 11 regional teams, we helped
almost 2000 children and adults with mobility disabilities
who needed a wheelchair. Our teams made the assessment
and prescription of adapted wheelchairs for all these people.
The cost for 927 of the distributed mobility equipments was
covered by the public health insurance agencies. The rest were
given as donations. Thus, 1,021 orthopedic and WorldMade
wheelchairs were distributed for free; the donations are funded
by the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints.
With the support of Vodafone Romania Foundation, 57 children
with mobility disabilities benefited from mobility equipments and
personalized wheelchairs. This project, developed in
partnership with Vodafone Foundation, meets the challenges
faced by children with severe disabilities when obtaining
wheelchairs adapted for their needs, and it also provides
individual training for the use of such equipment.
"I'm in the tenth grade, I go to the gym, in the park, and I have
many other activities I will not count here. It is very difficult to
sit for hours in a wheelchair and not feel comfortable. The
wheelchair I received left me speechless. I
cannot believe even now its cushion, which is super, super
comfortable. And not only the cushion, but the whole
wheelchair provides full freedom of
movement that helps me a lot every
day. Thank you for existing and for taking
it to me , thanks to these wheelchairs
that bring some sunshine in the lives of

In 2011, the Peer Group Training (PGT) activity was supported
through three major projects: “Network for Inclusion” and “The
Development of Social Economy for People with Physical
disabilities” (“Mobile Teams”), financed by the European Social
Fund (ESF), and “Wheels of Change”, financed by USAID.
The wheelchair user support network consists of 11 regional
teams that provide support services including assessment,
positioning, prescription, provision and adaptation of
appropriate mobility equipment and peer group training for
independent living.
In total, 988 people with disabilities were involved in
training activities activities, along with family members,
personal assistants and specialists. Active recovery services
for independent living, offered by our regional teams, consisted
in:
- PG independent living seminars for 600 people with
disabilities;
- Two - week active rehabilitation training programs for 87
people with disabilities;
- One - week active rehabilitation camps for 71 people with
disabilities;
- Awareness raising seminars for 230 people with disabilities.
''A few months after I got home I received, quite skeptical, a visit
from Motivation team in Prahova (…) I went to the first seminar
and there I learned to make the first maneuvers with the
weelchair that previously I was only watching on the internet
sighing. It's true, they changed my wheelchair with one adapted
to my needs. Then, I participated in an active rehabilitation
camp, where I learned to climb and descend ramps, to spin on
two wheels, my degree of independence already approaching
100%.( … ) I had to go out every day and more, to try to
convince other people experiencing similar problems to do the

Medical Rehabilitation

In January 2011, our medical activity moved from Panduri
Neuro- motor Rehabilitation Center to the Physiotherapy
and Medical Rehabilitation Center in one of the buildings of
the National University of Physical Education and Sports in
Bucharest. Here, 106 people with disabilities were provided
free medical rehabilitation services.
Due to the fact that our specialists have extensive experience in
working with people with disabilities and good results in difficult
cases, we thought to make our activity in this field sustainable,
in order to provide free services to people with disabilities and
low income. Thus, in late August 2011, we opened the
Motivation Medical Rehabilitation Clinic.
,,A Nobel idea became a business in Romania'' - this is the way
the media presented Motivation Medical Rehabilitation Clinic,
whose opening was announced in a press conference
organized together with Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) on
August 24th . The clinic is the first social enterprise financed by
a BCR interest - free loan. Thus, starting from the third year of
activity and using revenues coming from people who can afford
to pay, we will provide free rehabilitation services for people
with disabilities and low income.
Motivation Rehabilitation Clinic offers quality services
adapted to the needs of each patient: medical consultation,
physiotherapy, electrotherapy and massage, prescribed by a
doctor, specialist in rehabilitation. Also, in collaboration with
Psihoarmonie Center, our clinic offers a wide range of
psychological services. Motivation Clinic helps families during
their most important moments - when they expect a child -
through courses for couples aimed at preparation for childbirth,
childcare and on how to provide first aid to children.

Employment

2011 was one of the most successful years for the employment
team of Motivation Romania Foundation. Within this program,
our colleagues counseled 1079 people with disabilities on how
to find a job, while 245 were employed on the labor market.
In 2011, we successfully managed to complete two projects
financed by the European Social Fund.
The first one is “START for equal opportunities for persons
with disabilities on the labor market”, which facilitated
access of people with disabilities to the labor market in North -
West, North- East and South - West of Romania.
The second project completed in 2011 is ''Inclusion of people
with disabilities on the labor market'', implemented by
ActiveWatch – Media Monitoring Agency in partnership with
Motivation Romania Foundation and other organizations. The
project's goal was to increase the access of people with
disabilities to mainstream employment, and it was within this
project that the first edition of the Disability Gala was organized.
''Jenny, a 24 - year-old girl from Bucharest, graduated from
the Dental Technique Faculty, but failed to find a job. Jenny
has hearing and speech difficulties, which seemed to be
an insurmountable barrier for many employers. She told
our colleagues that she would like to improve her
computer skills and Motivation helped her attend a
computer course. In April, Jenny found a job
as computer operator with the ''Bride's Guide"
Magazine, where she is a loved and valued
colleague.

Social enterprise

Decorative objects made by young people with disabilities
living in Motivation group homes
In our occupational therapy workshop, teenagers with
disabilities living in Motivation group homes have been making
decorative products using clay and Fimo, as well as scented
candles. In 2011, we opened a new workshop where our young
people with developmental disabilities make objects from
recycled paper. These products have been displayed at various
exhibitions at: Oracle, bauMax, Acvatot, Lindab, Mega Image
and in other fairs. The donations were used for sustaining the
IMPACT program.
Motivation green houses
The young people with disabilities living in our homes help
growing vegetables in the Motivation greenhouses from
Clinceni. The products of their work are used daily for cooking
in the group homes and some of them are sold in the
community. The money is used to support the IMPACT
program.
Motivation2Print
The income made by Motivation printing office in 2011
amounted to 29,600 lei. The products delivered by the printing
office include business cards, brochures, posters and
calendars.
''I like the occupational therapy workshop. Ramona (our
occupational therapist) taught me many things: how to paint, to
give shape, to varnish objects in plaster, clay and FIMO. I paint
jewelry boxes, photo frames and wooden trays. I also help my
colleagues, Edi, Mihaela, Ancuţa paint the first layer and I paint the
rest very carefully. For Christmas, I worked a lot with volunteers. I
love it when they visit us. I make new friends with whom I have fun.
I had an amazingly good time with the kids. They did not know how

Adapted Sport

The Motivation swimming team attended again the 24 Hours
Swimming Marathon in Brasov, on May 7th and 8th, 2011.
Six of the swimmers in the Motivation team are wheelchair
users.
On June 7th, Motivation Romania Foundation organized, at
Pescariu Sports & Spa Club, the Second edition of the
Vodafone - Motivation Swimming Event. Each team included
Vodafone and Motivation employees, as well as a swimmer with
developmental disabilities.
In 2011, the Motivation wheelchair basketball team attended
several demonstrations. On October 22nd , with the support of
the European Union’s Delegation in Bucharest, our team
played against some of the most famous bloggers in Romania,
at the Romanian Basketball Federation.
During 2011, the Motivation basketball team attended several
demonstrations of wheelchair basketball. One of the most
important actions of this kind took place on October 22nd, when
the Motivation team played with the most famous bloggers in
Romania, at the Romanian Basketball Federation at Lia
Manoliu Complex. The event was held with the support of the
European Union's Delegation in Bucharest.
Also in October, Motivation Romania organized the first flying
lesson for people in wheelchairs. Thus, at the Sima-Tariceni
Airfield, 10 wheelchair users have grown "wings" with the help
of two airplanes, an Apollo Fox and a Girocopter.
